Kai Lane: Beginning

"You knew..."

Autumn leaped up from where she had been sitting and grabbed Kai's collar. A wild look etched her eyes, and her killing intent remained unwavering. The humans didn't understand what was happening, but Kai did. Not a single expression crossed his face.

"Because of you!!! You knew he was on the island! And yet you told me it was okay! You—"

Before she could speak further, a hand emerged from the shadows and struck her in the neck, knocking her unconscious. Everyone stared at her with questioning eyes as Kai gently lifted her into his arms and lowered her to the ground.

"Ivan was poisoned. He couldn't be cured. It was his decision to stay behind."

They flew for several hours. Meanwhile, Zachery and the other technological geniuses were considering diverting the plane and landing it in a more suitable location. Everyone had grown quiet and rested by this time. Some had clearly encountered powerful individuals; if Kai hadn't indirectly killed them, there would have been more casualties.

Some thought they could create a fun atmosphere and attract everyone's attention. However, no one was in a position to move.

"I don't know how to cheer you up anymore. I can't believe you're so gloomy! Laugh already!"

After speaking, Toma looked at the countless people sitting on the ground with cold, expressionless faces. Her friends were really like that. Each of them had such cold faces, and she couldn't change that. Now, Melony and Emma also had cold expressions. Kevin was dead. She felt like she was the only person left who could laugh.

"Don't you think it's too much to expect that you could make them laugh? They can't laugh in their current state. Don't try."

At that moment, a playful voice could be heard in the distance. In such a depressed environment, a voice like that was rare. When Toma turned his head, he saw the blue-haired young man. It was Zachery. He was setting the plane's course. It seemed he had already finished his work, though.

A sweet smile broke out on Toma's face. Of course she would smile when she saw the man she loved. Zachery might not have been very strong. Perhaps he didn't possess the Divine Potential either. But Toma didn't care. He was strong and cool enough for her.

"You have so much energy—"

But even a spear could penetrate the Spear Lord's chest. In this world, anything could happen at any moment.

The next moment, blood poured from Toma's mouth. Jack and the others standing before her couldn't believe their eyes. Zachery trembled as his eyes widened. Even Kai was stunned and couldn't believe what was happening before him. Toma spat out more blood and then fell to the ground.

A spear came out from behind her.

The tip of the spear was broken. The Spear Spirit refused to attack the Spear Lord with the spear and tore itself apart. The owner of the spear was surprised and hadn't expected it to break. As his body slowly emerged, his black beard and youthful face were revealed. He wasn't particularly muscular. He wasn't particularly thin, but he was slender. Zachery couldn't bring himself to recover. He hadn't expected something like this to happen to them on the plane. His playful demeanor had taken on a frighteningly questioning form.

"Who are you?!"

Before the other person could respond, many more appeared and killed the other Cultivators. No one understood what was happening or who they were, but at that moment, Kai discovered an even more terrifying truth.

"He's in the second step..."

When the bearded, slender man's eyes appeared, a green light appeared in them, along with two Lightning Bases.

Before the other person could react, Jack swung his sword and split the second step man's head in two. Outside of this, he was a great man who had made a name for himself in the military. Now, his head was simply split in two.

Not everyone was this powerful, though. One by one, people were being killed by Step 2 individuals. Some held on, of course, but the weaker ones died instantly.

The Step 2 people were also surprised.

"How can someone at Half Step 2 be so strong? I can't kill him."

"That guy even managed to escape me!"

"Fuck! Isn't that Marsavian's head?!"

As Kai and the others stared at the man, many developers turned toward them. After all, if anyone was strong enough to kill Step 2 people, it was this group.

"These are Hunters. They found us."

The Skylands had no limits anymore. They could face someone at Step 6, let alone Step 2. Now, they could only rely on their own strength.

No one panicked when they realized this. Even though the 2nd Steps were invisibly faster than the normal Half Steps, they weren't for them. Every developer present could see the Hunters' movements. The only ones who died were those who were attacked unexpectedly and had become complacent.

Zachery had already rushed to Toma's side. Meanwhile, Jack, Melony, and the others ran to the Second Step, weapons in hand. Kai turned his head and looked at Emma, who hadn't moved. She was still sitting. Just like Kai.

'She's not worried at all. No, it's not that she's not worried. These people aren't strong enough to suppress their hatred, so she's not attacking them. Jack is the only one who can suppress his hatred and isn't injured, but she's still conscious and knows him. She won't attack him.'

She knows she can't beat me either.'

Although the people facing them were at the second step, they were all at the beginning of it. The two lightning bolts in their eyes were yellow; they were either beginners or intermediates. That didn't matter to Emma, though.

"But worse is coming."

The rear door of the plane exploded, leaving a massive gash in its wake as it flew through the air. Neither Emma nor Kai could remain seated in this situation. Falling out could be fatal, even for them.

As Kai peered out through the massive opening, he saw other planes. They had holes in them, too, but none as large as the one in their plane. Still, they could seal this hole. Zachery was here. As long as they sent the Hunters away, they could continue.

"Let's break through this place! Attack!"

An axe-wielding maniac jumped through the breach, followed by over a hundred men. The yellow lightning in the eyes of many of those with him had reached its peak. Most of them had both senses at the peak of Yellow Lightning. Many had become Half-Step Blue Lightning. Surprisingly, there were twenty Blue Lightning men. In short, these men were very powerful. The screaming, axe-wielding maniac had reached the Half-Step Green level with both senses.

Jack gritted his teeth as he looked at all of them. He had left the Yellow Lightning men behind and was charging directly at the Blue Lightning men.

"Physical Fusion!"

Raiya suddenly jumped up and killed two Yellow Lightning hunters with his fists. Then, he attacked one of the Blue Lightnings.

A blue energy sword flew through the air and decapitated another hunter in Step 2.

A mental power entered the minds of two Yellow Lightning hunters and made them fight the other hunters.

While many geniuses were present today, they were spread across the five ships. Alvar, Boyd, Reina, and some of their friends weren't among them. This was the main ship, which set the course, so many were here. Mostly, though, the Second Step was here too. Unlike the others, they were dying before they could fight back because of the power difference between them and Jack and his group. Those on the Second Step could fly! It wasn't easy to kill them.

"They're doing their best, and Jack can hold most of them back, but we can't leave everything to him."

Kai turned his head and looked at Emma.

"Isn't that axe-wielding man a match for you and your hatred?"

Emma said nothing. But she had already begun walking toward him. Kai sighed. She had changed greatly since her resurrection.

"It would be best if I didn't let anyone die, either."
