Legendary FBI Detective

Chapter 580: Good Girl Hannah, Investigation, Profile

"Oh, God..."

In an apartment within a community in East New York, a white woman in her forties, dressed in dark brown attire, was slumped on the sofa, sobbing.

The woman was the mother of the college student Hannah, named Imilia.

Upon learning that her daughter had been murdered, her emotions instantly collapsed. Reesi hurriedly sat beside her, softly comforting her, while Luo An brought her a glass of water, whispering:

"Sorry, please accept my condolences."

"Who's the killer?!"

No sooner had Luo An finished speaking than Hannah's mother Imilia's eyes turned crimson red as she lifted her head, her voice fierce:

"Have you caught that person? Why did he do this? That damn bastard..."

"Sorry, Ms. Imilia, we haven't found the killer yet."

Luo An shook his head, speaking softly:

"We've come here to ask you about some clues..."

"You haven't found the killer?"

Imilia interrupted Luo An before he could finish speaking, her voice loud and interrogative:

"Four months have gone by! You still haven't caught the killer?!

I've approached you many times before! Every time you said you were investigating, investigating! Now my daughter is dead! You actually..."

The apartment was cozily arranged, and Imilia herself had a gentle demeanor, but now, knowing of her daughter's death, she could no longer suppress the rage in her heart.

"Ms. Imilia, please accept my condolences."

Luo An did not get angry but simply handed her the glass of water, quietly explaining:

"We're the FBI; this case wasn't under our jurisdiction before.

I understand your feelings, but please try to control your emotions. After all, our current priority is to find the murderer of your daughter, is it not?"

"FBI..."

Upon hearing Luo An's words, Imilia hesitated, only then realizing that the people in front of her weren't New York Police.

"I'm sorry."

After musing for a while, Imilia took a piece of tissue to wipe away her tears, muttering a few curses at the NYPD. She then apologized to Luo An and Reesi while choking back sobs:

"I just..."

"We understand."

Luo An didn't waste any more words and directly asked:

"Did Hannah ever mention to you that someone had threatened or stalked her before she passed away?"

"No."

Imilia shook her head, and Reesi continued to ask:

"Did Hannah have any feuds with anyone?"

"No, Hannah was a good girl."

Imilia continued shaking her head, then thought for a moment and added:

"But she once mentioned to me that she was dating a man who was a bit older than her."

"An older man?"

Hearing this, Luo An gave Reesi a look, and Reesi quickly took out another photograph of the deceased Bloom from her pocket, asking:

"Was it this man?"

"I don't know, Hannah didn't tell me much."

Imilia still shook her head and said:

"I've never seen this man, who is he? Is he a suspect?"

"No, he's related to another case we're investigating."

After asking a few more questions and determining that no useful information would be gleaned, Luo An and Reesi left Imilia's apartment.

The two got into the SUV, and not long after it started moving, Luo An's phone suddenly rang with a text message alert.

Reesi casually asked:

"What's going on?"

"It's the autopsy report for Bloom and Hannah."

Luo An read the message while explaining:

"The forensic pathology department performed an autopsy on the two of them first. The results show that the cause of death for both Bloom and Hannah was indeed a blow to the back of the head with a rod-like object, and their times of death were the same.

Additionally, there were no signs of violent penetration on Hannah's lower body."

Reesi sighed in slight relief, then frowned and said:

"So, Hannah and Bloom were both killed by being hit with a rod-like object and then thrown into the ocean... Who could hold such a grudge against the two of them?"

"I don't know, but we could go talk to Hannah's classmates."

The traffic light turned green, and Luo An put away his phone and started the car, saying:

"Maybe Hannah's friends might know who she was dating."

The SUV sped along, and soon they arrived at a university in New York and found Hannah's roommate.

When the girl with blond bob hair, large round glasses, clutching her books, named Alice, learned of Luo An and Reesi's reason for coming, her face tensed up, and she nervously glanced around.

Reesi silently walked over to Alice and whispered:

"Alice, telling the truth is very important to us."

After a long silence, Alice looked up at Luo An, and upon seeing this, Luo An immediately turned and walked away.

With Luo An moving away, Alice breathed a sigh of relief and whispered:

"Hannah had been dating Professor Marins.

It was Professor Marins who helped her get into this university."

Reesi understood the first part but was puzzled by the last sentence:

"What do you mean Professor Marins helped her?"

Alice's head was almost buried in her chest as her voice dropped even lower:

"It was Professor Marins who wrote the recommendation letter for Hannah.

You know, Hannah's family is not well-off; she couldn't have gotten into this university without a recommendation letter."

Reesi's face changed, and she immediately thought of something, asking in a low voice:

"Are you implying that Hannah was involved with that Professor Marins while she was still in high school and underage?"

Alice was silent for a few seconds, then slightly nodded and added:

"Professor Marins goes to some high schools every year to give lectures and free classes."

"Damn it!"

Enraged at the idea that Professor Marins used recommendation letters to lure and coerce underage girls into relationships with him, Reesi exploded with fury.

Luo An was equally grim when he learned about this, asking:

"Where is this Professor Marins now?"

"He's already left this university."

Alice replied:

"It seems he left due to some disputes with the university over scientific issues."

Reesi's eyebrows shot up, Luo An continued asking:

"When did he leave?"

"About four months ago."

After Alice left, Luo An and Reesi quickly obtained Professor Marins's current university and residence from the university's administration.

Inside the SUV, Reesi sat in the passenger seat, looking at the photo of the white professor in a suit and with a slicked-back hairdo, cursing loudly:

"What a damn bastard!"

Luo An didn't say much, just silently sped up the car.

Midway through the trip, Reesi's phone rang. Pressing the answer button, Michelle's voice came through:

"The experts sent from the Behavioral Analysis Unit have completed the offender profiling sketch for the first serial killer case.

As for the second serial killer case, due to insufficient data, the profiling sketch can't be generated yet."

"Good."

Luo An, who was driving, also heard Michelle's voice and said:

"Give me a brief summary."

"OK."

Michelle picked up the folder and read:

"The Behavioral Analysis Unit believes that the perpetrator of the 'Form Worker Serial Killer Case' should have the following characteristics:

First, a white male, aged approximately between 30-45 years.

Considering that the first case happened over a decade ago, the suspect should now be around 40-55 years old.

Second, the suspect is married or has a girlfriend and is highly educated.

Third, he's economically stable, possessing a second vehicle besides one for daily commute to work.

Fourth, psychological or emotional state, long-term suppression..."

Michelle listed several traits in succession; Luo An's eyes gradually narrowed, while Reesi's expression grew stranger with each feature mentioned.

After Michelle finished, Reesi looked at Luo An and whispered:

"Luo An, didn't Emily just say earlier that Professor Marins is around 57 years old this year?"

Luo An turned the steering wheel, steering the SUV onto another road, saying:

"I just saw the university record; Professor Marins is precisely 57 years old this year."

Reesi swallowed hard and asked:

"So, do you think, this Professor Marins could be…?"

"The probability is low."

Luo An shook his head and before Reesi could continue, parked the SUV by the curb, and said:

"We're at Professor Marins's house; we can have a good talk with him."
