Chapter 22: New Beginnings
Morgan woke up disoriented. She was lying on top of Sunny surrounded by shredded cloth. 'What? What happened?' She sat up, noticing parts of her suit strewn across the floor. Confused, she looked down at herself and finally realised what had happened.
Her eyes widened, images of the night before flashing in her mind. She also realised she had been lying on Sunny. 'Oh wow, this room is really destroyed.'
Morgan remembered what led up to that point. She had pinned him to the ground and left him gasping for air. Her face heated up as she remembered how uncouth she had been.
'Speaking of which, how was he so strong?' Morgan had the lineage of the War god in addition to transcendent strength, but his might had forced her to use one of her stored enchantments to keep him on the ground. 'Some kind of charm?'
Morgan brushed over it and sorted through her memories of the rest of the night. They had then talked and Sunny had said some things that had hurt her in ways she had never been hurt before.
She had then asked him to just embrace her for the night. Back then it had been an immature desire to just be free of her emotional pain, but now she had to live with the consequences of her actions.
'Does he even feel anything towards me?' She felt like she had just taken advantage of him and his kindness. 'I should leave before he wakes up.'
Morgan went to stand up but then realised why she had been lying on Sunny. The bed they had started the night in was gone, it was now sprinkled throughout the room like confetti.
Sunny was lying on the floor which had many deep gashes in it that seemed to be slowly healing. Morgan realised something. Without her custom suit on, the surroundings weren't safe from her flaw.
'That's a problem…' Morgan couldn't move off of Sunny if she didn't want to create a pit beneath her and fall through the floor. It was while she was considering how to get her clothes, that Sunny woke up.
He groaned slightly and attempted to sit up. He had some difficulty, so he simply used more effort and managed to anyway. Morgan let out a yelp. The sound snapped Sunny out of his reverie and immediately caught her.
She was barely being kept above the ground, her feet dangled mere centimetres away from the already damaged floorboards. She coughed lightly and spoke, "Thanks."
Sunny stared at her, still trying to process things, but he instinctively responded. "No problem…" He paused, before asking something else. "Why are you naked?"
Instead of answering him, Morgan asked a question of her own. "Could you sit down again please, I don't have anywhere to stand."
Sunny didn't move for a while, but he soon complied and sat down, allowing her to settle in his lap. She could no longer see his face, but he seemed to come to a realisation. "OH!"
She crossed her legs, "Yeah…" There was a long moment of silence as Sunny seemed to be trying to process things.
"So we- wait, what no. What are we now?" Morgan was confused about that too.
"I mean we are married." Sunny appeared to accept that answer, but then seemed confused again.
"No but that was political, do you love me?" Morgan went from being amused at Sunny being flustered, to being sad again.
"It doesn't matter, you don't feel the same way." Morgan was somewhat depressed but she had already made up her mind.
'It's best to distance myself from him.' It was heartbreaking for her, she had finally managed to find someone that wasn't affected by her flaw, but had ruined everything and had to walk away.
She shifted, planning to lean over and grab her clothes, but Sunny wrapped his arms around her, holding her in place. "Don't say that."
***
Sunny didn't entirely know how he felt about Morgan, but he knew he didn't feel nothing. He had definitely seen a different side of her in the past week, and she had somewhat grown on him.
Sunny didn't hate her, he felt an undeniable attraction to her, but he didn't know the depths of his romantic feelings towards her.
'Maybe I shouldn't have just agreed to sleep with her.' The previous night had thrown his emotions into a mess, and before he had the chance to sort them out, he had embraced her.
This made him even more confused about his already chaotic emotions, but he knew one thing. He didn't know if it was love, but his feelings for Morgan were set apart from being merely platonic.
Morgan felt the same way about him, he remembered her pouring her heart out to him before the fateful decision that had put him into this situation.
Sunny had noticed that she never truly said she loved him, and he didn't know if he truly loved her. They were already married, but that wasn't an emotional affair. They had skipped so many steps in their relationship that he didn't know how to feel anymore.
He held onto Morgan and voiced his opinion. "I think this has progressed too fast. How about we take it back a few notches and start over." She listened to him quietly. She was turned away from him so he couldn't see her face.
She didn't say anything so he hesitated before continuing. "So what do you say? Do you want to go on a date with me?"
Morgan didn't say anything for a while, but when she finally spoke he understood why. "I thought I had lost you forever." Her voice sounded like she was holding back tears and he was suddenly flustered again.
She took a deep breath, composing herself and turning around to face him. "Yes, I'll start over with you." She spoke before leaning forwards and planting a soft kiss on his lips.
Water built up in her eyes, but she was smiling, "Let's do better this time."
