Chapter 107: 107: Together
Jezebel had changed if that's what he could call it. Her purple hair had been tied into a ponytail with loose hairs falling on her face.
She wasn't wearing her usual baggy clothes, she was wearing a blue crop top and black booty shorts. Even Alaric was a little surprised by her change. Rebellion maybe.
The only thing that seemed to have survived was her glasses.
The moment their eyes met hers widened in surprise before turning to delight.
She walked towards him and pulled him into a hug. He took a glance at her grandfather to find him shooting daggers at him.
He now understood why the man had been so helpful to him. Maybe it was because he had saved his granddaughter. That was the most logical reasoning he could come up with.
" Are you going to the dungeon?"
" Yes," Alaric nodded.
" Sweet, mind if I go with you, please?"
Alaric turned to look at her grandfather for help, but the man avoided his gaze. Guess the decision has already been made for him.
" It's a C-class dungeon."
" I'm a C class I can handle it, it won't be the first dungeon I went to."
"I won't protect you."
" Who said I needed protection?"
Alaric looked at her determined face and sighed. Why can't he have a normal day on his first outing?
" Fine, but you're going to have to fight by yourself don't expect a lot from me."
Alaric knew it was just empty threats but he just wanted her to know his stance. He was also curious about her growth.
She was really a genius, she had just finished her awakening a month ago, or so, and now here she was already at C class.
" Here, Jezzy, remember to come back directly here," the old man said, giving her the card.
Alaric nodded at the man before leaving. Jezebel's grandfather didn't even look at him.
Alaric felt like flying over the small booth, he was clearly not happy with the arrangements, but he seemed to be a simp for his granddaughter.
" Why is your grandpa working in the association?"
He was really curious. He knew Jezebel was loaded, from the way she talked and how she described her family.
" He's bored."
They were all awakeners so he knew they were wealthy. And even though her clothes were baggy, they were still high quality and expensive.
They arrived at the site ten minutes later. It wasn't far from the association but the dungeon had appeared near the business area.
They went to the registration area and gave out their cards.
" Are you the only ones going or do you have a team?"
" The only ones. Is that not allowed on this one?," Alaric answered.
" No I'm just curious. Okay, the dungeon is new so you guys are going to be the first ones to enter."
Alaric nodded. He took their cards and walked to the portal.
" Let's make a bet," he said to Jezebel suddenly.
She looked at him confused.
" Seriously right now, you really want to play games."
" Just say yes or no."
" Okay, I want to see what's gotten into."
Alaric smiled.
" You're going to love it. If any of us gets the correct answer we can each make one wish the other has to fulfill."
Jezebel was quiet for a moment before she nodded.
" Deal. So what's the question.'
" Can you guess what we'll find in the dungeon ?"
" That's a ridiculous question. Probably a fire dungeon."
" I'll go with water. I've never been to an aquatic dungeon," he said with a smile.
" Trust me you don't want to go there. Just because someone can breathe underwater doesn't mean they can fight. Aquatic is among the top three hated dungeons."
Alaric thought otherwise. Maybe he could get his dreams fulfilled there. He might meet a beautiful mermaid who might try to seduce him and sing for him. He actually just wanted to see a real mermaid instead of the knock-off versions on Earth.
Alaric took her hand and pulled her into the portal.
The light faded, and they found themselves inside a long, cave-like tunnel. There were chattering noises bouncing all over the place. This gave him the creeps, but he was already used to finding abnormalities in the dungeon.
" I guess we all failed," Alaric said breaking the tension in the air.
" It's you who is out of luck, the inhabitants might use fire. That classifies the dungeon as fire."
" Aah, I don't think fire and wood can mix together very well cause those little things have clubs."
" What the heck are you talking about.."
She turned to look into the tunnel her eyes widening.
" Shit goblins, the worst. This little shits reproduce like mice. They are one of the most well-coordinated dungeon monsters."
She threw a shot of lightning at the incoming goblins. Three of the goblins were thrown back, burnt to a crisp.
The others near them were electrocuted causing them to slow down. Jezebel didn't stop her onslaught; she shot her lightning in different directions of the oncoming goblins, slowing them down.
Alaric didn't move, she seemed to be enjoying herself too much for him to interrupt.
He would occasionally kill the strays that escaped from her encirclement. She noticed this and went all in. She was clearly enjoying being in the dungeon.
After a while of killing and electrocuting. The last Goblin was burnt to a crisp. The tunnel was filled with the nauseating smell of burnt flesh.
" Let's go," she said to him.
Alaric nodded and followed behind her. The place got darker and darker the deeper they went, but they didn't meet any goblins.
" Do you think we killed all of them? Are there more?" Jezebel whispered.
Alaric shook his head that was impossible. They had killed almost a hundred of them. But goblins have the greatest reproductive abilities among humanoid creatures.
" I don't think so, but it's still weird," he said to her.
They walked in silence again until Alaric spotted a small light.
" I think we've reached their base. We have to be careful," Alaric whispered, slowing down his pace.
They walked slowly, leaning against the wall as they moved forward until they reached the entrance and peered inside.
What he saw was different from what he had expected. He had expected maybe a group of goblins just lying around and worshipping their chief. Or living up to their horny reputation.
But what was in front of him was different from what he had imagined. The goblins seemed to be mining they were pulling huge carts filled with what looked like roughly cut white stones. They would pull a cart to the edge of a huge hole and pour the contents inside.
There were almost twenty carts filled with these stones just pouring and turning back and entering other tunnels.
" Spiritual stones," Jezebel murmured.
Alaric looked on surprised.
" Those are spiritual stones, but they don't look like the normal-sized ones."
" That's because the ones available have been curved to make them look more appealing," Jezebel answered," my family owns one of the spiritual stones curving companies."
Alaric nodded. Spiritual stones were basically mana-filled stones from the dungeons. They were mainly used in the creation of the mana training rooms. Since they released mana after being mined, they were the perfect stones for creating a conducive dungeon-like condition without causing harm or being excessive, since they can be regulated.
The government doesn't have strict regulations on them since they were expensive anyway and not many people could afford to replace them every time.
" I could give you some if you want them," Jezebel said suddenly.
Alaric smiled and ran his hands through her hair.
" That's so sweet of you."
He looked back at the working goblins trying to think of a way he could enter the dungeon without alarming most of the goblins at first. There were close to three hundred and he was sure those were just workers. He wanted to go for the warriors.
He could see some of the bigger goblins carrying spears and walking among the smaller goblins.
But what made him curious was the hole the spiritual stones were being thrown into.
He couldn't see what was inside since he was far away but he was sure it wasn't something good.
" So what do we do now?" Jezebel whispered.
" Just charge in, I can't really get any way to sneak in, the cave is just too open."
" Okay."
She threw a bolt of lightning towards the nearest goblin. It screamed before twitching and dying.
All the goblins stopped what they were doing and turned to look at them. There was a staring competition for a while before they all dropped what they were doing and charged towards them.
Alaric, this time, was not going to hold back. He swung his whip, cutting through half of the goblins running to him.
His eyes were not on the Cannon fodder at the front but on the warrior goblins at the back.
