Chapter 565: Clues, Investigation, Luo An's Analysis, Reesi's Discovery
"The female journalist has also disappeared?!"
At 5:30 in the afternoon, in a temporary office of the FBI branch in Las Vegas, everyone present was surprised to hear what Michelle had said.
Luo An thought for a moment and asked:
"What's the situation with her disappearance case?"
"The files from the Las Vegas police show..."
Michelle tapped on the keyboard a few times, and after a while pulled up a case file, replying:
"A few days ago, Igilia left her office as usual after work, but didn't go to work the next day.
When her boss at the news agency noticed this, he called her, but no one answered.
Someone was sent to her home to look for her, only to find it empty, and after failing to contact her multiple times, they finally called the police."
Reesi immediately followed up with a question:
"Did the police find any clues? What are the investigation results?"
"Um..."
Michelle scrolled down on her computer screen, and after a brief silence, answered:
"No clues, no investigation results."
"What?"
Chenier and Winslow widened their eyes upon hearing this and Reesi quickly asked:
"What do you mean 'none'?"
"Just 'none'."
Michelle's expression wasn't very good as she explained:
"Journalist Igilia's parents are in Europe; she lives alone in the federation, without relatives, her relations with colleagues are just average, and she doesn't really have friends.
Moreover, federal law stipulates that adults cannot be reported missing if they have been out of contact only briefly, so when the police received the report, they just made a simple visit and left.
It was only after dozens of hours passed the stipulated time that the police officially opened a missing person case.
But still, no investigation was conducted because the Las Vegas police are short-staffed, and they have other higher-priority cases to deal with, such as homicides, shootings, etc., so this missing person case was temporarily put aside."
...
After Michelle finished, the atmosphere in the office quieted down. After pondering for a few seconds, Luo An bent to review the details on the file regarding Igilia's disappearance, furrowed his brow, and said:
"Everyone, the time of journalist Igilia's disappearance coincides with the time of Paul, the male model's disappearance, which was the day before Councilman Shemor and President Lucille went missing.
This coincidence seems a bit too coincidental."
"Is there a possibility that..."
After thinking for a moment, Reesi said:
"The female journalist and the male model could have been sent by someone to make contact with Councilman Shemor and President Lucille. Now that their tasks are complete, they have shed their aliases and left."
"You should watch more romance movies and fewer spy films when you go on dates."
Luo An picked up a folder and gently tapped Reesi on the head, then looked at the other agents with a serious expression and said:
"Everyone, journalist Igilia had a connection with Councilman Shemor; male model Paul had a connection with President Lucille.
Now both have disappeared at the same time; there's definitely something wrong here. Next, we will focus on these two disappearance cases and see what exactly is being hidden."
"Understood!"
"No problem!"
All the agents nodded in unison, and Luo An continued with his orders:
"Winslow, Reesi, you two go to journalist Igilia's residence, talk to her neighbors, colleagues, and bring back any nearby surveillance footage.
Michelle, Chenier, you two are responsible for the same tasks regarding the male model Paul."
"OK!"
The agents nodded in response, grabbed their weapons and equipment, and quickly left.
Luo An stayed in the office, gathering the information on Councilman Shemor and President Lucille's disappearances that had been collected earlier, and started examining it carefully once again.
The night quickly passed, and the next day, Luo An called Mona while washing up in the hotel:
"Good morning, Mona, how are you feeling?"
"I'm recovering well, no more stomach pain."
"Great," Mona chuckled from her villa in Washington D.C.:
"By the way, how is the case going over there? Do you need my help?"
"No, you just focus on getting better."
Interrupting Mona's idea to come to Las Vegas to help, Luo An continued to ask:
"Has everything been normal at the villa these past few days?"
"Everything's been normal, no unexpected situations."
Mona replied with a slightly odd tone:
"Except for Caroline."
"What's wrong with her?"
"Nowadays, she insists on drinking more than ten cups of hot water every day and forces me to drink with her, making me run to the bathroom like crazy."
"..."
After advising Caroline to cut down on the hot water, Luo An made small talk with Mona for a bit, and then hung up.
When Luo An reached the temporary office he was borrowing, Michelle, Winslow, and Chenier were all sitting at their respective spots, having breakfast.
Chenier took a bite of her chicken roll and asked casually as she didn't see Reesi:
"Where's Reesi?"
Luo An wiped his mouth and replied:
"I asked her to check on something, she'll be back soon."
"OK."
After hearing Luo An's response, Chenier didn't ask further, picked up her coffee to take a few sips, and waited for everyone to finish breakfast and take a short rest. Luo An then steered the conversation to the main topic:
"How did the investigation go for everyone? Any clues?"
"No."
The team investigating the male model Paul, which comprised Michelle and Chenier, shook their heads:
"According to the investigation, Paul disappeared on his way back to the apartment that President Lucille bought for him after leaving the gym.
The Las Vegas police received a report and quickly found the car Paul was driving in a parking lot on the way.
However, there were no surveillance cameras in that parking lot, and no one else's fingerprints were found in the car Paul drove.
We spoke to some people but didn't get any useful information."
"OK."
Luo An kept his composure; the person in question had been missing for so many days, it was very normal not to find any clues in a short period of time; he was mentally prepared for this.
He switched his gaze to Winslow, who stood up and said:
"With regards to the female journalist Igilia, we didn't get any leads from surveillance either.
Reesi and I continued to visit and inquire with her neighbors, who expressed their dislike for Igilia, saying she was noisy when doing certain things, which adversely affected the lives of others.
Apart from that, there were no useful clues."
"..."
Michelle and Chenier both looked speechless; Luo An massaged his temples in frustration and after pondering for a few seconds, walked to his desk and said:
"I'll discuss the situation I've discovered."
Winslow, Michelle, and Chenier dutifully set themselves, and Luo An, picking up a folder, said in a grave voice:
"I've been thinking about why both Councilman Shemor and President Lucille disappeared, rather than just one of them.
If only Councilman Shemor had disappeared, we could have focused more on political issues.
If it were only President Lucille who was missing, business issues would be more likely to be the cause."
"But they are siblings."
Winslow showed confusion:
"Couldn't the mastermind be targeting the Krista family?"
"That possibility cannot be excluded, but there's one issue that doesn't make sense."
Luo An did not deny Winslow's question, merely answering:
"If the mastermind is targeting the Krista family, then the Krista family's businesses would not be as calm as they are now, and Rister Krista wouldn't have the mood to discuss wedding matters with Rekasha O'Dell."
Winslow thought for a few seconds, nodding; Michelle felt what Luo An said made a lot of sense, and Chenier, after thinking it through, asked:
"Luo An, are you suggesting that the mastermind was only targeting Councilman Shemor and President Lucille?"
"I just think this possibility is bigger. After all, this case also involves a missing female journalist and a missing male model."
Luo An raised the folder in his hand and continued:
"So, yesterday I specifically reviewed the connections between Councilman Shemor and President Lucille apart from their sibling relationship.
And then I found some very interesting things."
On hearing Luo An's words, Winslow, Chenier, and Michelle immediately concentrated, sitting up straight.
Just at that moment, Luo An's phone suddenly rang. He pressed the answer key, and Reesi's excited voice came from the phone:
"Luo An! I found a clue regarding the guy who targeted the female journalist Igilia!"
