Chapter 108: 108: you can talk
He struck at a straight line, the shock wave sent the goblins flying to the sides, creating a path for him to get to the back.
He ran through the path, swinging his whip in front of him, cutting any goblin that tried to stop him.
He flicked his whip sending an arc of red aura light towards the warrior goblin. The goblin was sent flying the spear it was holding breaking in half.
It was cut through the chest but not deep enough to kill it in one strike.
It leaned against the wall with black blood dripping from its chest. Alaric swung the whip again, wrapping it around's neck and slamming the goblin to the ground.
Another came behind him, brandishing its spear; he side-stepped the spear. He caught the spear and pulled the warrior to him.
He hit the goblin with his elbow on its chest, sending it flying into the crowd of goblins.
He rolled to the ground as a spear was thrown at him and swung his whip towards the goblin and wrapped the whip around its neck and swung it, slamming the goblin against the wall.
A piece of wood pierced through its abdomen, killing it in an instant.
The first goblin ran to him but he stabbed it in the brain. The dagger in his hand cuting smoothly through its head.
He pulled out the knife letting the goblin fall on the ground in a messy pile. He felt like wiping the blood on his hand but he knew it wasn't the time.
He looked around for another warrior but it seemed the four he had fought were the only ones.
He swung his whip towards the panicked goblins, cutting through the remaining group.
" You are really strong," Jezebel said walking towards him. She was still as clean as she had entered. Only her hair was messy with baby hairs sticking to her face due to sweating.
" So are you. "
" Do you want to see what's inside that hole or are you going to the mining tunnel? "
" The hole of course, I'm also wondering what could be inside. "
Jezebel nodded and followed behind him.
Alaric looked into the hole but all he could see was darkness. It looked like a black hole and was kind of scary.
" This doesn't look safe," Jezebel whispers.
Alaric also agreed.
" But we have to go in regardless. The boss might be down there. We don't really have a choice ."
He felt like he was walking directly into a haunted house knowing it was haunted.
" But.."
" You can stay here and pick the remaining spiritual stones," he said softly to her.
She nodded.
" Here, take this. It's a teleportation scroll. My grandma gave it to me so that I could escape danger. You can't teleport to the outside world, but it will take you anywhere in the dungeon as long as you know the specific location. "
Alaric was genuinely touched. This scroll can't be bought with money, only with awakeners' stones. Still the scrolls were very much in demand.
" Okay, but don't go too deep. I'll teleport here after getting the dungeon core. "
" Good luck. "
Alaric nodded. He knew if she went with him, he would be divided into two. Trying to look out for her and fighting the boss.
He jumped into the hole that seemed to be calling to him. The moment he entered the darkness during the fall, he could feel himself losing his senses.
The feeling lasted for only a minute before he burst from the dark, and the ground appeared.
He landed on the ground still standing, creating a small crater.
I should have rolled, he thought to himself while trying to get rid of the numb feeling in his legs.
" Ooh, you've arrived," a scratchy voice came.
Alaric looked in front of him to see a small goblin. It looked to be the same height as the worker goblins. Around four feet.
" You can talk?" Alaric couldn't stop himself from bluttering. He was genuinely shocked. He thought he would find the talking kind in A-class or B-class dungeons.
The goblin laughed, looking at him, amusement in its eyes.
" Yes, as you can see. Every sentient being can communicate. Just because you do not understand what they are saying it doesn't mean they do not communicate."
Alaric nodded. He paused his senses returning, was he just talking to a goblin and having a sound discussion?
He looked around the cave. It wasn't much different from the cave above, just a smaller version.
He then noticed on a shelf that the dungeon core was placed in a small jar.
Alaric was getting more and more confused. He thought dungeon cores were inside the bosses not kept on a shelf as decorations.
The goblin seemed to have noticed his gaze. It walked towards the shelf and picked up the core.
" Ooh, you want the key?" He asked looking at the core.
Alaric nodded.
" If you don't mind," he said hesitantly.
" I don't. It seems your kind have such an obsession with such simple things. But I suppose it's understandable. You're simple creatures after all, " it said calmly.
Alaric couldn't even detect a hint of mocking in its voice. Why was a talking goblin calling him simple? and why was he even still talking to it?
" Is that something common?"
" Of course it's from....."
Alaric could only see the goblin's mouth move; he couldn't hear a thing.
The goblin finished talking then looked at him as though waiting for a response.
" I couldn't hear anything, your voice disappeared."
The goblin's eyes widened, then it nodded.
" I see."
" Why are you mining those spiritual stones?" He asked. He'd gotten an opportunity to get answers even though it left him with a lot of questions, but it still helped.
" Ooh, because my lord needs them of course. "
Alaric was surprised.
" But how? "
The goblin seemed to understand him and laughed.
" You naive child. It seems I can't say too much. "
" Aren't you going to get revenge on your people? " He was curious. Most of the time, the boss will attack him the moment he steps into their territory.
" Why would I care about mere slaves," the goblin's face scrunched up in disgust. So he was really fighting cannon fodder.
Alaric didn't even know how to respond to that.
" You've really made my day but you have to die. There are too many crystals remaining for me to abandon. You have really brought me a huge loss. Now I have to bring new slaves again, " the goblin said.
The mood changed quickly.
A staff appeared in the goblin's hand, and it pointed the staff at him and started chanting. Alaric knew he couldn't let the goblin finish.
He swung his whip towards the goblin, but it hit a barrier. The goblin didn't even flinch as Alaric continued to hit the barrier harder.
Cracks started to appear on the barrier with each hit until it broke into pieces. The staff turned purple and a small wriggling ball of what looked like a mixture of condensed smoke and goblin blood mixed together.
Alaric moved to the side trying to side-step the disgusting mess but the thing followed him
He tried to hit it, but it would separate and then mold back together.
" It's a curse, you cannot escape a curse no matter where you run. "
Alaric looked at the thing and stopped. He wanted to take a gamble and see if he could survive.
He stopped. The moment the curse reached him, a black coating appeared on his skin at the place.
Carapace instinct.
He swung the whip the moment the curse touched him and wrapped it around the goblin, slamming him down.
He pulled the goblin towards him and punched it before throwing its lifeless body against the wall.
The moment the goblin died the curse sizzled then disappeared. Alaric had taken a gamble with the assumption of how magicians are weak combat-wise.
During his dodging, he had been trying to move towards the goblin, but it would move backwards every time he came near it, and the curses' speed would increase.
The goblin had been surprisingly weak or he just caught it off guard. Alaric couldn't wrap his head around it since it was too easy.
To his surprise, a dungeon core floated out of the goblin's body. Alaric picked it up, turning it around, wondering where the hell it came from.
He went and picked the jar with the other dungeon core and looked at the core. He opened the jar and took it out comparing the two.
They looked exactly the same and he could assert it was a dungeon core. This made him more confused. The goblin had said humanity was still backwards and couldn't understand anything, but still, it just didn't make any sense.
Alaric put the dungeon core back into the jar and stored it in his space. He walked around the room looking at the things on the shelf but couldn't find anything useful. It was just spiritual stones and a weird looking book that he also took.
He couldn't understand the language inside but it didn't hurt to research. He walked to the goblin's body and bashed its head in. He picked the skill card and, surprisingly, found three awakeners' stones inside.
After picking up the items a portal appeared a meter from him. The moment he saw it, his instincts screamed at him.
