Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 475: Family Comes First

Early morning.

Luke loaded the luggage into the trunk and drove his Mercedes G500 to his mother's house.

He parked the car outside the yard and saw Robert and Val had already arrived.

The chubby kid stood in the yard, gesturing with his hands as he chatted excitedly with the two.

Linda came out of the house, dragging a large suitcase and locking the door behind her, "Jack, come and give me a hand."

"Mom, I'm here." The chubby kid dashed over quickly. He had made quite a few promises to get his mom to agree to let him go to Hawaii.

Robert shouted, "OK, Luke is here too, we can set off now.

Everyone check to see if there's anything left behind."

The chubby kid dragged the suitcase to the Mercedes and replied, "We packed everything last night, Grandpa, hurry and get in the car, we're heading out."

Luke opened the car trunk and packed his mother's, uncle's, and grandfather's luggage inside, filling the trunk to the brim.

Everyone got into Luke's Mercedes and headed to Los Angeles Airport.

After arriving at Los Angeles International Airport, they completed the registration and security check, easily reaching the waiting lounge.

The family had booked the earliest flight, and it was only six o'clock in the morning.

The boarding time was half-past six.

The chubby kid and Val kept yawning because they woke up so early.

The chubby kid asked, "Does anyone want coffee? I'll go buy some."

Robert said, "I don't think that's a good idea.

I know you're all tired now, but it's best to hold off. You can rest after boarding the plane, and even catch some sleep on it.

You'll be well-rested by the time we land and can enjoy Hawaii properly."

The chubby kid asked, "Grandpa, how long is the flight?"

"If the flight is on time, it'll take five hours to get to Hawaii, enough time for you to rest."

"What if it's not on time?"

Robert tapped his head lightly, "Don't jinx it, you wouldn't want to find out."

The chubby kid shrugged.

Yawning, Val said, "I'm so tired. I need a nap now. Make sure to wake me when we board."

"You young ones don't have the energy that we older folks do." Robert pulled Val's suitcase over and looked a bit bored at the waiting lounge TV.

At that moment, the television was broadcasting a news report.

"Good morning, viewers, I'm Charlemagne, the news reporter for CBS.

I'm broadcasting an urgent report. We've just received news that Little Gary Sane, son of real estate tycoon Gary Sane, has been kidnapped on a luxury private yacht near the waters off Los Angeles.

Currently, the motive of the kidnapper is unknown. However, reliable sources say the kidnapper has extorted a sky-high ransom from Gary Sane, possibly setting a new record.

We will continue to follow up on this report..."

Robert frowned and said, "Gary Sane, I know this guy. The Bexar community was developed by his company, a very business-savvy guy."

The chubby kid looked at his phone, "Since it's already in the news, why isn't there an Amber Alert?"

Yawning, Val struggled to sleep in the noisy airport hall, "That means his son is an adult. Initially, I felt some sympathy hearing about his son's kidnapping.

But finding out that he was kidnapped on a luxury private yacht, I feel like my sympathy is a bit misplaced.

Someone like me has no right to pity him."

Linda, with a serious expression, pondered, "From the looks of this case on the news, it's quite a stir. Luke, will the police notify you to go back and investigate?"

"Mom, I'm on paid leave right now; this case has nothing to do with me. Los Angeles isn't short on police officers."

Linda still seemed a bit worried, "But you're the best one; I wouldn't want your name to pop over the broadcast just as we're about to board."

Luke waved a hand, "Because I'm the best, I can't handle everything. Other colleagues need a chance to shine.

I swear to God, apart from Hawaii, I'm not going anywhere today."

"OK." Linda nodded but seemed still not completely at ease.

Half an hour later, Luke and the group successfully boarded the plane.

The plane took off, passed through the clouds, and flew toward the Hawaiian Islands.

Luke closed his eyes to rest; he had gotten up before five this morning to catch the flight and was feeling tired now.

A nap would give him the energy to enjoy Hawaii when they arrived.

The journey was incredibly smooth, encountering no turbulent airflow.

They had a meal on the plane, caught another nap, and it was almost time to disembark.

There was some turbulence and ear popping during landing.

Even having flown many times, being up in the sky certainly makes one a bit anxious.

"Bang!" The plane landed smoothly at Honolulu International Airport.

Luke let out a breath of relief, checked his watch; it was half-past eight Hawaiian time.

There's a three-hour time difference between Los Angeles and Hawaii.

This was why they took the earliest flight; it was not even nine o'clock upon landing, allowing a full day of exploration.

Hawaii consists of several islands, with planes being the main mode of transport between them.

Luke was visiting Hawaii for the first time; the main spot for their trip was Oahu Island, also called the heart of Hawaii, with Honolulu as its capital.
