After Killua landed a crushing blow right in the back of his enemy he fell down, followed by Kurapika, Gon and Killua.
- Oh, shit! My legs! - Gon shouted weakly because he didn't land on the ground quite right.
Kurapika and Killua landed better, though it was still a bit painful to fall a hundred metres.
- Are you alright? - Killua asked Gon.
- I'm fine, no serious injuries.
- That's good. And how are you, Kurapika? - Killua turned his gaze to Kurapika, who was silently looking at the man lying there, -I'm sorry I was a little slow to strike, but I had to wait for the right moment. What's wrong with him?
Kurapika knelt down on one knee beside the man and put a hand on his neck to feel for a pulse.
- He's dead,' said Kurapika, after listening to the heartbeat as an additional check, 'It looks like your blow was fatal to him.
- Well, thank goodness. I take it he's also one of the ones after you and Risotto and his friends. You really are being hunted by some unreal mercenaries.
- Yeah.
- I had no idea Nan could grant such powers! - Gon was still in awe of his late enemy's abilities.
- Listen... - Said Kurapika thoughtfully examining the defeated enemy and then turned to Killua and Gon, - You need to go back to your base now. There's not much else that can happen, so use the map to get there quickly. We can't stay here much longer. There's no time to explain anything either.
- What about you?
- Don't worry about me. I'll head back to my base right after you.
- Whatever you say. Take care of yourself.
Gon and Killua used one of the maps and travelled to Masadoru or some other city, or at least that's how it seemed to Kurapika. Kurapika himself at this time lowered himself to the man's body once more.
'I will of course leave here as well, but only after I have examined his body. No doubt I am pleased with the victory, but I am far more interested in the reason for the victory. There are some oddities about it.'
Kurapika looked at the man's face, from which his mask had disappeared earlier.
'It makes sense that after he died, the mask disappeared. It was his stand, after all. But what I'm curious about is why I saw this mask. Gon and Killua didn't see it because they didn't realise to use Gyo. But I didn't use Gyo either... So why could I see it?'
He further shifted his gaze from his face to the man's hand.
'His hand... When he was choking me with it, he suddenly pulled it back and screamed. He said I had only done something to her. What could I have done that?'
Kurapika took his arm, which he had been holding onto while being strangled, and pulled the sleeve back up to his elbow.
'Jesus...'
The man's arm, starting at the wrist, touching the hand and extending to the elbow, showed obvious skin damage, particularly severe redness, and deadening of the epidermis and upper dermis.
'Burns? But how...? How did the burns appear on his hand? Judging from the looks of it, there's a second... No, most likely even a third degree of severity. Could it be because of me? But how did I do it? It's important for me to know, because that's how we won. Wait a minute. I have one suspicion, but...'
Meanwhile, the rain had stopped, and with that, the drenched Kurapika heard the sound of footsteps behind him.
- Are you fucking kidding me? - Kurapika swore out loud.
Turning around he saw a slim and thin man ten metres away from him. On his head, his red hair was woven into large curls and parted on the left and right sides of the parting. He wore a tank top with round cutouts on the sides and a V-shaped deep collar, trousers and shoes. All elements of his clothing were decorated with five-pointed stars.
'Another Stand user... This is fucking mockery! Two fucking Stand users in a row! What can I do, I'll have to kill him too.'
Kurapika stood up and straightened up, then pointed his finger at his opponent and said with a slight sneer:
- Your next phrase will be: finally I found you.
- I finally found you. Because of this rain, I'm soaking wet... What?! - The man was stunned that Kurapiki's prediction had come true, 'Well, fuck it. I've come to finish you off, but as a goodwill, I'll let you attack first. Pick any spot.
And from such a statement, Kurapika was already taken aback.
'What?! He's letting me attack first?! He doesn't look like a special idiot, so there's definitely something wrong here. But what exactly...? I can't figure it out.'
Kurapika launched one of his chains at his opponent's chest, but when it was less than a metre away from the target he immediately brought it back.
- What's wrong? Why did you stop? - Kurapiki's opponent was a little surprised.
'Damn! I expected him to throw something out, but nothing happened. He was really going to take the hit. But why? So far, the only option that comes to mind is that his defence is too good. So good that he doesn't even have to dodge. Well, I'll have to attack for real to get to the bottom of this!'
