Lord: Sequence Master

Chapter 13: Consuming the Potion, Becoming a Hunter

Every time Rosen left the mysterious study, he walked for just three minutes before immediately returning through the door. By alternating short bursts of movement with quick returns, he gave no chance for the criminal hunter, Bennett, to use the Bloodline Compass to track him down.

After repeating this pattern for half an hour, Rosen finally arrived at the Blazing Shadow Trading House.

It was still open, so Rosen discreetly left the mysterious study and entered the trading house, ensuring that no one noticed him.

The shopkeeper, a Sequence 9 from the Sorcerer Sequence, was known for expertise in creating magical items. At the moment, he was watching a large, old-fashioned TV—similar to the bulky models from Earth, though the picture quality was surprisingly clear. The film playing had been directed by an artist from the Sequence's film division.

"What do you need?" the shopkeeper asked, not bothering to look away from the screen.

"A set of materials for a Sequence 9 Hunter potion," Rosen replied immediately.

The shopkeeper swiped his hand across the counter, and from his storage bracelet, a full set of materials for the Sequence 9 Hunter potion appeared. Each material was stored in a separate container, housed in a transparent glass case with a clear price tag of one hundred gold coins.

Rosen placed one hundred gold cards on the counter. The shopkeeper gave the cards a casual glance before placing ten coins on the counter as change.

The difference in exchange rates reflected the higher value of Rosen's high-purity gold. Eight grams of pure gold could mint a single coin, with the remaining two grams being other materials. So, ten grams of pure gold equated to roughly 1.1 gold coins.

Rosen pocketed the coins, grabbed the glass case, and quickly left, slipping into a nearby alley before returning to the mysterious study with a sigh of relief.

Seated on the sofa, Rosen carefully placed the glass case on the coffee table and opened it, revealing eight distinct materials.

Every potion required a core material, supported by eight auxiliary ingredients.

In fact, the auxiliary ingredients were the key to brewing the potion, while the core material determined the Sequence path.

Since the World Government could now mass-produce Sequence 9 to Sequence 7 potion resources, brewing these potions had become almost foolproof. As long as one followed the instructions precisely, success was virtually guaranteed.

[Instructions: Dissolve 100 grams of buffalo horn from an animal that lived for twenty years in 500 grams of distilled water. Boil to 61°C, then add 10 grams of gray wolf tooth powder, stirring clockwise three times. Increase the temperature to 65°C, then add the two eyeballs of a Mandrake Serpent...]

Following the instructions meticulously, Rosen completed each step, taking care to avoid mistakes.

The potion set included one-time-use equipment, and within ten minutes, Rosen had brewed a half-finished Sequence 9 Hunter potion. All that remained was to add the core material to finalize it.

To become a Gem Hunter, he would need a gemstone. To become a Criminal Hunter, he'd need a prisoner's eyeball.

For a Bounty Hunter, an ordinary human eyeball would suffice.

A Wealth Hunter, he could simply drop a gold coin into the mixture.

Rosen, however, had decided to become a Treasure Hunter. This required him to sacrifice the most precious item he owned—something smaller than his fist. For Rosen, that was the necklace around his neck, the only thing left with him when he was abandoned at an orphanage in his previous life.

But just as he was about to drop the necklace into the potion, a bolt of golden lightning shot out from the Main God computer.

The lightning struck the potion, instantly completing the brewing process. The half-finished liquid solidified into a thumb-sized crystal in the shape of a diamond, glowing with a golden hue. Startled, Rosen paused.

Although the potion had been completed unusually, the source was clearly the Main God computer.

After a brief hesitation, Rosen picked up the crystal and swallowed it.

The moment it touched his tongue, the crystal dissolved and flowed down his throat. Instead of following the usual digestive process, the potion spread throughout his body, triggering a transformation. The change culminated in his heart, where his new Hunter Sequence's extraordinary essence condensed.

Rosen felt the essence inside his heart, shaped like a small, golden card. "So, this is the extraordinary essence of the Hunter Sequence," he thought, using his spiritual senses to perceive it. As he connected with it, his innate ability became clear.

His Hunter Sequence's innate ability at Sequence 9 was none other than Nen from the Hunter X Hunter world.

[Nen Ability LV1: The power to manipulate life energy (aura), combining it with spiritual energy to generate and control Nen.]

Rosen extended his hand, and a thread of aura formed at his fingertips.

The aura took the shape of numbers, then morphed into a sketched portrait—all under Rosen's precise control. This level of manipulation was something the protagonist of Hunter X Hunter, Gon Freecss, couldn't achieve, even after long-term training.

Yet, Rosen had crafted a detailed portrait with his aura in moments—highlighting an enormous gap in skill.

This didn't mean Rosen had more natural talent than Gon. The key difference lay in the infusion of spiritual energy, which made manipulating Nen far easier. However, spiritual energy was consumed in the process. Once depleted, Rosen's Nen manipulation would regress to that of a beginner.

Nen abilities in Hunter X Hunter were divided into six categories: Enhancement, Emission, Manipulation, Transmutation, Conjuration, and Specialization.

Enhancement boosted physical strength and defense, similar to Armament Haki from the One Piece world.

Emission allowed the user to project Nen energy, which could be developed into space-altering abilities like teleportation or object substitution.

Transmutation changed the properties of aura into elements like fire or lightning, enabling techniques similar to Naruto's ninjutsu.

Manipulation granted control over objects or people by infusing them with Nen. Conjuration materialized physical objects or abstract concepts like space, endowing them with unique properties.

Specialization encompassed mysterious abilities that didn't fit the other categories.

Rosen grabbed a kettle, poured water into a cup, and placed a leaf from a nearby plant into the water. He then infused the cup with a small amount of aura. Instantly, the water and leaf disappeared.

Rosen's pre-reincarnation research into Hunter X Hunter had paid off. The Water Divination test was a basic method of identifying one's Nen affinities.

The water hadn't increased, its taste hadn't changed, it hadn't crystallized, the color remained the same, and the leaf hadn't moved. This confirmed that Rosen's natural affinity was Specialization.

A Specialization affinity meant he would excel at developing abilities in that category.

His second-best affinities were Manipulation and Conjuration, where he could reach 80% of his potential. With Emission and Transmutation, he'd reach 60% strength. Lastly, his Enhancement ability would cap at 40%.

Curious, Rosen repeated the Water Divination test, this time infusing his aura with spiritual energy.

This time, the water reacted. The volume increased, spilling over and crystallizing. The color changed, and the leaf moved. The water became sweet, and then the water floated into the air, transforming into a card.

This meant that when spiritual energy combined with his Nen, he gained equal proficiency across all six categories.

Rosen could already envision the powerful Nen abilities he could develop.

However, this didn't mean he was immediately as strong as the greatest Nen users from Hunter X Hunter. His potential was still bound by his current level of spiritual energy.

To grow stronger, he would need to consume higher Sequence potions and advance further in his Sequence.
