Chapter 376: Uchiha's Shuriken!
By the small river, there was a forest, within which was a training ground that seemed nothing more than an open space dotted with various dummies and wooden posts, targets clearly set up for throwing shuriken.
"So this is the training grounds of a big clan?"
Sakura murmured to herself.
At that moment, Sasuke had already taken a shuriken out of the pouch at his waist and thrown it towards a dummy twenty meters away.
Swish!
Swish, swish!
Three shuriken hit near the bulls-eye.
"Brother, I've improved since yesterday," said Sasuke as he saw his throw land in the nine-ring. He immediately sought praise from Uchiha Itachi.
"Hmm, not bad," Itachi also patted Sasuke's head and then looked towards Haruno Sakura and the others, "How about it, do you want to give it a try?"
"I only have a wooden shuriken," Sakura took out a square, wooden shuriken from her backpack. Its four corners were blunt, perhaps only able to stick into tofu.
Shikamaru spread his hands, took out a plastic shuriken from his belt, and said, "My dad won't let me carry a shuriken at this age, it's too dangerous, so mine is also a toy."
Ino and Choji had roughly the same situation.
Naruto had it even worse—he didn't even have a toy.
Itachi pondered for a moment, gave each of the five a five-pointed shuriken, and said, "Be careful not to hurt yourself or your companions."
"I will demonstrate the technique now; you can follow along and learn."
Of course, Itachi's demonstration was mainly for Haruno Sakura and Naruto. The "Pig, Deer, Butterfly" trio might not have real shuriken, but being born into a big clan, they knew how to throw a shuriken.
Itachi's gaze was sharp as he pinched a shuriken between two fingers. With a flick of his wrist, he launched the shuriken, embedding it into the wooden post.
And it hit the bulls-eye!
Naruto even ran up close, exclaiming in shock, "The shuriken embedded halfway into the wooden post!"
"That's amazing!"
"So precise!"
"The Uchiha clan's shuriken technique really lives up to its reputation. Even if you want to learn, without their dynamic vision, it's impossible."
The others marveled endlessly, but Sakura felt like she had learned it.
She had seen every move of Itachi throwing the shuriken clearly—it was the power of the wrist that transferred to the fingers before throwing the shuriken.
Chakra was even utilized.
"Without using chakra, it would be impossible to embed half the shuriken into the wood," Sakura mimicked Itachi's movements and even coated the shuriken with chakra.
Swish!
A shuriken was thrown, hitting the wooden post squarely!
Bang! This сhаptеr is pаrt оf thе соllесtiоn оn МV2LЕМР2YR.
At the moment the shuriken touched the wooden post, a slight explosion of chakra on its surface opened a gash in the post.
In terms of power, it might not have been stronger than Itachi's throw, but the displayed effect far surpassed his.
"This young girl has already refined her chakra? Seems like a genius," Itachi began to scrutinize Haruno Sakura, who however did not bear any special clan symbols.
A genius from the commoners?
"Awesome, Sakura!" Naruto Uzumaki was the first to praise her.
"It's nothing much," Sakura said modestly.
"Hmph, it's not that big a deal, is it? You didn't even hit the mark," Sasuke felt somewhat jealous, "Shuriken are not just about power; they need to be precise."
Although Sakura's shuriken had blasted a small hole in the wooden post, it was far from the bulls-eye.
"Sakura did very well, considering it's her first time using a real shuriken," Yamanaka Ino encouraged her.
"Look at my Uzumaki Naruto's throw!"
Naruto struck a cool pose, throwing the shuriken in his hand with all his might. Then, the shuriken fell to the bottom of the wooden post.
"Hahaha, the absolute worst—can't even hit the post," Sasuke openly mocked Naruto, "You're too weak!"
"I just wasn't ready!" Naruto shouted back at Sasuke, his face flushed red.
Sakura and Naruto retrieved their shuriken, while the Akimichi, Nara, and Yamanaka trio began throwing kunai. They managed to hit the target but landed only between the five and seven rings—none reached the eight-ring.
This made Uchiha Sasuke feel smug, "As expected, when it comes to accuracy, I, Uchiha Sasuke, am the strongest!"
