Lost Origins: SS Ranked Awakening

Chapter 186: Fatal Flaw

Jose looked at Ruby who stared at them with bloodshot eyes and palpable bloodlust coming off her.

"Shit! You think we can't kill you while you're injured?"

Jose cursed, the fiery anger in his chest burning away the feeling of fear that had overwhelmed him a moment ago.

'I'm a second year in a higher stage than she is. What does she take me for??'

'That look in her eyes, even with all the injuries on her body!!'

His anger morphed into bloodlust and his aura burst forward, rushing towards Ruby.

The second recuit also went after him, eager to put an end to things once and for all.

Ruby watched on as the two recruits blindly approached her and reigned in the urge to lash out, silently waiting for them to step within range.

The moment Jose stepped foot within her attack range, time seemed to have slowed down for him as a shiver ran through his body as if standing before an apex predator.

Ruby's bloodshot eyes gleamed and merely took a step forward, shooting the weighted part of the kusarigama towards Jose at blinding speeds.

Jose who was in a state of derealizaton had no way to react and was about be crushed by the weight only to be pulled aside by the collar by the second recruit.

Without any time for words, he was tossed to the side and while the second recruit pushed forward with a two daggers in hand.

Seeing him move faster than she could throw the weights, Ruby tool a step back and weilded the weapon by the handle, letting him get up close spinning the other kusarigama in her second hand.

"You're injured, there isn't much you can do!"

The recruit said, getting close enough to deliver an upward slash, but Ruby was unphased and held her position, turning her upper body intangible and watching the expression on the recruits face morph into one of annoyance as his blade went through her body.

The missed attack left him open and Ruby didn't miss a a single beat, rapping the the chain of the weapon around him and spinning him around.

Stopping his body by pressing her knee against his back, she slashed down with the blade of the blood red sickle, feeling the sharp blade cut through the skin with ease before being stopped by his collar bone.

Getting this sensation, she turned around and yanked on the chain hard, dragging the sickle along with it, successfully slicing through his shoulder.

"Arrrghhh!!!"

The recruit screamed in pain, seeing his arm lobbed off and laying on the ground a just beside him.

Ruby wasn't done with him yet, but her work on the first template was interrupted by Jose who had gotten back on his feet, rushing forward.

In Ruby's eyes, he was nothing more than a rabid dog running to its own death, and she didn't mind that one bit. In fact she welcomed it!

With the other weapon still spinning in her hand, she used her leg as an anchor, sending the weighted end towards him once more, preventing him from getting close, but Jose wasn't about to get beaten by the same trick twice.

Veins popped out randomly on his forearm which had doubled in size and he caught the weapon.

Still the force sent him skidding back.

'I've got you now'

His eyes flashed with bloodlust and he wrapped the weapon around his arm, yanking Ruby towards him with a force that she couldnt resist.

Her approaching figure was welcomed with a fist the gut, aggravating the pain she was trying so bad to suppress and made her cough up more blood.

Ruby felt the world around her go dizzy at the blow. Her back stung badly and her body begged to shut down, but she bit down on her tongue, snapping awake and using her other hand to drag the free weapon while letting go of the one in Jose's grasp.

Wielding a single kusarigama in her hand, Ruby didn't feat getting close to Jose who had a physical ability well suited for close combat purposes.

She could no longer afford to turn any part of her bksy intangible and Jose happened to have somehow deduced that from the fact that his attack earlier jad landed and didn't just go through her.

Each of his attacks were sent with full weight behind them, holding nothing back, forcing Ruby to fight in a rather evasive manner.

A few more blows from him and her body wouldn't really to handle it any longer.

Still, the fight in her eyes was far from gone as she switched her tempo and started increasing the intensity of her attacks, pushing Jose backwards slowly by stepping into his blindspot.

'Shit, she's cornering me!!'

Jose cursed, but by the time he noticed, it was already too late and Ruby had managed to put him in the position she wanted.

Seeing that the stage had been set, Ruby's emerald eyes flashed and her attacks suddenly exploded with an unseen force, overwhelming Jose in a number of strikes, leaving his body to bear the brunt of the attacks.

Pretty soon, his durable body could handle it no longer and started to tear and get sliced by her attacks.

Unlike he had thought, Ruby wasn't dependent on her ability in anyway. In fact, her strengths laid in her skill in wielding her weapons.

She made sure to train herself in weapon mastery and to depend less on her ability because it had one fatal flaw.

It could only be used as an element of surprise, to catch the enemy off guard. Once it had been revealed, there were numerous ways to counter her ability and it was only a matter of time before her opponent figured out a way and it happened.

Ruby with the thought of improvement had managed to surpass that flaw by complimenting her ability with her weapon mastery, making its use more fluid and predictable.

Looking at Jose who laid on the ground defeated, she walked towards him, ready to fufuil her promise.

"Ruby!! Don't!!"

A family voice came from behind her making her pause in shock, but her body couldn't handle anymore, failing her and slumping to the ground as she fell unconscious.
