Legendary FBI Detective

Chapter 581: Interrogation, Doubts, Profiler

The next day, Thursday morning, in a temporarily borrowed interrogation room in New York Long Island, an elderly white man in a suit with a slicked-back hairdo sat emotionless behind the interrogation table, staring at Luo An and said:

"Listen, Mr. FBI, I didn't kill anyone. The murderer isn't me. I'm not the killer, OK?"

Looking at Professor Marins, who seemed proper on the surface, Luo An smiled as he picked up his coffee and took a sip, saying:

"Such words coming from a pedophile's mouth don't seem very credible."

"I am not a pedophile!"

As if the word were a switch, Professor Marins became instantly enraged upon hearing it, slamming his fists on the interrogation table as he shouted:

"This is slander! This is libel! I'm going to sue you!"

"It doesn't matter, suit yourself."

Luo An grinned and took a folder from Reesi next to him and said unhurriedly:

"According to our investigation, in the 13 years since you became a professor, you have written college recommendation letters for 16 girls and 4 boys."

"Is there a problem?"

Professor Marins's face changed slightly, but he still spoke in a very assertive tone:

"They are all good kids who are good at learning. I just provided some help within my capabilities. Is there a problem?"

"Don't paint yourself as spotless as a white lotus, Mr. Marins."

Luo An closed the folder with a cold laugh:

"Since we're starting to ask you about these things, do you think we don't have anything in our hands?"

Yesterday afternoon, Luo An and Reesi successfully arrived at Professor Marins's house but were turned away without even entering the gate under the pretense of "No Search Warrant."

Reesi was very angry at the time, but Luo An stopped her with his hand and walked away and then led Unit 13's agents to thoroughly investigate the deeds of Professor Marins over the years and talked to some of the young men and women he had sent to colleges with his recommendation letters.

A few of the young men and women had been severely brainwashed by Professor Marins, always believing it to be a "consensual" transaction.

But some older ones who had entered society understood the true implication behind those acts.

They were soon persuaded by Luo An, Chenier, Reesi, and others, indicating their willingness to testify in court.

"..."

Watching the folder pushed in front of him, Marins's face gradually reddened. Luo An chuckled and said:

"Mr. Marins, need me to introduce you to how pedophiles are treated in prison?"

"I said, I'm not a pedophile!"

Professor Marins became even more furious, and Reesi sneered:

"These people were all minors at the time. You deceived them with recommendation letters and had relationships with them. If not a pedophile, then what are you?"

"I am..."

Professor Marins's muscles tensed, and after opening and closing his mouth for a while, his eyes suddenly lit up, saying:

"I'm not a pedophile; I'm just a minor-attracted person!"

"..."x2

Hearing the words that Marins had spoken, Reesi's face grew even colder, and Luo Luo'an smirked:

"As expected of a professor, so quick to create a special term for himself."

Marins was about to speak, but Luo An cut him off, saying coldly:

"Mr. Marins, what kind of person you are doesn't need to be argued here. The jury, the judge, and the inmates in the prison will have their own judgment.

Let's focus on Hannah's case. According to the investigation, not long after her disappearance and death, you left the university she was at for another college. Isn't that a bit too coincidental?"

"I..."

Professor Marins opened his mouth, fell silent for a long while, and said seriously:

"Listen, Mr. Agent and Ms. Agent, I do know some clues about Hannah's disappearance and murder.

But I really didn't kill her, and I truly am not a pedophile."

Luo An ignored Marins's latter remarks and directly asked:

"What clues do you know?"

Professor Marins spread his hands:

"I demand a plea bargain."

"Then just sit here."

Reesi scoffed, and Luo An stood up from his chair:

"I'll have someone send you to detention shortly."

"Wait a minute! Wait a minute!"

Professor Marins hurriedly waved his hand and said,

"We can talk!"

"There's nothing to talk about, Mr. Marins."

Luo An picked up the coffee cup on the table, drained it with a tilt of his head, and coldly looked at Marins, saying,

"Two choices, one, you say nothing and I'll have someone send you to a temporary detention prison right now. Two, tell us all the clues you know."

"..."

Luo An and Marins locked eyes for a moment, Marins broke the gaze first, bowing his head and saying,

"Four months ago, Hannah took the initiative to contact me, asking me to go out to dinner after work.

When I arrived at the restaurant entrance, I found Hannah sitting in a car, chatting with a man.

I originally wanted to give Hannah a call to ask if she had arrived and to subtly probe the situation, but Hannah beat me to it and called me first, saying she had something come up and we would have dinner another day.

Before I could answer, Hannah hung up the phone, and then that man drove off with her from the restaurant."

As for the real reason Professor Marins transferred schools later, it was actually because he used letters of recommendation to lure and deceive others. This was discovered by someone on the university's board, and thus he was forced out of that university.

After Marins finished recounting his tale, Reesi's brow was furrowed with concern, while Luo An's expression remained unchanged. He took out a photo of the fugitive Bloom from his pocket and asked,

"Is the man you saw him?"

Marins took the photo, looked at it, and nodded firmly,

"Yes! That's him!"

With Marins' affirmative answer, Reesi's mind was filled with more doubts. She couldn't understand why Hannah would get into Bloom's car, why she would leave with him.

Luo An asked for the specific time of that night, as well as the name and location of the restaurant, then got up, leading Reesi out of the interrogation room.

Entering the office area, Luo An handed over the interrogation record to Mona, saying,

"Mona, this is the last recorded sighting of Hannah before her disappearance and death.

Look into the surveillance near the restaurant and see if you can find out where that car went afterwards."

"OK, leave it to me."

Mona nodded vigorously in agreement and turned to her desk to start typing.

At the same time, Michelle arrived with a white female who wore an FBI-style suit, was shorter than Luo An by a head, wore a ponytail, had a round face, and looked to be in her thirties.

"This is Group Leader Luo An of the Thirteenth Investigation Team."

Luo An shook hands with the newcomer, while Michelle introduced them saying,

"Leader, this is a professional profiler from Behavioral Analysis, Annie Mori."

"Hello, Ms. Mori."

"Just call me Annie."

Annie's round face revealed a smile as she said,

"I've long heard of the Thirteenth Investigation Team's Group Leader Luo An, who is both handsome and good at solving cases. It's finally a pleasure to meet you today."

"That's too kind of you."

Luo An smiled back. After exchanging handshakes and a few pleasantries, Luo An steered the conversation towards business, asking,

"Annie, what's your take on the two serial killings?"

"As far as profiling is concerned, the more information you investigate, the more specific I can get."

Annie smiled and said,

"I've already given my judgment on the first series of killings.

But for the second series, I'm sorry, you've got too few clues in your hands for me to make an accurate judgment."

"That's understandable."

Luo An nodded and turned to Michelle, asking,

"How are Winslow and Chenier doing with their investigation?"

"We are back!"

Just at that moment, Winslow and Chenier, who were responsible for investigating the information of the 8 victims involved in the second series of shootings, each walked into the office carrying two large boxes and smiled,

"Right on time."

"Good job."

Luo An patted Winslow and Chenier on their shoulders, and they all walked into the meeting room together. Just then, Mona came over with her laptop,

"Luo An, I've found a suspicious car."
