Chapter 111: Ch.111 How Did You Even Become the Boss with That IQ?
Suguru Geto, after all, was the big boss (of the prequel). His reaction was quick: "You only accounted for newborns, but not for the deaths."
"The number of deaths each day is about half of the number of newborns," Akira had already prepared. "So even with that, you still can't make up the difference. And when you say 'under the right conditions,' you're talking about high-density population areas like Tokyo or Kyoto. How many places like that are there in the world?"
"This kind of thing isn't just simple addition and subtraction." Suguru Geto shook his head, obviously disagreeing with Akira's argument. "Once society's turmoil reaches a certain level, the birth rate will naturally decrease. And mass death will bring mass fear, which in turn will give rise to a massive number of curses—particularly those related to slaughter. Once you get past the initial stage, the more you kill, the easier it becomes."
"That makes sense, but have you ever thought that with all this fear, what if an unprecedented curse is born, one you can't handle?"
"That's why I need more allies—to monitor the movements of curses. If anything like that happens, I will take control of them."
"Can you really manage it all? Sure, Japan is small, but what about the entire world? Do you even know how long it takes to fly around the world?"
"I… I'm not relying solely on curses and sorcerers. The weapons of these 'monkeys' can also kill people."
When he said this, Suguru Geto seemed a bit hesitant—whether it was due to dissatisfaction with using "monkey weapons" or simply being stung by Akira's questions.
"Sure, modern warfare can kill quickly. But have you thought about this? If it can kill ordinary people, why can't it kill jujutsu sorcerers? How many sorcerers can withstand large-scale weapons of mass destruction? And do you really think ordinary people are that stupid—that when sorcerers come to kill them, they won't retaliate?
"Do you know the 'five great powers'? Ever heard of 'nuclear deterrence'? The reason there hasn't been a world war in modern times isn't because people learned to love peace from history—it's because if major powers go to war, the result is only one thing: global nuclear annihilation, everyone goes down together. At that point, sure, curses might be gone, but humanity will be too. Don't tell me that's the kind of world you want."
Suguru Geto stayed silent.
Although he considered ordinary people as "monkeys," jujutsu sorcerers were still humans. They still needed the basic resources to live that humanity provided. In a true apocalypse, sorcerers wouldn't survive either.
Seeing his expression, Akira fanned the flames further: "Alright, let's set all that aside. Suppose you really do manage to kill all ordinary people, and there's no apocalypse—there's still a lot of issues. Let's start with the most practical: ordinary people can give birth to sorcerers, and sorcerers can give birth to ordinary people. How do you deal with that?"
"Kill them." Suguru Geto replied without hesitation.
"The desire to continue one's lineage is a basic instinct of all living beings. Even a vicious tiger won't eat its own cubs. How many people could really bear to kill their own child?" There were always exceptions with some terrible parents, but they were in the minority.
"It's for the greater good." The same words this time, but they lacked the same confidence.
"I told you, stop with these abstract things. How many people do you think would genuinely agree with your 'greater good'? And how many would just go along because they have no skin in the game?"
"Then I'll kill them myself. To create a world without curses, it's a necessity. No exceptions, not even for my own family."
Hearing this, Mai made a horrifying connection: "You—you mean you killed your own—"
"It was a necessary sacrifice. Just because they were my parents doesn't mean they should be an exception."
Suguru Geto's face showed sadness and pain—but no regret.
This was something Akira could never accept.
If it was abusive parents, that would be different. But Suguru Geto's parents were just ordinary people who weren't bad to him. They even took pride in him.
And just because of something like this, he killed them without hesitation. Was this guy even human? That was why Akira had never shown Suguru Geto a kind face.
"That's enough of that discussion. I suppose you could treat everyone equally, and maybe people would follow you, but what happens after you die? Actually, not even that long—what happens after two or three generations? When, on one side, curses have become a myth, and on the other, children without cursed energy have to be killed—what do you think people will do?"
"I—I will implement laws and education to—"
"Laws and education are made by people. How long do you think you can sustain something that defies basic survival instincts? I bet it won't take long before things go back to the way they were."
Suguru Geto's aura weakened, while Akira's attacks became increasingly precise.
These were issues he had pondered long ago and had discussed with others. Suguru Geto's life was nothing but a tragic joke—one that had already been closed in his previous life.
"At this point, I'll be blunt: your 'greater good' is nothing but wishful thinking, an impossible dream."
"You make valid points. Even so, I won't stop."
Suguru Geto's eyelids drooped, his voice low. He seemed to be speaking to Akira, but it also sounded like he was firming his own resolve.
"I have witnessed too much of the ugliness of these 'monkeys.' The law of the jungle is the natural way… I will find a way to resolve the issues you brought up. Technology, jujutsu, curses—I will use whatever means I can, including your 'Pokémon manipulation,' Akira."
That was Suguru Geto—a man trapped in his own world.
Once, his world was pure, and he lived like a saint. But when that purity was tarnished, he moved from one extreme to another.
"Curses might disappear if humans do, but Pokémon won't. With them, there could be a semblance of order in the new world."
"My answer is already very clear."
Akira gave a self-deprecating smile. Was this what it felt like to dig a hole for oneself?
Luckily, he never expected to win with words alone and was already prepared for a battle.
On one hand, Suguru Geto was an anti-human, anti-social extremist terrorist.
On the other, he was a massive experience pack and a huge Mimicry repository.
Letting you go would be an insult to my identity as a Pokémon Trainer.
"That's really unfortunate. If possible, I'd prefer not to hurt a fellow sorcerer. You are part of the foundation of the new world." Suguru Geto spoke sincerely.
"That's convenient, then. Mai, take Swablu and get away from here—don't get involved."
Akira used this moment to send her away. In a battle of special grade, there was no room for rookies.
Mai understood this and bit her lip. "You—be careful."
She ran off with Swablu in her arms.
Suguru Geto raised his hand, and the giant serpent curse above twisted, moving in the direction of Mai.
"Don't worry, I have no ill intent. I just don't want anyone to interfere, and I need to know where the bird is—it might be an opportunity to capture it later."
Akira knew what he meant.
"Interfere" meant he didn't want Mai calling for help, at least not before their fight ended.
"Capture" could mean forcing Akira into submission after defeating him, or it could mean taking the Pokémon once it was without a master.
But either way, Akira's answer remained the same:
"You won't get the chance."
The sword was drawn!
After facing Full-Power Rika Orimoto, Akira was up against another special grade sorcerer.
