Volume 6 Chapter 17: Thing That Need To Be Done
Volume 6 Chapter 17: Thing That Need To Be Done
(Walson)
The facilities in Chuck's workshop are very rudimentary, with nothing but that custom-made iron forge.
From the dust piled up in the workshop, it can be seen that it hasn't been used for a long time. Some areas have less dust, and combined with the metal pipes on the walls showing signs of damage, it seems that some large machinery used to be placed here, but has since been dismantled.
Chuck summed up clearly what I needed to do: 'I hope you can make a [Steam Motion Armor] that can win the [Martial Arts Competition] that is going to happen in the [God Pulse Festival] next month.'
"Next month!? But I haven't even learned how to make one yet!? And what's this [Martial Arts Competition]!?"
"Also, you can't use the [Thermodynamic Core] to make the [Steam Motion Armor]." Chuck ignored my complaints and continued to specify his requirements.
So, what exactly is this [Thermodynamic Core]!? I don't know any of this! I've only heard that it's something like a battery that fuels the [Steam Motion Armor], like the Arc Reactor of Iron Man suits, but without detailed information, it's hard to say if I can avoid using it.
"I know the deadline is short, but if you can do it, whatever you want from me, as long as I can give it, I can give it to you."
"Uh, wait a minute, you're royalty, right? Do you know what the significance of that promise is!?" I stared at him wide-eyed.
"I do. As long as you can really do it, I'll always be your friend," Chuck nodded solemnly.
"I thought we were already friends." I rolled my eyes at him. "I'll do my best, but don't you want to tell me first what I need to make a [Steam Motion Armor]? What is its basic structure? The principles of how it works? You can't just grab someone with no foundation and tell him to make a custom made item."
Anyway, if I fail and some big problem comes up, I can just run away using Grace Enderman teleportation.
Upon hearing this, Chuck didn't say anything more. He simply pulled down a wrench from the wall and activated a switch. A door creaked open, revealing a room filled with dusty books.
...
...
Three days passed just like that.
Honestly, I've thought about many ways to impart knowledge to someone in a fantasy world in a short time.
But it still comes down to the old ways of studying from my past life, just read the goddamn book.
This brings me back to my earlier part of life as a student.
But still, Chuck, isn't this simply too irresponsible!? Didn't you invite me here to make a custom made [Steam Motion Armor]!? At least take some time to organize a briefing for me to explain more on practically everything!?
I'm going in blind god damn it!
Chuck only stayed on the first day to help me answer some questions from the books, and then, like those incompetent teachers from my previous life, left me alone to study all by myself.
Still, I can somewhat understand his position, after all, he's the fourth heir to the throne of this country, and after years of wandering outside, he's finally returned, with undoubtedly a mountain of matters to attend to.
Although it's different from what I initially expected, Chuck didn't involve me in the political turmoil and instead simply tasked me with building a machine. He didn't drag me into any strange events, which, to be honest, isn't bad at all.
— If he didn't insist that the thing I make must be named.
At least he left me with plenty of materials and taught me how to use this strange furnace, although I basically don't need it.
This thing, in simple terms, is a more advanced iron forge, but my own Minecraft furnace can completely replace it in function.
During these few days, I finally gained a deeper understanding of the [Thermodynamic Core], which was mentioned several times before. It made me sigh at the lies spread by this country.
The rumor outside is this: "The [Thermodynamic Core] is the core of a [Steam Motion Armor], with strict manufacturing conditions. Besides requiring a specific temperature for it to be made, it also needs multiple dwarves to simultaneously use their [Metalforge Manipulation] to produce a single [Thermodynamic Core]."
In reality, only one "Noble Dwarf" is needed to produce the [Thermodynamic Core]. Moreover, that "Noble Dwarf" can imbue the [Thermodynamic Core] with different properties according to their own Class. For example, the [Azure Queen] that I met before with Chuck, is able to freeze her enemies using the steam that comes out of her [Steam Motion Armor] due to it being made by a [Glacial Mage].
This is so freaking magical. In other words, regardless of your Class, you can wear a [Steam Motion Armor]!
But this isn't surprising. For these dwarves, the [Steam Motion Armor] isn't a high class Mecha; it's their equipment, just like the plate armor and leather armor outside, it's an extension of their bodies!
Oh, but rumors aren't entirely false. Firstly, the manufacturing conditions for the [Thermodynamic Core] are indeed strict. Besides alloys of different metals, there's one thing that's indispensable: the [Sacred Mountain Soil].
What's [Sacred Mountain Soil]? In this underground world, there's a sun of its own, and beneath that sun lies a stalactite volcano. The lava-deposited soil on the stalactite volcano is the [Sacred Mountain Soil].
The Dwarf race's god - that sun, supposedly sheds "sacred tears" every day, which drip into that stalactite volcano. The so-called [Sacred Mountain Soil] is formed in this way.
—Um, so the key material is actually a mixture of God secretions and soil!? Maybe I shouldn't put it that way; it feels weird.
After reading through this information, I know that the power source of the [Steam Motion Armor] is water and the [Thermodynamic Core]. I think the water is used to provide steam, while the lava-deposited soil containing the [Sacred Mountain Soil], is used to provide heat.
Thinking about it, it's troublesome. It's one thing to ask me to build one, but to also hope that I don't use the [Thermodynamic Core]... What should I do...
It's 10:30 in the evening, and outside is still the unchanging purple sun shining.
I rubbed my forehead and set down the book in my hand, sighing deeply. This is really giving me a headache.
"Walson, what's up?" Derisha said.
Right now, I'm sitting on a bench with Derisha resting her head on my lap. She's been dozing off since just now, seemingly awakened by my recent movements.
"Sorry for disturbing your nap, Your Highness. Would you like to go inside the room and sleep?" I smiled and reached out to stroke Derisha's silvery hair.
"Don't— Don't tease me like that. I didn't wake up because of you," Derisha pouted, a little embarrassed.
Oh, this is really cute. It's rare to see Derisha pouting like this; it almost melts my heart.
"Derisha, I really like you," I said, perhaps influenced by the atmosphere.
"Eeeeehhh!? Wait, did you just confess to me!? Oh, oh my goodness—" Derisha's reaction is similar to Melon's, but it's even more panicked.
"I feel like I owe each of you a confession," I said, "...And if you are going to ask me out, this is my answer, yes."
Derisha covers her face with both hands, turning over and burying her entire face in my stomach.
"Hey, we're both wearing bracelets now. It's not a big deal to say something like that, right?"
"N-No, it's just, I never thought that a day would come when a man would actually say they like me..." Derisha's voice sounds muffled because her face is buried in my stomach.
Hmm, I really am a failure. I should have said these words earlier.
...But since Derisha is also my fiancée now, it means we'll eventually move on to marriage.
Derisha is a princess, and I'm a commoner... Well... at least I should give her a decent wedding. In that case, I can't maintain the same attitude of awe towards the upper class as before. I need to upgrade my standing.
Yes, not just Derisha, but also Barella, Grace, and Melon, they're all good girls deserving of a good wedding.
Hmmm.... let's start with making the [Steam Motion Armor] in front of me and told Chuck to be my supporter.
