Chapter 464: Ambush (Part 2)
Seeing someone load a corpse onto a pickup truck, that car was Harry's.
I was terrified.
I guessed Harry might have been murdered, so I followed the truck from a distance and saw it drive to a place near Stevenville Street on the outskirts of Los Angeles, where they dug a hole and buried the corpse."
"Did you see who was moving the body?"
"It was already ten o'clock at night, the sky was dark, and I didn't dare get too close. I only knew there were two killers, but couldn't make out their appearance, especially since they were wearing masks."
Luke continued to ask, "What did you do afterward?"
"After they left, I wanted to dig up the body to confirm if it was Harry.
I just managed to dig up his corpse when a Tesla car came over, fearing being discovered, I immediately left.
They killed Harry; they certainly wouldn't spare me, so I hid in that temporary shelter until you guys came."
Enco Dumate's description largely matched the situation with Harry Sabo's murder.
Luke despised this guy even more internally; he knew to hide after causing trouble, yet didn't care for his wife and children at home. If they hadn't come to the door, Mrs. Dumate and her daughter would have faced dire circumstances.
During the conversation, Luke and the other two drove to the vicinity of Davilar Community.
Reid also arrived on site to command, and David and Vincent, the deputy team, were there too.
Luke greeted proactively, "Chief."
Reid nodded, his gaze turning to Enco Dumate, "Is he the girl's father?"
"His name is Enco Dumate.
Some time ago, he took two hundred thousand US Dollars worth of drugs from the robber Adel Owen without paying, and Adel Owen kidnapped his daughter to get back the drug money." After Luke briefly introduced, he asked,
"Chief, have we tracked the little girl's whereabouts?"
"Under the direction of the robber you caught, Rider Kramer, we found the robber's hideout, just east of Davilar Community.
I've posted agents to keep an eye on the house's surroundings.
The SWAT team is also on site; as long as the situation inside the room is clarified, they can enter the house at any time to rescue the hostage.
This is the house's structural blueprint." Reid pointed at a drawing spread out in front of the vehicle.
Luke walked over to examine it and asked, "Are they confident they can subdue the criminals without harming the hostage?"
Reid shook his head, "Subduing the criminals isn't hard; they can storm in anytime, but... If a shootout happens, they can't guarantee the hostage's absolute safety.
Therefore, I'd like to hear your plan."
Luke glanced at Enco Dumate, "There are currently four robbers inside the house; even the SWAT team would find it difficult to subdue all four at once, hence the hostage situation would be quite dangerous.
The robber leader, Adel Owen, wants to retrieve the two hundred thousand US Dollars in payment, doesn't he?
Then let's have Enco Dumate contact him, agree to pay the ransom, and simultaneously ransom the little girl.
From my experience, the robber leader won't trade in his own den; he's bound to go somewhere else.
At that time, we can separate the robbers and can set up an ambush at the ransom hand-over location in advance, reducing the difficulty in rescuing the hostage."
Reid considered for a moment, "The plan is good, just afraid it might be detected by the robbers, backfire."
Luke said, "Didn't we catch a robber, Rider Kramer? Let him make the call together with Enco Dumate, greatly reducing the robbers' suspicions."
The deputy team agreed, "Good idea.
Reid, don't hesitate; delaying for a minute increases the child's risk; those bastards could do anything."
Reid said, "OK, I'll contact the SWAT team, you guys prepare. During the call, avoid exposing any flaws."
The deputy team replied, "We're keeping an eye, nothing will go wrong."
Soon, Luke, the deputy team, and David gathered to discuss how to communicate with the robbers, how to minimize the chance of arousing their suspicion while breaking up their power as much as possible.
Once everything was prepared, the group came to a parked ambulance, the gunshot wound of robber Rider Kramer had already been treated, and to ensure no anomalies would be detected during the call, the nurse even gave him painkillers.
Luke personally reminded robber Rider Kramer thoroughly, then the call to robber leader Adel Owen's phone was made by him.
Moments later, the phone was connected, and Rider Kramer said, "Boss, Enco Dumate, that bastard, is back, you guessed right, indeed that guy has money."
A deep voice sounded from the other side of the phone, "Did you get the money?"
"That guy wants to talk to you."
"Hand the phone to him."
Enco Dumate took the phone, took a deep breath, "Adel, sorry for not giving you the money on time.
I wasn't trying to default; indeed some issues arose.
I've now got the money back, planning to bring it to you."
"Good, as long as you provide the money, everything's negotiable, I'm a businessman, also don't want to resort to violence. You hand the money to Rider Kramer, let him bring it back."
"I need to see my daughter, won't hand over any money until I see her."
Adel Owen chuckled coldly, "Is that a threat?"
"No, I'm pleading with you, not to harm my daughter.
You return her to me, I give you the money, it's very fair."
"Hehe," Adel Owen chuckled, "Ok, your daughter is cute, I never intended to harm her.
