Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 387: The Murderer

Inspector Henry said, "We received information from an informant that the suspect with the red Honda might be living here.

Since we can't be sure of the authenticity of the clue, I personally brought some people to check it out.

Since Captain Li is also following the case here, this corroboration should mean the clue is real."

Li Lang smiled, not bothering to mention the matter of the deceased's partner, Timo Jensen, possibly withholding information, considering it a perplexing issue.

"Inspector Henry, how was the deceased Jens Hauley's behavior at the police department? What's your view on his death?"

Henry Joseph sighed, "Jens Hauley was an excellent officer, diligent in his work, experienced, and had good relations with his colleagues. I feel very sorry about his death."

Luke pursued, "Did he offend anyone in his line of work?"

Henry Joseph glanced at Luke, "Captain Li, you're an officer too, you should know that in our line of work, is it even possible not to offend people?"

Luke asked, "Among the criminals Jens Hauley apprehended, was there anyone with clear tendencies for revenge or anyone recently released from prison?"

Henry Joseph thought for a moment, "I'll have to check to know for sure."

"Then I'll await your message." Luke handed over a business card and looked at the house in front, "Have you captured Salma Gonzalez?"

Henry Joseph shook his head, "There's no one in the house."

Luke nodded, then walked into the house to inspect. Upon entering the living room, he saw Timo Jensen searching the house.

Luke ignored him and began his search.

The house was a gray-roofed bungalow with two bedrooms, two living rooms, and two bathrooms, a bit messy, especially the dining and living rooms, with some leftover food.

The clothes and items in the house were both men's and women's, indicating a couple lived here.

Soon after, the technical team also arrived on the scene to examine any possible clues left within the house.

However, Luke didn't hold much hope because several patrol officers had already entered, even if there were clues left, they might have been damaged.

Though the suspect wasn't found, the trip wasn't entirely fruitless, at least Luke identified the female suspect as Salma Gonzalez.

This woman is likely the only one who has seen the murderer.

If she can be found, the investigation might see a new breakthrough...

Subsequently, the police began investigating based on Salma Gonzalez's details.

Salma Gonzalez is of Mexican descent, her father also resides in Los Angeles.

The following morning.

Luke invited Salma Gonzalez's father to the Robbery and Murder Department to take a statement.

Salma Gonzalez's father wasn't very old, appearing to be only in his forties, still in his prime, with calloused hands and slightly dark skin.

Luke gave a brief introduction and invited him into the conference room for a talk.

Luke asked, "Is Salma Gonzalez your daughter?"

"Yes, I'm Santu Gonzalez."

Luke took out a screenshot from Officer Jens Hauley's body camera, "Is this her?"

Santu Gonzalez picked up the screenshot photo, his hands trembling slightly, "Yes, what happened to my daughter? Why are you investigating her?"

Luke didn't answer directly, instead, he asked, "How's your relationship with your daughter?"

"It's pretty good."

"Have you been in contact recently?"

"Yes, she called me a couple of days ago, and she was doing fine then..."

"Do you know why we asked you to come?"

"Didn't you say my daughter is involved in a criminal case, and you need my assistance for the investigation?

Where is my daughter now? Can I see her?"

"We're also looking for your daughter Salma Gonzalez, we suspect she might be in danger now."

Santu Gonzalez appeared anxious, "What danger is she in? Please go save her."

"We want to save her too, but we don't know where she is, nor do we understand the suspect's identity who might be with her. We asked you here to understand more about her situation."

"What exactly happened? My daughter has always been obedient, how could she be involved in a criminal case? Can you explain the situation so I know how to help you?" Santu Gonzalez wrung his hands, looking rather serious.

Luke stared at him, sensing some wariness, possibly not fully trusting his words, or that he had been in touch with Salma Gonzalez.

Luke briefly explained the case situation.

Santu Gonzalez's face changed dramatically upon hearing, "The person murdered was a police officer?"

"Yes."

Santu Gonzalez realized the gravity of the situation, took a deep breath, "Captain Li, I understand my daughter, she might be a bit headstrong but she's not a criminal, and couldn't have been involved in plotting against a police officer."

Luke followed up, "We've looked into Salma's situation as well. To be honest, I also don't believe she was involved in plotting against an officer.

But the problem is we can't find her, as long as she remains out of sight and doesn't clarify things, we can't prove her innocence.

We brought you here today to find out her whereabouts."

Santu Gonzalez glanced at Luke, his expression somewhat complex.

Luke sensed he probably knew something, at least withholding some information, and persuaded, "I've investigated a kidnapping case where the kidnapped was a young woman around twenty years old named Millie, still in university, with parents in the finance industry and well-off family conditions.
