Chapter 249: Undead ritual (3)

Lucas took a few steps back, it was an instinctual act.

His mark burned up suddenly and he gritted his teeth to suppress it.

'It's acting up again, but why?'

Lucas looked at the woman in front of him, his perceptive eyes activated and that was when he saw so much dark energy getting out of Sandra and going inside the wolf's dead body.

'Is this energy trying to get me berserk?' Lucas asked himself again, he was on his knees now and he gritted his teeth to try to close off his mind from those murderous thoughts.

They were the anchor, if Lucas got rid of those thoughts, then the mark had no power over him. But controlling one's emotions was a difficult task for a person like Lucas who didn't even know how to perform common yoga.

The air around the forest became sinister and it seemed to go dark even though it was daytime.

Lucas's eyes were on Sandra who had gone silent with her arms stiff as if she was applying force on them.

In only a few moments that for Lucas felt like minutes, Sandra became somewhat normal and the air around became calm.

The dimness in the atmosphere was gone now.

Before Lucas could say anything with spite, he heard a groan that he knew couldn't come from Sandra, it was a voice that was too crude.

The voice that Lucas could achieve if he didn't drink water for days and then kept screaming for hours.

"A-Are you okay?"

Lucas heard the timid voice from the front.

"I am okay… You seem to be the one who is exhausted."

"Haha… all my mana is gone, the fatigue is fucking killing me."

Sandra too fell on her knees and Lucas made his way to her.

"WHA-!"

Only to instinctively step back again, something had attacked him at a high speed.

Lucas had forgotten to realize one thing... that the dead wolf had vanished from the circle.

Lucas looked in the front and saw a creature that looked normal when observed from only the outside but within Lucas, there was a meter.

He knew the life energy when he saw it due to his many skills stacking including herbalism and perceptive eyes.

Yet in front of him, the creature was no way alive. It was halfway behind Sandra who was on her knees and its front legs were toward Lucas while it growled.

It seemed to protect Sandra who was very exhausted, even her hands were on the ground while her back went up and down from heavy breathing.

"… What is the meaning of this, Sandra?" Lucas asked with an annoyed tone, he took out both his swords and pointed them to the dead wolf.

"Sit" Sandra muttered and when she did, the dead wolf instantly sat down with its two paws in the front just like anyone in the cat family.

She looked back at Lucas who still had his swords out, they were pointed toward the creature whose eyes were still on Lucas.

"Haha… I was trying its strength on you, looks like it got good speed."

"No shit, if not for my experience In fighting, fucker would have taken a good chunk off my neck."

"Hey hey~ that's my mutt you are talking about~ Language please." Sandra had fallen on the creature's back with her hands hanging down.

The creature had no reaction to it while it stared daggers at Lucas.

Those eyes looked way too creepy, Lucas knew Sandra had put a finger in those sockets.

Yet there were still eyes in those sockets and they were pitch grey in color making them the first set of greyish eyes Lucas had ever seen.

Lucas came close to them, his swords still out. The creature seemed to move his head anywhere Lucas went confirming that it was wary of him.

"Seems like you are successful huh."

"Yes, although it took a toll on my mind." Sandra was caressing the undead's fur while she was on its back.

"Will it attack me again?"

"Depends, do you want it to attack you?"

"Is that a thing you have to even ask? Of course, tell it to attack me."

"Yeah but don't kill or hurt it, I have no way of fixing it after it dies again."

"Oh man, really? I was hoping you could fix it again and again while I keep fighting it."

"The summoning of the undead is permanent, it will always stay with me for as long as I want. But if it gets hurt, then the healing is very slow and if it dies, then I can't bring it back at all."

"So that soul you see in the air, is it inside that undead now?"

There was silence after that question.

'Something's wrong.' Lucas thought when he saw Sandra averting her gaze as If embarrassed.

"… That's not the case at all…"

"Then what is the case?"

"First, promise that you won't tell anyone about it."

"I won't"

She seemed to still be reluctant yet Lucas wanted to know, he gave so much of his time to this and now he was engrossed, he needed to know.

"… The soul is still there roaming above the body." She said while pointing toward the air.

Lucas's eyebrow arched, he did not understand the situation at all.

"The fury is still dead… its soul is roaming, I am just using the body with my undead summoning magic. The soul is so confused Lucas… it's trying to get inside its own body again and again, but it can't, I don't have the skill level to attach the soul to the body too."

Lucas saw her hold back tears from coming out of her eyes, she was looking in the air while her eyes moved along with something that Lucas could not see.

Just for a trial, he activated his perceptive eyes yet nothing happened. He couldn't see anything as close to a ghost.

"Sarah… you don't have to feel bad about it, from what I understood, the soul will still move with this undead, right? But it can't enter the body, yet."

"… Yes"

"Then you have nothing to worry about! It's a good thing!" Lucas exclaimed with a chuckle.

"Hah?" a frown formed on her face, it seemed she did not agree with Lucas one bit.
