Chapter 8: Chapter 8
The next day, Zhi Hua mentioned at the table when they were having their form of breakfast that he had noticed the soldiers in charge of the scavenging team had been giving him hostile gazes since the incident, he was starting to feel unsafe. The police officer frowned then suggested he follow behind him secretly which 'calmed' him down. He told Min that she should wait for him infront of the building in the center if she really wants to help him in a whisper so that only two of them would hear.
He set off with the scavenging team. He already noticed the soldiers giving him malicious smiles so when one of them called him out to a secluded place, he was not nervous but excited. Zhi Hua knew that he should be scared considering the fact he was just a normal person that is about to go to a dangerous place but in the contrary his blood seems to be pumping. Zhi Hua felt that their was a huge thrill to be in a novel and scheme against the characters in it. For someone who was an otaku then his greatest joy was to scheme against others like all the characters he has read.
As expected, Zhi Hua felt a piece at the back of his head then his vision became dark. He groggily woke up some time later strapped to a cold metal table. I shook myself awake then looked down to the leather straps holding me to the table. I tugged at it fiercely but I just ended with a bruised wrist so I turned my attention to the cage opposite me which was filled with zombies who were rattling the cage stretching their hands at my direction. Zhi Hua blinked at them then lay down straight on the table again waiting for someone to come in, he could hear that their was chaos outside and guessed that the police officer was at work. He heard footsteps coming in a hurry and hoped it wasn't the police officer and his wish was granted as the soldier who brought him here, came in and started destroying the lab then he came to Zhi Hua who was pretending to be unconscious and released him.
Just as the soldier reached for his gun, he suddenly felt something metal at his forehead. He looked up to see Zhi Hua smiling at him with a gun pressed to his forehead.
"Thank you for releasing me" Zhi Hua said with an even bigger smile but it just made him look creepy.
"Wait, I can help alright. Look I'm from the outside" the soldier said scared. Zhi Hua frowned that it had to be a player, but it was okay since his face was still covered up thankfully. He must have brought him here for something else but the police officer interrupted.
"I don't really care what that means but if you're useful then I might let you go" Zhi Hua said coming down from the table.
"I'll do anything boss" he said saluting. Zhi Hua examined him and felt that he wasn't lying. I deliberately pretended like I didn't understand what he said because I'm just an NPC.
"Testify infront of everyone who was responsible" Zhi Hua said
"Leave it to me, I was already gathering evidence" he said patting his chest. Zhi Hua muttered in his heart that he was gathering evidence to steal the main storyline so what's with this righteous attitude.
"So you aren't working with them"Zhi Hua asked feigning confusion. He sneered at him in his heart, good guy I'll deal with you after.
"I swear on my life" he said
"Ah, then sorry for the mistake" Zhi Hua said removing the gun from his head and pointed it at him from afar while his other hand scratched his head as if he was embarrassed.
"I thought you believed me" the soldier said, he was just about to sigh in relief then this stinky brat aimed it at him again
"I do, it's just that I like playing with guns" Zhi Hua said casually while waving the gun around. The soldier almost had a heart attack because of how loosely Zhi Hua's hand was on the trigger.
"Why don't I lead you out" the soldier said almost in tears. He just wants to get rid of this brat.
"Ah right. But what about those guys" Zhi Hua said pointing at the zombies in the cage. The soldier turned to where his hand was pointing and his heart almost stopped. This guy can't be serious right, the soldier was starting to worry whether he had found an insane person.
"They'll follow behind us" the soldier said trying to coax him.
"Oh, then do you know how to release them" Zhi Hua asked planning to use them
"Ah, I don't really know. I've never been here before"
"Do you know how to use a gun" Zhi Hua asked planning to shoot the latch if nothing else.
"I've never used a gun before" the soldier said scratching his head.
"Let's go out first" Zhi Hua said motioning him to walk infront after collecting his gun. He hid the pistol he had again then used the soldiers gun.
"Where is the evidence" Zhi Hua asked him
"Ah, I didn't have much time to gather because I just came through and I'm a low level soldier" he said embarrassed.
Zhi Hua frowned and thought about it. Well, that's the protagonist problem to figure out, his job is to make sure that Min also wins too. Zhi Hua turned to the zombies in the cage with an idea, he aimed the gun and shot at the lock of the cage. He turned to the surprised soldier and debated whether to kill him or not but decided against it, anyway he doesn't want to breed unnecessary hostility with someone he can't see.
He ignored him and ran to meet the police officer who he guessed was in the control room. He did find him there arguing with the general about morals and all that but they were interrupted by the alarm ringing. The general frowned and stormed out not noticing Zhi Hua who was hiding beside the door .
Zhi Hua rushed inside then shut the door. He dragged the police officer and hid under the table motioning him to be quiet. The soldier was also there and he hid under the table opposite them so they were facing each other.
The soldier huddled under the table cursing this crazy guy. First of all, he released the zombies then he ran away on his own and he almost locked him outside too. The next second, the sound of screaming and gunshot could be heard which made the soldier burst into tears cursing Zhi Hua angrily.
Min was standing infront of the door of the central building with a determined look on her face. She was going to help brother Ji no matter what. Min was watching the door intently just as it pushed open and a zombie lunged at her, she took a step back in fright as the rotten hands reached for her but the zombie couldn't get to her because it's head was blown off.
On the roof of a building not to far away, Feng pursed her lips in worry but loaded the gun again and aimed at the door
