Legendary Shelter Survival Guide

Chapter 326: Construction (1)

The whole night, everyone partied together, eating so much that it became tough to even walk. But unlike the others, Lucas stayed vigilant and didn't eat as much.

Someone had to remain prepared for tough times, and because of his restraint, everyone ended up having more fun than usual.

Lucas demonstrated how the teleportation circles worked, using them to move cooked food from one place to another. The only limitation was that the larger the object being teleported, the more mana it consumed, which forced him to recharge the small circles several times.

When it was time for everyone to sleep, Lucas assigned the big new hut outside the shelter to John and Ella. Being the oldest, they deserved the hut first.

While there was no furniture in the hut yet, they made do by sleeping on a sheet spread on the ground, as usual.

The morning arrived quickly, and Lucas began the day with a walk to the canal. Since the day he had spotted the unusual fish, there had been no further signs of it.

Lucas spent the entire morning practicing with the circles to improve his proficiency. After half a day of prior training, he understood that progress would be slow and might even take a few days to reach the level he was aiming for.

'This should be enough,' he thought, severing the connection between all the teleportation circles.

'Now, I just need to start working on the furniture for each hut and the shelter, and I'll need to visit the Lesser Treant again.'

"Haley is calling you for breakfast, Lucas," a voice came from nearby.

Lucas glanced toward his elongated shadow, where a head bobbed out.

"You're not joining for breakfast?"

"No, I'll survey the territory for a while and then grind for some levels," Bill's head responded from outside the shadow, his body still hidden within. He then vanished inside the shadow without an answer again.

Although Lucas wanted to keep working without eating, he decided to return. There was more to do than just teleport small objects around.

After a usual breakfast and giving Sean a lesson on Runesmithing, Lucas began crafting the first set of furniture.

"Alright, do I go fancy or just make it functional?" he wondered aloud.

'But first, I need to gather resources. Back when I was a master craftsman, every resource imaginable was at my disposal in my warehouse, now I have to get them on my own...'

Lucas felt a pang of nostalgia, longing for the life he had in the town. But he knew it wouldn't be possible without significant changes in the territory.

Building the basics of a thriving settlement and bringing in more people was the priority for the long term. Though Lucas was on the right track, he recognized it would take time to achieve.

He ventured outside the shelter's defenses and, after examining several trees, he finally stopped at one. Lucas tapped it with his fist at various spots, a smile forming on his face.

'This is the one,' he thought, taking a few steps back.

The tree stood at four meters tall, its girth substantial enough to provide a good amount of resources in one go.

"Alright, I'll use this one. Hmm, the Tools needed are an axe to fell it, a hatchet and drawknife for the branches and bark, and a saw… which I don't have. So, I'll need a mallet and some wedges," Lucas mentally noted.

After scavenging around the canal and shelter, he found a rock and a sturdy branch. He processed the rock using a stone surface, sharpening it with precise techniques, almost as if he were honing a metal blade.

The screeching sounds drew the attention of some group members, but upon seeing Lucas working alone, they left him undisturbed.

Once the rock was sharpened into an axe head, Lucas inserted it into a hole he carved in the branch. In just twenty minutes, the axe was ready.

"Having status screens again is nice," Lucas thought with a smile. In the quest world, there had been no status screens for a while, and he had relied on alchemical and rune-crafted machines to determine item grades.

Without further delay, Lucas took the axe and aligned it with the base of the tree trunk.

THWACK!

The first strike, delivered with precision and force, embedded the axe several inches into the trunk. He withdrew it and struck again in the same spot.

The rhythmic sounds of disciplined, controlled strikes echoed through the forest.

Lucas worked tirelessly, carving a large triangular cut at the base of the tree. With additional precise cuts in the corners of the triangle, the tree began to wobble. Finally, after a few more strikes, it started to fall. Your journey continues on My Virtual Library Empire

Lucas stepped back, watching as the tree descended exactly where he had calculated.

THUMP!

The sound of the tree hitting the ground reverberated through the area, drawing almost everyone from the shelter.

There, just a few meters from the shelter, Lucas stood with a stone axe in hand, facing the massive fallen tree.

It was the first significant tree felled by the group in their territory, and everyone felt a surge of pride. Progress was finally taking shape.

"That was so good!" Sean exclaimed, briskly approaching the felled tree with astonishment. Everyone else followed, equally amazed.

"I must say, Lucas," John began, his tone filled with delight as he gazed at the massive tree. "This is the first big tree to be felled near the shelter. I don't think you remember, but we usually go for smaller trees with thin branches because they are more accessible."

"I remember, Uncle John," Lucas replied with a nod. "But it's time we made more progress. It takes countless small trees to achieve something significant, but just one of these can nearly complete entire projects."

"But how are you going to process it? The tree looks so sturdy," Sarah muttered as she stepped up beside Lucas.

Their eyes met, and they exchanged an affectionate smile.

"I have a whole process"
