Legendary FBI Detective

Chapter 570: The Truth of the Case

Villa basement.

Successfully found the target individual, but Luo An's expression was far from good.

Because at the moment, Hamid-Hogan was lying on the ground with his eyes closed, two bloody gunshot wounds on his chest, his clothes already soaked with blood.

"Damn it."

He cursed softly, and it wasn't hard for Luo An to guess the situation at the scene. It was likely that the black mercenaries' mastermind, upon hearing about the villa being attacked, out of spite and some other reasons, ordered his men to shoot and silence Hamid-Hogan.

Frowning, he reached out to feel Hamid-Hogan's neck and, after waiting a few seconds, discovered a faint heartbeat. Luo An opened the system interface, took out a bottle of [Hemostatic Potion], and poured it into the man's mouth.

The [Hemostatic Potion] took effect quickly, and seeing that the wound on Hamid-Hogan's chest stopped bleeding, Luo An set him aside for the time being and walked over to a computer nearby.

Not much later, the fight upstairs ended, and Winslow, Reesi, and Chenier walked into the basement following Luo An's guidance. Seeing Hamid-Hogan lying in a pool of blood, their expressions also turned grim immediately.

"Stop gawking and call an ambulance to take him away."

Luo An gestured for the three to not waste time and continued:

"Clean up the battlefield. Also, contact Michelle and tell her that there's no need to investigate the identities of this group of black mercenaries."

"OK."

Winslow nodded, taking people to contact the ambulance, while Reesi and Chenier asked somewhat puzzledly:

"No need to investigate? Why?"

"Because I've already found out."

Luo An raised the laptop in his hand and said:

"These men, they all come from Chad."

The next day, 9 a.m., Western Federal Nevada, a well-known hospital in Wellington City.

Walking down the corridor, Reesi's face was filled with surprise as she talked:

"To be honest, I really didn't expect Hamid-Hogan to survive."

"The doctor said that the two bullets didn't hit the heart and there wasn't much bleeding. With timely medical intervention, he was successfully saved."

Chenier shook her head beside her and replied:

"However, saving him wasn't without cost. The doctors removed half of Hamid-Hogan's lungs, and considering he is already 46 years old, it's likely after this incident he will end up in prison..."

"Tsksksks."

Upon hearing this, Reesi immediately smacked her lips and pulled out her phone to make a call:

"Luo An, it's me, Reesi.

Hamid-Hogan has been revived, currently still in the ICU and unable to be questioned for the time being."

"I know."

In a temporary office of the Las Vegas FBI branch, Luo An looked at Michelle, who was organizing the computer nearby, and smiled:

"It's okay if he can't be interrogated for now. We're not short on time."

After the call ended, Winslow handed another phone to Luo An, and Luo An took the phone and asked with a smile:

"How did it go?"

"Everything went smoothly, of course!"

The voice on the other end of the phone was one Luo An was very familiar with; it was Supervisor Elmer from the IRS-CI, laughing as he said:

"You guessed right, the funds did go through Europe, but they indeed originated in Africa, to be precise, from Chad."

The Chad Republic, a landlocked country in central Africa, bordered by Libya in the north, Sudan in the east, Central African Republic in the south, Cameroon and Nigeria to the southwest, and Niger to the west, with its capital and largest city being N'Djamena.

In recent history, the political situation of the African countries has always been very chaotic, with leaders changing every now and then as a common occurrence.

The reasons for these nation's changes in leadership are varied, some are due to intervention by major powers, some because the leaders are simply unfit, others arise from severe ethnic strife or religious disputes leading to internal conflicts.

Many countries on the African continent possess one or two of the elements mentioned above

But Chad is unique, it combines all four BUFFs (reasons for political unrest), successfully creating an incredibly bizarre political landscape where warfare has never ceased since its independence.

"OK, thank you."

"It's nothing, we'll have a drink together later."

"No problem, I'll treat you then."

After a brief exchange of pleasantries with Supervisor Elmer, Luo An hung up the phone. As soon as Winslow saw this, he immediately leaned in and said:

"So, the owner of the 300 million dollars is actually a warlord from Chad?

Hamid Hogan failed in his investments and, out of fear of retaliation, resorted to kidnapping Councilman Shemor and President Lucille, with the aim of extorting money from them?"

"No."

Just as Luo An was about to speak, Michelle, who was beside the computer, voiced her disagreement and shook her head:

"Winslow, you've got it wrong."

"Where was I wrong?"

Michelle turned the computer Luo An found on the scene towards him, explaining:

"I found something here. On the surface, Hamid Hogan is a real estate businessman, but his company's first fund came from Africa.

In other words, Hamid Hogan acts like a private banker, managing money on behalf of some African warlords."

Luo An narrowed his eyes slightly and continued from what Michelle said:

"Then he ensures that the funds are safe and can be withdrawn by the warlords at any time, taking only a small commission for himself, right?"

"That's correct."

Michelle nodded and continued:

"Those 300 million dollars weren't Hamid Hogan's investment but were embezzled by him behind that warlord's back.

Somehow, that warlord found out and sent people to hold Hamid Hogan under house arrest in the Federal Nevada, demanding that Hamid Hogan must return the money or else his entire family would be killed."

"Wow."

Winslow thought for a moment and then asked:

"So, the people who killed Councilman Shemor and President Lucille, were they sent by Hamid Hogan or by that warlord?"

"It wasn't me!"

A week later, Hamid Hogan was transferred to a regular ward. Hearing Luo An's question, Hamid Hogan, pale-faced and gasping after speaking, hurriedly explained:

"I didn't kill anyone, it wasn't me!"

"Don't panic, take it slow."

Luo An handed a cup of water to Hamid Hogan with a chuckle and said:

"We have all the time in the world."

Hamid Hogan, pale, took a deep breath and after a long rest, admitted that he had embezzled the 300 million dollars behind the warlord's back.

Then, Hamid Hogan revealed that after finding out the true locations for the business and tourist districts, he immediately realized he had been deceived.

The gap of 300 million dollars was too significant, and after long consideration, Hamid Hogan finally decided to kidnap a female journalist and a male model who had relationships with Councilman Shemor and President Lucille, using them as leverage for negotiations.

But unexpectedly, this was quickly exposed and soon known to that warlord.

"He's a madman!"

Hamid Hogan rasped:

"Just after I had arranged for the return of the female journalist and male model, that madman's men found me and killed them in front of me.

The next day, those men went on to kidnap Shemor Krista and Lucille Krista.

My original plan was to negotiate with them, have them pay for the land, not intending to kill them.

But those of the madman's men started torturing the two right after bringing them back, ignoring my protests and killing them, and then demanded that I return the 300 million dollars no matter what!

Damn it! Those #%&*..."

Hamid Hogan was one to stick to rules; he intended only to take money, not lives, but the warlord wanted both revenge and the money, thus ordered the killing of Councilman Shemor and President Lucille to vent his fury.

As for how to get the money back, that was Hamid Hogan's problem.

After listening to Hamid Hogan's account, Winslow, Chenier, and Reesi looked at each other, while Luo An remained unfazed—it was the only constant knowledge about Africa Region that there was no constant knowledge. Thus, he finally asked:

"What's the name of that warlord?"

"Charli Bagimi!"

Half an hour later, Luo An stood in an empty room in the hospital, summarizing the case to Mr. Clement over the phone.

Having handed off the problematic situation for the higher-ups to consider, and now that the case was solved, Luo An was ready to have a brief chat with Rister Krista about that sponsorship matter.

At that moment, Reesi knocked and walked in, her expression strange:

"Luo An, we've found the cross and the ruby ring."
