Chapter 121: The Tribal Chief
Kael was looking forward to the duel between Kiona and the blue ogre since he felt there wasn't much difference between the two of them power-wise.
Yes, he didn't think Kiona was any weaker than a C-Rank Ogre. He had trained with her and was confident that she could defeat an average C-Rank Beast.
Now, the only question was whether this Ogre was average or among the better ones.
However, just as the duel started, he frowned and looked up into the sky, where he could feel a powerful presence approaching them rapidly.
"He's here," Rias commented casually. "I guess we won't be able to see her full strength today."
Kael nodded and said, "If he attacks Kiona…"
Before he could even finish, she added, "Then he's dead."
Kael smiled and didn't say anything more.
Just as the two warriors were about to clash, something crashed between them, raising dust and ashes, but it only took a second for everything to return to normal.
Silence engulfed the area as every pair of eyes were glued to the spot where the two warriors were supposed to fight.
An old Ogre with long grey hair on his red skin was standing between the two warriors, holding their hands back with just a single finger. Even his expression was relaxed, as if stopping two such warriors was so easy.
The Ogre was taller than any humanoid being Kael had encountered—and that was considering the fact that Kael was very tall himself.
The crimson fire burning in his single eye, aside from his normal ones, matched his skin color. A single jagged, proud horn protruding from his forehead showed his majesty.
On his body, he wore war armor that covered most of him, and it looked majestic. His sheer presence screamed at others to kneel before him.
Of course, Kael and his family didn't feel that way.
All of the Ogres instantly slapped their chests hard and shouted, "We Acknowledge The Tribal Chief!!"
Callisto, the Tribal Chief of the Ashfall Ogre Tribe, nodded at the others and turned towards the Blue Ogre champion. He spoke in his commanding, aging voice, "Back down!"
The Champion didn't hesitate and instantly backed away, "Yes, My Tribal Chief!"
Kiona also backed away after realizing the identity of this tall ogre. She already had a clue, because the threat she felt from his body was immense.
She could feel that if he really wanted, he could have crushed her so easily that she wouldn't even realize what happened to her.
He was that powerful.
But she wasn't really worried, so she stood her ground confidently. She was here representing her Master, so there was no way she would let these colored-skinned Ogres look down on him.
Callisto glanced at Kael and Rias as a strange glint passed through his eyes, before he turned towards the Ogre crowd that had formed to witness the beatdown of the intruders and also to provide help if needed.
"I will deal with the situation myself, so go back to your homes and duties." Callisto was speaking calmly, but there was a strange pressure in his voice. "They wanted to meet me, and they have already earned that right."
"But they didn't defeat me yet," the blue ogre asked in confusion.
"They haven't even sent their most powerful person on their side," Callisto said. "They can defeat you easily."
The Blue Ogre was not convinced, but the Tribal Chief had already spoken, so there was nothing he could do about it.
"Chief, I'm not trying to be rude, but two of them are human. Are you sure we should even allow them to talk with us?" one of the Ogres pointed at Kael and Rias.
Other Ogres were also in agreement. One of the reasons they felt so hostile against the invaders was because they were humans, and there was no Beast Race that didn't hate humans.
Every single one of them wanted to bring humanity down to their knees. That's how deep their hatred was—so how could these Ogres allow humans to enter their home?
"They aren't humans," Callisto didn't bother explaining and began to walk away, leaving that single sentence behind.
Most of the younger Ogres didn't understand what their Tribal Chief meant, but the older generation understood and forced the younger generation to shut up. But even they were feeling incredibly shocked, and the way they looked at Rias and Kael also changed.
Even the Blue Ogre had his eyes widened in disbelief as he finally understood why his Tribal Chief said he was no match for these "humans."
No one knew why, but the human physique was the best according to nature, as every evolution included turning every race closer to humans in appearance.
The more humanoid a being—aside from a human—was, the higher their Evolution Stage would be. It was common knowledge that everyone knew.
Both Rias and Kael looked no different than humans, which meant they were at a much higher Evolution Stage. They almost couldn't believe it.
Kael saw through their thoughts and decided to put on a show since the Tribal Chief himself was allowing him to do that.
His smile disappeared as he put up a finger from his crossed hands, and his suppressed aura of the Legendary Dragon erupted in waves.
It was invisible, but everyone could feel it. Every single Ogre in the Ashfall Mountains felt the aura, and their knees almost buckled.
A look of reverence formed in their eyes along with fear. They could feel their bloodline getting suppressed by this man's presence.
No human could affect their bloodline, no matter how strong they were, which meant that these two human-looking beings were really not humans.
They were something much more terrifying.
Most of the Ogres felt fear and a feeling of reverence creeping inside them, as their bloodline itself was telling them of the superiority of this being.
Kael was a Dragon, which already put him amongst the top races—and as if that wasn't enough, he was also the First Legendary Dragon.
He was at a much higher Evolution Stage than any of the Ogres here, so how could they not feel such feelings?
But he was still very weak, so C-Rank and above were able to resist the pressure from him. But even they were a bit intimidated by it.
"That's enough. Disperse!" Callisto commanded, and all the Ogres slammed their chests again and left. Before leaving, they continued to give side glances at Kael and Rias.
Callisto then focused his attention on Kael and said, "So, it really is you. I wasn't mistaken."
"I guess you sensed something in me?" Kael asked, but he was already sure of it.
"Yes. We'll talk at my place," Callisto said calmly, but his eyes were scanning the two of them with so much curiosity burning in them.
But much more than that, Kael noticed hope in his eyes, which confused him, so he decided to probe as they began following him to his place.
It wasn't like he could do anything to them anyways.
"I'm surprised you have to explain so much to everyone," Kael said casually.
"Sometimes it's necessary, and sometimes… time just changes," Callisto said.
'Looks like he also knows something is wrong with that guy.' Kael thought as he exchanged a look with Rias, who had also come to the same conclusion.
Kael didn't speak to him afterwards and simply called his family to accompany him. Callisto didn't seem to mind it, as he allowed them to come too.
Callisto walked in front, leading the way to his place, while Kiona, Rias, and Kael silently followed him. Accompanying them were the two majestic lions who walked behind them with powerful auras oozing out of them.
They didn't even bother concealing it.
[Master… my duel was interrupted!!]
Kael's lips curled up upon hearing Kiona complaining in their connected voice chat. But her expression had no change whatsoever, which would make one wonder if her voice was just an illusion.
'You should have just challenged the Tribal Chief himself then if you wanted a fight so much. Actually, I'm now looking forward to it.'
[Master really wants me to get beaten up, huh. Are you forgetting that even you aren't sure of beating him?]
Indeed, Kael wasn't confident in fighting this old Ogre who had ruled over the Ashfall Mountains for decades—or perhaps centuries.
The most he could say was that he could probably trade some blows with him. That was his limit, and if he didn't have Rias with him, he wouldn't have even entered this place.
"We are here!"
Callisto said, stopping in front of an open hall made by carving into the mountain. It was closest to the peak of the mountain, so the view there was really beautiful—especially since it was morning time.
All of them took their seats, and an Ogre lady quickly served wine and then left them alone.
Kael stirred the wine in his hand and asked the most important question, "What do you know about me, and why are you so curious about us?"
