Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 458: Harvest

Luke walked up to the female gunner holding an AK47. She was a white woman, and the bullet hit the left side of her forehead, slicing off half her scalp, a single headshot.

Although she was already dead, Luke habitually moved the AK47 far away.

Walker also came over, standing not far from Marlon Bax, checking his injuries.

Marlon Bax had been shot in the chest, blood pooled on the ground, he was no longer breathing.

As for the bulletproof vest on Marlon Bax's body, it had long been stripped off and was now worn by Walker. "This female gunner is really ruthless, she even killed her own accomplice."

Luke also came over, looking at Marlon Bax lying on the ground, indifferently saying, "These two are both psychopaths, it's hard to think about them with normal reasoning."

Walker asked, "What do you think we should do now?"

Luke surveyed the surroundings, hearing no noise, his gaze turned to the cave, "Let's see if there are any other victims or accomplices of the suspect."

Walker understood, "Good idea."

The two still dared not let their guard down. Luke changed to a new magazine, and Walker took out a revolver.

The two entered the cave one after another, one on the left and the other on the right, to search.

At this time, the sky was still not fully bright, and they needed flashlights to see the situation inside the cave clearly.

The cave covered an area of about 1500 square feet, it was a natural cavern.

Outside the cave entrance were many miscellaneous items, on the right was the living area, on the left the rest area, further inside looked like a storage room.

Luke and Walker split up to search.

Luke walked directly into the storage room, thinking the treasure was more likely hidden here, of course, first they had to ensure the cave's safety.

He roughly searched through the place, not finding anyone else in the cave, Luke continued to look for the whereabouts of the treasure.

The storage room was filled with various guns, including shotguns, AR-15s, Glock pistols, submachine guns, and some equipment needed for exploration, such as climbing picks, strong flashlights, camping stoves, drones, etc.

Luke searched carefully but found no clues about the treasure in the storage room.

Did Marlon Bax lie? He didn't find the treasure; it was just to lure him here to have the female accomplice take him out.

No, that gold pocket watch should be one of Forest Finn's treasures.

Suddenly, Walker's voice echoed in the cave, "Luke, come over here."

Luke left the storage room, saw Walker bending over, pulling a wooden chest out from under the bed, which was very similar to the one they dug out at Big Bear Lake last time, only this chest was bigger and seemed heavier.

Luke rubbed his hands, his face showing an expectant expression.

Walker also chuckled, seemed a bit excited, "This chest doesn't even have a lock, these two bastards are really trusting."

The wooden chest did have a lock; it was just broken and could only hang there. Walker reached out to open the chest but was stopped by Luke, "Step back a bit, let me do it."

Walker frowned slightly, "You're worried there's danger in the chest?"

"Unlikely, but a little caution never hurt anyone."

Walker nodded, going along with the advice, taking a few steps back.

Luke gently removed the lock hanging on the wooden chest, slowly opened the chest lid, his eyes peeking through the gap to observe the situation inside.

Walker illuminated the area with a flashlight from the side.

The lid of the wooden chest opened slowly, Luke didn't find anything unusual, the flashlight's beam shone into the chest, lighting up the items inside, golden and shiny.

Luke, looking at a chest full of gold ornaments, couldn't help but smile, turned to ask Walker beside him, "Is this the scene you were expecting?"

Walker laughed, "Of course, even though it's not the first time seeing it, it's still exhilarating, that's the charm of treasure hunting adventures."

Luke said, "We're lucky, it would be perfect without the two bodies outside."

Walker grabbed a handful of gold ornaments from the chest, checked the quality, then put them back, smiled, "In a way, we should thank them. Without them, we wouldn't have found these treasures."

Luke didn't want to thank the two psychopathic killers, waved his hand, "Come on, let's lift the chest onto the pickup truck and take it back to our RV, that's the real safety."

"You're right." Walker moved to the cave entrance, looked outside without noticing anything unusual, then together with Luke, lifted the chest out.

Passing by the two bodies, Walker asked, "What about these two bodies? Just leave them here?"

Luke moved the chest into the back of the pickup truck cabin, securing it, said, "It won't do to just leave them here; there are many wild animals in the canyon. In less than half a day, they'll be dragged away by coyotes, probably not even leaving bits of bone."

Luke took out his phone, took pictures of the shooting scene, then moved the two bodies into the cave and took pictures again.

This was the residence of two psychopathic killers; they didn't just kill people, they surely killed many wild animals too. In a short time, coyotes probably wouldn't dare to come close, but of course, as time went on, it was uncertain.

After settling the matter, the two drove their pickup truck back to the RV camp, placing the treasure chest in the RV, their hearts then settled.

The sky outside had fully brightened.

To avoid trouble, the two checked their stories against each other, the treasure was dug up by them, unrelated to the two psychopathic killers.
