Chapter 32: The Tension....
Lucas got tense and scared at the thought of losing Sarah again, so he rushed over to Ava.
He found her sitting under a tree, scrolling through her phone, and called out, "Ava, I'm not going to wait any longer. Just tell me how I should confess my feelings to her."
Ava looked up, startled by his sudden appearance and urgency. "Calm down, Lucas! What happened? Why do you suddenly want to rush the proposal?"
He took a deep breath, his emotions spilling out. "Once, I let her go to Kane, and I've regretted it every single day since. I regret not confessing my feelings to her before. And now, when I finally have the chance to tell her how much she matters to me, I can't lose that chance to William. I don't want any more regrets in my life."
Ava nodded sympathetically. "Alright, I understand. But Lucas, why don't you plan this out a little better? Propose to her on a special day and at a special place. It'll mean more to her."
Lucas shook his head, his voice firm yet full of affection. "Every day and every moment with her is special, Ava. And wherever she goes, that place becomes special itself."
Ava smiled, touched by his words. "You're really something, Lucas. Okay, then, why not wait for the weekend? Take her out somewhere nice. Spend some quality time with her, and then confess your feelings. It'll give you the perfect opportunity."
Lucas's face lit up with determination. "Okay, done. Thank you so much, Ava. You're a great friend!"
As Lucas walked away with renewed hope, Ava stayed behind, watching him disappear into the distance.
Ava's thoughts: Lucas truly loves Sarah. The way he looks at her, talks about her, it's all so genuine. I hope one day, I'll find someone who loves me like that.
Meanwhile, Sarah was peacefully enjoying her coffee in her room when her mom knocked and stepped inside.
"Mom, what's up?" Sarah asked, placing her mug on the table.
Her mom smiled gently and sat beside her. "Sweetheart, it's been days since your heartbreak, and I can see you're trying to move on. But now, I want you to focus on your studies and be the old Sarah again. I can't see you heartbroken anymore. If you need help with your studies, let me know. I'll enroll you in extra classes or even hire a tutor. Princess, I'm always here for you, so don't let sadness hold you back."
Hearing her mom's words, Sarah felt a sense of comfort. "Thanks, Mom. I'll try my best."
After her mom left, Sarah sat down to study. After a while, she got stuck on a math problem. Her first instinct was to message Kane, as he had always helped her with such problems. But then, the reality of their breakup hit her, and she hesitated. Taking a deep breath, she messaged William instead.
William's reply came quickly:
"Hey, still awake this late? Don't worry about the problem; we'll go over it in the library tomorrow. For now, get some sleep. Take care."
Feeling reassured, Sarah smiled faintly and replied, "Thanks. Good night." She put her phone aside and went to sleep.
The next day in the library, Sarah was seated at a table, waiting for William, when Lucas walked in. Spotting her, he walked over.
"You look nice today," Lucas said with a grin.
"Thanks, Lucas," Sarah replied, adjusting her notebook.
Before he could sit down, Ava arrived and pulled him away. "Come on, Lucas. Let's sit somewhere else."
"What? Why?" Lucas asked, puzzled.
"Because I have something important to tell you," Ava whispered, dragging him away.
As Lucas left reluctantly, William entered the library and joined Sarah. He sat down beside her, pulled out his notes, and started helping her with the math problem.
From across the library, Kane spotted them. His chest tightened as memories of his and Sarah's times in the library came flooding back—laughing over silly mistakes, competing to solve problems first. He clenched his fists.
"They look good together, don't they?" Selena's voice broke his thoughts. She was standing beside him, her tone casual but laced with jealousy.
Kane didn't reply, his gaze still fixed on Sarah and William.
Selena stepped closer. "Come on, Kane. Let's not ruin this. You're with me now, and they… well, they seem happy." She slipped her hand into his and added with a sly smile, "Let's get some coffee."
Reluctantly, Kane let Selena lead him out, but not before taking one last glance at Sarah.
Back at the table, William noticed Sarah's focused expression as she worked through the next problem.
"You've got it now," he said. "See? That wasn't so hard."
Sarah smiled, finally feeling like she was catching up. "Thanks, William. I don't think I would've figured this out without your help."
"That's what I'm here for as your senior it's my responsibility to help my juniors and peers ," William said casually.
After William helped her solve the problem, they both packed their things and left the library. On her way to meet Olivia and Sophia, Sarah couldn't stop replaying Lucas's compliment in her mind.
"Why did Lucas say that? He's always friendly, but lately, it feels... different."
Her thoughts spiraled as she joined her friends in the cafeteria. Olivia waved her over while Sophia saved her a seat.
"You're looking lost," Olivia said, sipping her juice. "What's on your mind?"
Sophia smirked. "Let me guess—boy trouble?"
Sarah hesitated but finally said, "It's Lucas."
"Lucas?" Olivia raised an eyebrow. "What about him?"
Sarah leaned forward, keeping her voice low. "He complimented me earlier, but the way he said it—it felt strange. Like, not normal Lucas strange."
Sophia exchanged a knowing glance with Olivia. "Hmm... Do you think he likes you?"
"What?" Sarah almost spilled her coffee. "No! Lucas is just a friend. He's never been... like that."
Olivia shrugged. "Sometimes feelings change. Are you sure he hasn't been acting differently around you lately?"
Sarah paused, remembering how Lucas had been hovering around her more, finding excuses to talk to her. "Now that you mention it… he has been a little more attentive. But no, it can't be that. Right?"
Sophia grinned. "Well, there's one way to find out. Keep an eye on him."
"Or just ask him," Olivia added, laughing.
Sarah shook her head, laughing nervously. "You're both impossible. He's just being Lucas. It's probably nothing."
But as they changed the topic, Sarah couldn't shake the thought.
"What if they're right? What if Lucas does like me?"
She glanced across the room, catching Lucas talking to Ava in the distance. Her thoughts swirled as questions filled her mind, leaving her more confused than ever.
