Chapter 80: Chapter 79: Cat-Style Ninjutsu
Chapter 79: Cat-Style Ninjutsu
Although the poison he had used was extremely potent, it had strict conditions for activation—it needed to enter the bloodstream directly. For most ninja, opportunities to land such a close-range attack were rare. Only under the right circumstances, with an element of surprise, could it be effective.
The strategy he and Minato had devised had worked, and one Cloud ninja was down.
With only Yoruichi left, the tension was palpable.
"Lightning Release: Lightning Strike!"
Yoruichi's low growl accompanied his next attack. His hand, shaped like a blade, surged with electricity as he slashed toward Tonari.
Tonari didn't flinch, his eyes flicking toward Kushina to ensure she was safe.
"Hold on, Minato! I'm coming!"
With a loud poof, the Cloud ninja's attack landed—not on Tonari but on a shadow clone, which vanished into smoke.
Seeing this, Yoruichi's expression hardened.
He recalled that his partner Yoruji had been tasked with dealing with Tonari earlier. If Tonari's shadow clone was still active, it meant either Yoruji hadn't encountered him yet or, worse, had been defeated.
Yoruichi's gaze turned icy as he locked onto Minato and Kushina.
"You think saving her will be that easy?" His chilling voice shattered the brief hope Kushina had begun to feel.
Minato, however, showed no sign of wavering. He flipped a kunai in his hand, his expression determined.
"Whether we save her or not isn't up to you."
Elsewhere, deep in the forest, Tonari came to a halt. His vision blurred momentarily as his shadow clone's memories surged into his consciousness.
The clone's intel gave him a clear picture of the situation. Without hesitation, he picked up his pace, moving toward the site of the battle.
Pushing his body to its limit, he began to incorporate his newfound abilities. His movements shifted from running upright to a more feral stance, using both his hands and feet.
A faint blue chakra spread across his palms and soles, cushioning his movements and increasing his speed. Two small cat ears appeared on his head, twitching occasionally, while two long tails flicked behind him for balance.
Tonari darted between the trees with feline grace, his speed increasing as he adjusted to this form.
Suddenly, he skidded to a stop, his instincts urging caution. Closing his eyes, he reached out with his senses, allowing his connection with the Two-Tails to guide him.
"Summoning Jutsu!"
Biting his thumb, he pressed his hand to the ground. With a puff of smoke, a small, blue-and-black-striped cat with two tails appeared.
It stretched lazily before leaping onto Tonari's shoulder. As the cat settled, Tonari's chakra flared, glowing faintly as the markings on his body became more defined.
The cat yawned. "This better be worth it. Let's see what you've learned."
Tonari smirked. "You'll get to teach me firsthand. Ready?"
The Two-Tails' fragment snorted but didn't protest.
With their connection established, Tonari leapt back into motion, moving faster than before. The moonlight flickered through the canopy, illuminating his swift, agile form as he closed the distance to Minato and Kushina.
At last, the sound of battle reached his ears.
Arriving at the scene, he paused, taking in the aftermath of the skirmish. The forest was scarred with signs of destruction—fallen trees, scorch marks, and scattered debris.
A short distance away, he spotted Kushina leaning against a tree, her face pale with exhaustion.
"Kushina!"
His voice startled her. Her eyes fluttered open, struggling to focus on him.
"Tonari…" she croaked, her voice hoarse. "Minato… is still fighting. Please, help him."
As she finished speaking, her body went limp.
Tonari quickly retrieved a small, high-grade recovery pill from his pouch. It was a gift from Tsunade, meant for emergencies. Carefully, he placed it in Kushina's mouth, coaxing her to swallow.
"Stay here and recover," he instructed, his tone firm.
Turning to the nearby forest, he barked an order. "Guard her!"
Several snakes emerged from the shadows, coiling protectively around Kushina.
Tonari's face darkened as he turned in the direction of the ongoing battle.
"Minato, hold on. I'm coming!"
His pace quickened, driven by anger and urgency. The blue glow of his chakra intensified, and from his hands, long, sharp claws began to extend, resembling feline talons.
At last, he found them.
Minato was locked in combat with Yoruichi. Both were battered and bruised, their movements sluggish from exhaustion.
Tonari's eyes flickered with fury. Without hesitation, he began forming hand seals, channeling chakra through his body.
A surge of unfamiliar energy coursed through him—raw, potent, and untamed.
"Cat-Style Ninjutsu: Flaming Rodent Orb!"
A large sphere of fiery chakra materialized in his hands.
With Minato at his side, Tonari felt certain. This fight would end here.
