Chapter 145: The Battle Of Great Plains (2)
Hours later, as the fleet soared above the vast continent, a chill wind cut through the air. Lugh stepped forward, pointing beyond the horizon. "There."
The battlefield revealed itself.
Below, the Great Plains of Runburm were drowned in chaos. An endless tide of hollows surged like a black ocean, their twisted forms clawing and shrieking as they crashed against the radiant walls of Atlas Sky-City. The ground was littered with shattered stone, burning wreckage, and rivers of corrupted flesh. Each hollow carried Azathoth's taint, their roars blending into a monstrous chorus that blotted out the natural sound of the world.
Above that nightmare storm floated DIVA, a citadel suspended in the sky by massive crystal pillars glowing with holy radiance. Its runes flared desperately as cannons fired streaks of light into the swarming horde, yet the sheer number of enemies was beyond reckoning.
"By the gods…" Rudos muttered, his knuckles whitening on the railing. "That is no army… that is annihilation made flesh."
Irina gasped as she clutched her weapon, trembling. Felix's usual calm drained into stress, he bit his lip hard enough to draw blood.
Venus's emerald eyes hardened. "So this is Azathoth's power. Ryu will you be fine?"
Ryyzen assured her with a smile. "Don't worry. I am certain we will be victorious."
But in truth, even he was uncertain of future.
Noah's voice rang out, grim but resolute. "Blood Legion! This is where we carve our name into history. Prepare to descend! Let Runburm bear witness to the day we turned the tide against oblivion itself!"
The fleet adjusted its formation, cannons primed and ready. The sky trembled under the might of the Legion's advance, and the soldiers, once filled with doubt, now felt the fire of destiny burning in their chests.
The skies of Runburm shook as the Blood Legion's airships descended into attack formation. Their hulls glowed with runic arrays, each one pulsing like the heartbeat of a god. The soldiers inside braced themselves, hands gripping weapons as the horns of war echoed.
"Open fire!" Noah roared.
A storm of cannon fire rained from above. Lances of molten energy tore through the swarming hollows, each shot detonating in explosions that turned hundreds into dust and gore. The plain below became a sea of fire and shadows, but even so, the tide did not falter. For every hollow obliterated, a dozen more clawed their way from rifts in the earth, shrieking their devotion to Azathoth.
Aurora's command followed immediately. "Release the Valkyrie Wings!"
Dozens of sleek, spear-wielding units launched themselves from the ships, wings of light blazing behind them. They dove straight into the hollow tide like comets, piercing abominations in streaks of brilliance. The battlefield roared with the clash of steel, magic, and monsters.
But the enemy's retaliation was swift.
From the abyssal army, colossal hollows emerged, towering creatures with jagged armor of obsidian and faces twisted in eternal agony.
They hurled boulders of corrupted flesh skyward, smashing against the lower decks of airships.
"Boom!" One vessel was struck, flames erupting across its side as soldiers screamed.
"Brace that ship! Hold the formation!" Mikael bellowed, his voice steady even amid the chaos.
Ryuzen stood silently on the forward deck, his golden slit eyes narrowing as he scanned the battlefield. The sheer endlessness of the hollows pressed down on his chest like a physical weight. Even with all this firepower, the black tide surged endlessly, blotting out the plains like a living nightmare.
Aurora clenched her fists, her emerald eyes glowing faintly. "This is no war. It's slaughter. If we falter even for a moment, Atlas will fall. And if Atlas falls, our loved ones will fall too."
Noah gave a sharp nod. "Then we do not falter. Blood Legion, prepare for ground deployment! Strike teams, descend now!"
The sky lit up as hatches opened across the fleet. Thousands of ropes, runic lifts, and teleport circles deployed, and soldiers began pouring down into the battlefield below. Red banners snapped in the wind as the legion struck the ground in coordinated waves, forming tight formations amidst the sea of monsters.
The clash had truly begun. The Blood Legion's arrival shook Runburm to its core, and yet, the shadow of Azathoth loomed greater still.
---
"Boom, boom, boom!"
The Blood Legion struck the ground like a tidal wave of steel and fire. Shields clashed, spells thundered, and the plain quaked beneath the endless clash of man and hollow.
Ryuzen leapt from the airship, landing with a tremor that split the soil beneath his boots. Venus landed beside him, the ground cracking from the force, her emerald aura swirling like a storm. Felix, Rudos, and Irina followed, each drawing their weapons with grim determination.
The first wave of hollows rushed them immediately, shrieking in a chorus of madness.
Rudos swung his great axe in a wide arc, cleaving three apart with sheer brute strength. "Hah! I'll cut you all down before you touch our captain!" he roared, his eyes burning with fervor.
Felix stayed closer to the rear, blood bubling at his fingertips as he unleashed a barrage of skills. Bolts of blood ripped through the air, exploding hollow skulls into charred fragments. His face was pale, but his focus sharp.
"Don't get overwhelmed! Their numbers will swallow us if we spread out too far!"
Irina fought like a phantom, her clones flashing silver blades as they danced through the monsters. Each strike was precise, carving tendons, severing limbs, piercing hearts. Though she looked calm, her eyes never strayed from Ryuzen, drawing strength from his presence.
Ryuzen himself was a tempest. He summoned draconic energy into his blade, each swing shattering lines of hollows like dry twigs. With every strike, golden flames licked from his body, scorching the earth. The monsters howled in pain, but more surged to replace them.
Venus slammed her palms to the ground. The earth buckled and rose in jagged spires, skewering a dozen hollows at once. She followed with a crushing stomp that sent shockwaves outward, scattering the horde. Her emerald hair whipped wildly, her aura fierce and commanding.
"Stay together!" Ryuzen barked, his golden eyes flashing. "The tide is endless, but so long as we move as one, we carve a path forward!"
From above, the commanders watched, eyes narrowing. Aurora's lips curved into a sharp smile. "They fight like demons even without revealing their dragon forms… impressive."
But Mikael frowned. "Impressive won't be enough if Azathoth's generals descend. We need to push harder, or we'll be buried."
On the battlefield, the hollows pressed closer, their numbers blotting out the horizon. Black waves of teeth and claws clawed at the Blood Legion lines, dragging soldiers into the darkness. Even with their might, Ryuzen's party was being encircled.
