Love is Worth Waiting for

Chapter 18: Beyond Imagination

Morgan was barely keeping herself composed, but somehow, something even more shocking distracted her from the kiss.

She had been watching every second of the process but couldn't figure out what was happening the entire way through.

At the end of the spectacle, Morgan watched as the shadows that had been thrown across the room coalesced into two obsidian rings that fell onto the altar. She couldn't explain it, but she felt an intrinsic connection with one of them, as if it was a part of her being.

She watched as Sunny reached out and touched one of the rings, it instantly broke into countless lightless sparks and disappeared. 'Is that what's supposed to happen?' He didn't seem surprised so she assumed so.

Morgan followed his example, reaching out and touching the ring she felt a connection too. As it broke into sparks, she heard the familiar voice of the spell whisper in her ear. [You have received a memory.]

She was surprised, but not too surprised. She had expected that the Shadow Clan would have its fair share of secrets too.

Morgan spared a glance over at the saints she had brought along, Nephis was furrowing her brow and Cassia was visibly pale, but the rest seemed awestruck at the sight of what just occurred. Even Jest was silent in admiration, and Tyris' eyes were visibly widened.

Morgan looked back at Sunny and he smiled at her. The simple action made her heart flutter and her emotions to become a storm again but she forcefully calmed them down. "Check your runes."

She did as he instructed. Grateful to have something she could distract herself with. Shimmering runes appeared in front of her detailing her state.

Morgan looked to the end of her list of memories where a new one could be found. [Divine Union] She focused on the runes and more appeared, this time detailing her new memory.

Memory: Divine Union

Memory Type: ???

Memory Rank: ???

Memory Description: [...and thus the union was branded unto both domains. Life ends with Death, and Death begets new Life. War brings a harvest for Death and Peace is promised at the end of War. At the end of a finite struggle lies an infinite requiem. War and its Shadow complete and strengthen each other, without one, the other is meaningless, but together they mean everything.]

Memory Enchantments: [Shadowbound]

[Would you like to bind this memory?]

[Yes/No]

Morgan was left completely in the dark about the nature of the memory, but it definitely held significance beyond that of a wedding ring. It almost seemed to be important on a divine scale.

One thing that confused her was that the spell seemed to have only given her half of a description. Then again, there were two rings, so maybe the other half was with Sunny's.

She was thoroughly convinced that the Shadow Clan was far more than it let on. She now placed them far above the House of Night. In fact, despite not having a sovereign, the advantages and knowledge they seemed to possess made them close to Valor and Song in value.

Morgan hesitated, but eventually gave a mental command to the spell. [Your memory has been destroyed.] she froze, suddenly regretting her decision. [You have received a new attribute.] Relieved, she checked her runes once again.

At the bottom of her list of attributes there was a new one. [Hand in Divine Unity] She focused on the runes and its description showed up.

[Hand in Divine Unity] Attribute Description: [...and thus the union was branded unto both domains. Life ends with Death, and Death begets new Life. War brings a harvest for Death and Peace is promised at the end of War. At the end of a finite struggle lies an infinite requiem. War and its Shadow complete and strengthen each other, without one, the other is meaningless, but together they mean everything.]

Attribute Traits: [Bound], [Manifestation], [Cycle of Life and Death], [Unbreakable Bond], [Part of a Whole], [Together in Death], [Meaning of Life]

Morgan was intrigued, usually she'd need to find out the enchantments of a memory through external means, but because it had become an attribute, it was all presented to her.

She focused on the runes of each one individually, excited to see what Sunny had achieved from such a grand spectacle.

[Bound] Trait Description: [Divine Union is bound to your soul and will grow with it.]

[Manifestation] Trait Description: [Divine Union can be manifested]

'So it's a memory that grows… I didn't know that was possible.' Morgan thought briefly about all the possibilities memories that could grow would bring.

[Cycle of Life and Death] Trait Description: [Combines your domains with the domains of the other holder of Divine Union. Both domains will supplement and empower each other.]

This left her speechless. A memory that could alter domains was exceedingly rare even among supreme ranks, let alone an attribute that had a passive effect. Even then, it was unheard of for two domains to merge.

'It seems I underestimated the Shadow Clan.' She couldn't believe they were capable of creating such a thing. 'And there's still more.'

[Unbreakable Bond] Trait Description: [You can communicate mentally with the other holder of Divine Union over any distance and through any interference.]

[Part of a Whole] Trait Description: [You and the other holder of Divine Union are treated as the same person.]

[Together in Death] Trait Description: [You cannot die as long as the other holder of Divine Union is alive.]

[Meaning of Life] Trait Description: [Adds the domain of Life onto your domain]

[Unbreakable Bond] and [Part of a Whole] were both useful, but [Together in Death] and [Meaning of Life] were beyond her wildest dreams.

'Does that mean I have a domain as a saint? and I'm immortal as long as Sunny is alive?' She was speechless once again. Her sense of wonder was completely overloaded so she was oddly calm about the situation.

Morgan was sure she would feel the effects later, but for now she had to focus on the event. 'Wow.' She smiled brightly, 'What a great decision to marry him.'
