Chapter 659: Nightmare Inheritance
"Finally taking action, huh..."
In the Distant Realm, Ash and the others looked at the blood-red lightning wearing down the golden bubbles in the distance. Although surprised, they were not unexpected.
They had long anticipated this scene.
Among the four inheritances, except for the Lake Light Inheritance which may be less valuable and thus overlooked by the Divine Lords, the Eternal City from the Time Heritage, the Fractured Dream Kingdom of the Ghost Prophet, and the Heavenly Kingdom of Thousand Wishes, each could tug at the heartstrings of the Divine Lords.
What, you say the Divine Lords wouldn't compete for inheritances with mere mages? After all, they're Divine Lords and should possess the demeanor of the strong, right?
It's understandable for ordinary people to think this way, but Ash and his friends, being Holy Sanctuary Mages themselves, have already given up on such naive thoughts—they themselves lack the demeanor of the strong!
For the sake of so-called demeanor, to give up important benefits they could seize?
If Ash dared to do such a thing, the Sword Maiden would certainly knock his brains out.
As the saying goes, it's harder to stir interests than to stir souls. If there appears a benefit that truly moves the Divine Lords, they would definitely intervene! The Six Nations War on the Time Continent has proven that the Divine Lords have both the capability and the willingness to interfere in the lower Void Realm.
Thinking darker, perhaps the Lake Light Angel, King of Time, Ghost Prophet, and Thousand Wishes Visionary chose to place their inheritances in the lower Void Realm precisely to avoid them being plundered by the Divine Lords?
Ash has vaguely realized that while the Divine Lords are powerful individuals who wield immense strength, they are also the decision-makers of their own forces.
Each Divine Lord is a nation unto themselves, a force unto themselves. When every move must involve countless interests, they certainly can't act freely and without constraint; they must consider gains and risks.
The so-called demeanor of the strong is about sacrificing interests for emotional value. If one is an individual without attachments, eating for themselves without needing to feed a family, then of course one would act in their own joy; but if one shoulders the rise and fall of an entire organization, would one sacrifice tangible interests for a bit of emotional value?
More importantly, though they seem to be in a state of peaceful development, at the core they are still in a competitive relationship.
If they don't compete for these inheritances and other Divine Lords do, isn't it zero-sum? Like nations, if they don't strive to occupy this newly emerged resource point and let other nations take it, won't those countries' national power rise while their own declines?
So Ash and the others understood: Divine Lord interference was only a matter of time.
However...
"Isn't this a bit too much?" Ash stared at the lightning that seemed to tear the sky apart, "I thought it would be more covert..."
"There are surely covert attacks as well," Weiser said, "Perhaps from the first day there have been wonders invading to consume the Ghost Inheritance. Tonight's sudden and overt attack probably means someone crossed the warning line."
Diya asked, "What warning line?"
"The warning line of the Ghost Inheritance," Sonia replied, "Someone has gotten close to the finish line. To prevent the winner from monopolizing all the inheritable benefits, they might be trying to directly dismantle the Ghost Inheritance and then scramble over it based on individual abilities."
"How can they do this!" Diya was deeply shocked, "Doesn't that mean we have no chance to inherit the Ghost Inheritance?"
"The situation in the Distant Realm is relatively better, but Ruby Mountain over there is probably more terrifying," Sonia explained, "After all, the Ghost Inheritance is protected by the Fractured Dream Kingdom, so the Divine Lord must first dismantle the Dream Kingdom to intervene. But everyone on Ruby Mountain is exposed on Ruby Mountain, if someone crosses the warning line..."
"The Thousand Wishes Inheritance concerns the ownership of the Heavenly Kingdom, surely involving a bout of remote confrontation among the Divine Lords to determine the victor," Weiser analyzed, "Without backing or backing strong enough, no Legendary Mage can seize the Heavenly Kingdom through mere effort."
Diya was very displeased, "Then might not the Lake Light Inheritance and Time Heritage also be taken by the Divine Lords? This is too much..."
"Lake Light Inheritance and Time Heritage probably won't have any issues," Ash said, "The control of the Eternal City by the King of Time is very strong, even the Heroic Soul Army can't break in. Unless something unexpected happens, the Heroic Soul Army is the strongest intervention force the Divine Lords can deploy on the Time Continent."
"Lake Light Inheritance is the safest—the power level of the Sea of Knowledge is too low; under normal conditions, only One-winged Mages can enter. One-winged Mages are like children, no matter how strong a weapon prepared for them, they can wield little strength. The interference of the Divine Lords within the Sea of Knowledge likely won't exceed Two-winged, wouldn't make waves in the Demi-God Level Angel Inheritance."
"Compared to One-winged Mages, Holy Sanctuary Mages and Legendary Mages already count as adults; the Divine Lords only need to arm them with enough weapons, and they can exert power far beyond their own. Thus, the interference of the Divine Lords in the Distant Realm and Ruby Mountain can rise to the Wonder level!"
Though they understood what was happening, Ash and his friends couldn't do anything.
If One-winged Mages are children, Holy Sanctuary Mages are adults, then the Divine Lords are aircraft carriers. Whatever they wanted, Ash and his friends could only watch, and even they had to be careful not to be hit by stray shots.
The present issue was whether to continue participating in the Ghost Inheritance. After discussion, the group unanimously decided—continue the challenge!
The Ghost Inheritance would not collapse instantly, and even if it does collapse, they could use the Holy Domain to escape, or even seize the chance for a windfall!