Kurapika launched his chain again, still in his chest, only this time he was going to hit for real. The chain was getting closer and closer, and the guy just stood there smiling lightly. Finally the chain hit his chest, only it didn't go in, instead it just froze in the air, at most going a few millimetres under his skin.
'What!!! The chain... It just stopped and hung in the air!'
He tried to pull it back, but it wasn't working. No matter how hard he pulled it, it didn't work.
- What, surprised? - The guy asked mockingly, 'I can see that I'm surprised...
The guy tried to grab onto Kurapiki's chain, but he dematerialised it completely without finding any other way out.
'I think I've realised!... His ability is somewhat similar to the guy who manipulated the rain. Only that guy could fix raindrops in the air, but this guy can fix anything he touches!'
Realising that his attacks were useless Kurapika didn't attack again, instead he slowly walked around his opponent keeping his distance and trying to do some analysis to find his weaknesses.
- So you're keeping your distance,' the guy said, 'And you're not an idiot. However... - The guy picked up the pebbles lying on the ground and tossed them into the air, after which they were fixed at the level of his head, - Do you know what kinetic energy is? Simply put, kinetic energy is the energy of motion of a body. Any object that has any speed and mass will have this energy. But my [Kraftwerk] can deprive any object of kinetic energy!
His Stand appeared beside the guy, which would look like a robotic humanoid with smooth, streamlined armour. It had a spike on each side of its head, grinning teeth, and eyes decorated with vertical lines. The stand was almost all dark green in colour, with orange elements on its arms and legs and red eyes.
'Still, I was right not to go near him. If I had, he could have killed me with a single blow, like fixing my heart.'
After Stand materialised he began to strike weak but quick blows on all the pebbles that were fixed in the air.
'Now, wait a minute... If it can deprive objects of kinetic energy, then it must be able to return it... And not only return it... But amplify it as well....'
As soon as Kurapika realised this, the rocks hanging in the air stopped fixing and flew at him at a great speed, so that he barely had time to notice them, but luckily he managed to cover his face with his hands, as a result there were only a couple of scratches on his face, but the rest of his body got much more. He groaned and almost screamed as one stone hit his right leg, surprisingly missing the bone, another hit his shoulder, nearly breaking his collarbone, and the rest of the stones either missed him or left him with a lot of lacerations.
Immediately after this volley, the man prepared new stones and began to repeat the previous actions. Kurapika at this time used the Sacred Chain and healed his most serious wounds, though it still hurt.
''This speed... And strength... They're too great! By striking these stones weakly but quickly, it greatly increases their momentum, making them able to fly much faster than a bullet! I can't dodge projectiles travelling at this speed!'
At this time, the enemy had already finished accumulating momentum and launched a new salvo.
The new salvo was slightly less painful for Kurapiki, and although no new through wounds or fractures appeared, there were more lacerations on him.
'What to do...'
Despair was slowly beginning to encompass Kurapika. He genuinely didn't understand how to fight against his opponent.
'How...? How am I supposed to fight against such an opponent!!! Against him, any of my attacks are useless. If I get too close to him, he can kill me with a single blow. But standing still and doing nothing is also a dubious prospect. What the hell am I supposed to do?! Do I have to retreat? No... I can't do that... After all, if I retreat now, it will be a failure. If I do that, I won't be able to grow above myself! But what do I do? Strength... I need strength... The thing that caused that rain control guy to get a burn... I surely have it, and I need it!'
A new volley of enemy Kurapika was ready, only this time there were fewer stones, which said that he decided to aim better and accumulate more momentum. Kurapika realised that. He realised that the speed of the stones would be even greater, and that they would be even more accurate than last time. Deciding that dodging would not help him much, he closed his hands again a few moments before the attack.
The stones stopped locking and the volley began. The speed was such that some of the projectiles Kurapika didn't even see. Many of the stones left the usual non-lethal lacerations, but two stones hit his hands, leaving a hole in each palm, causing him to weaken his defences for a moment and one stone hit him in the head.
Due to the fact that his head was somewhat protected by Nan the stone did not penetrate his skull. However, a small part of the skin on his forehead was torn, thus exposing a small section of his skull, which now had a small scratch on it because of the stone. The stone naturally shattered and its fragments flew in different directions, miraculously not hitting the temple.
From such a powerful and painful blow Kurapika collapsed to the ground. He somehow miraculously did not lose consciousness. However, after that, no matter how strange it was, he had an epiphany.
- Hehehe... Funny... - He said quietly to himself, - With these through holes on my palms, I look like Jesus... But that's not so important. What's important is what I've just realised... There's one common rule that Prosciutto told me about Stands: only another Stand user can defeat a Stand user. For the most part, that's true. A normal person can't do anything to a Stand user. If a person is a great fighter and has some power, like Nan, they can do it, albeit with difficulty. He got to his feet, healed the wound on his forehead, smirked a little and cast a contemptuous glance at his opponent, who started to come closer, but stopped when he saw Kurapika on his feet, 'Well, it's my turn to show myself. Come on, [Speed King].
His Stand materialised beside Kurapika. He had a humanoid appearance. He had a mannequin-like body and a human face with glasses on. On his head was a hat with metal spikes along the brim and various, dangling strings of equal length sticking out on either side. It was bright orange in colour with red elements.
Kurapika pulled a coin from his pocket. He clutched it tightly with his hand and began aiming it at his opponent, who in turn stopped accumulating momentum and watched with interest to see what would happen next.
After taking aim, Kurapika launched the coin at his enemy at high speed with his thumb, but the latter had no problem repelling it with his Stand, after which it froze in the air.
- That's it? - Disappointedly asked the man, 'That's all you've got against me? What a disappointment. I will return this coin to you with much more power!
The man began to make weak but quick strokes on the coin, pointing it towards Kurapiki, but as soon as he touched it, his finger turned red and bubbles began to appear on it, which, along with the redness, grew to the palm of his hand.
- Waaaaaaaah!!!' the man screamed, grabbing his hand, 'Bastard! What did you do?!
- Do you know what thermodynamics is? - Quietly asked Kurapika, - Do you know what heat and temperature are? I think you do, and I'm not in the mood to explain it all to you. So... Now you're finished... No!.. I've already killed you.
- You one-eyed bastard!
The man initially wanted to start hitting the coin again to build up momentum, but quickly changed his mind, fearing that he would be burned again. He started hitting the stones hanging in the air with the finger of his other hand. At the same time, however, Kurapika picked up a few small stones from the ground, and taking good aim he began to launch them at his enemy like a coin.
Many of the stones were knocked away, but a few hit his trousers and burned a few big holes in them. Kurapika didn't wait for any retaliation and immediately picked up a few more stones. He launched most of them at his opponent's upper body, which was a distraction, and launched a few again at his legs. And it worked. The man fended off the rocks that flew at his face and torso, but the rest hit the burned holes in his trousers. But unlike the last time, now he got not only burns on his skin, but also the temperature of the blood in the veins of his legs rose, which made it boil, and he could not stand any longer and collapsed to the ground.
- Waaaah!!! What the hell is this?! Bastard! Don't you want to come closer?!
It was an obvious provocation from an enemy who was losing hope, but his words made Kurapik think twice.
'Hmph, indeed... After all, if I don't risk my life, I won't be able to grow above myself.'
Full of determination, Kurapika swiftly headed towards his enemy, who at this time had already managed to kneel down. When he came almost at point-blank range the man summoned his Stand once more.
- Take that! - He shouted.
[Kraftwerk] tried to strike Kurapika in the chest, but as soon as he swung and started to strike, [Speed King] instantly struck him in the wrist of his striking hand.
After that, a burn appeared on the man's arm and the blood in his veins boiled. He screamed and grabbed his arm, however, after that, the fever spread to that arm as well.
- So that's how it is... - Kurapika said thoughtfully, - It's time to call it a day. Fire up the [Speed King]!
- SPEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYY SPEYAHH! - Shouted his battle cry, [Speed King] landed many blows on his enemy and lit him on fire.
After the strikes, burns and bubbles of various sizes appeared all over the man's body as the blood in the veins throughout his body began to boil. But the worst part happened when the temperature of the blood in the capillaries of his eyes rose, causing them to burst, leaving the poor guy blind.
To finish it off, Kurapika grabbed the guy's head with both hands, and after more than five seconds it exploded like a watermelon, splattering blood and parts of his brain around, and dirtying Kurapika himself.
Kurapika, however, being a bit shocked by the result of his actions stood still and breathed heavily.
'Gee... I think I went a little overboard... Oh well.'
He summoned his Stand again and with his mouth ajar began to take a good look at it.
'Holy shit! It's a Stand, right?! I have a Stand, it's crazy! But from where... When...? 'Man, when I tell the others and show them, they'll be shocked.'