"Don't be so full of yourself, Sasuke. I, the great Lord, will definitely surpass you," Naruto had picked up his shuriken and threw it again towards the bulls-eye.
Thump!
This time, it did hit—right next to the wooden post.
Naruto: "..."
Sasuke doubled over, laughing, "Hahahahaha!"
Sakura also started her second attempt, this time hitting the nine ring directly.
Gah!
Uchiha Sasuke's laughter came to an abrupt halt.
"This can't be!" Uchiha Sasuke immediately found an excuse for Sakura, "It must be luck."
Sakura didn't pay attention to that and instead walked over, pulled out her shuriken, stepped back five meters to a distance of twenty-five meters from the target, aimed for the bullseye, calculated the trajectory of the shuriken under the force of gravity, contemplated how much strength to use, and then threw it.
Thud!
The dull sound echoed again, and this time, it hit the bullseye right on!
"This is impossible!"
Sasuke couldn't believe it, while Itachi comforted and admonished him, "Sasuke, accepting others' excellence is also an important quality of a ninja, and it's precisely because you see the excellence in others that you can strive for it."
"I understand," Sasuke replied in a low tone, but beneath his bowed head, his eyes flickered with reluctance.
This subtle expression could be hidden from Naruto and others, but not from Itachi, nor from the more sensitive Haruno Sakura.
The kid was jealous.
"Sakura, have you really never practiced before?" Yamanaka Ino asked incredulously, for an ordinary girl to hit the target on her second try and hit the bullseye on her third, even after stepping back another five meters, that was simply genius.
"It's nothing much, maybe I just have good eyesight," Sakura said modestly, but a trace of pride couldn't help but surface on her face. She felt that she had already bid farewell to her former timid self.
She didn't think it was her own accomplishment, but rather the influence of Sun Wukong.
Indeed, she felt quite pleased with it.
Naruto helped Sakura collect the shuriken, and after playing for a couple of hours, and when the sun began to set, everybody returned the shuriken to Itachi and said their goodbyes, each heading home.
"Big brother, next time, I'll definitely surpass Haruno Sakura,"
Uchiha Sasuke promised Itachi with an incredibly determined look, because in the afternoon's shuriken contest, not once had he outperformed Haruno Sakura.
Moreover, Itachi taught him a technique to throw a shuriken from the front to a side target on a tree stump, involving throwing two shurikens simultaneously and using one to touch the other to make it hit the side bullseye.
Sasuke tried many times but only managed to have the two shurikens touch each other, never able to hit the side target; yet Sakura managed to succeed after just five attempts, and subsequent tries hit the side bullseye right on.
Haruno Sakura! You've piqued my interest!
Itachi, however, smiled lightly, "You're still young, there's no need to rush, you'll learn it in time."
This shuriken technique, as long as one is a Uchiha destined to be a ninja, everyone will master it – it's just a small trick after all.
He didn't mind demonstrating in front of non-Uchiha members, because in combat, he would inevitably use it, and other ninjas seeing it could go back and practice it themselves, finding similar methods.
Thus, he could demonstrate it openly in front of those not from the Uchiha.
And indeed, the results were as he expected – none of Ino-Shika-Cho or the host of Nine-Tails could learn it. This method of throwing shurikens was not suitable for those with insufficient dynamic vision.
But Sakura's success was beyond his expectation.
Her dynamic vision was already comparable to his without the Sharingan activated, and he even occasionally thought he saw a flash of golden light in Sakura's eyes – although fleeting, it was definitely there.
Moreover, the amount of chakra she possessed far exceeded what was normal for her age, clearly indicating her status as an undeniable genius.
Sasuke had found a rival.
"I'm still young…" Sasuke muttered, a bit upset. Every time he failed, Itachi always used this excuse to evade the issue.
He wasn't a three-year-old child!
He was already six years old!
"Let's go, Sasuke, it's time to go home for dinner." Itachi, leading Sasuke, headed towards the Uchiha district located near the outer perimeter of Konoha's main city.
Originally, their clan used to reside at the center of the main city, but after the Nine-Tails incident, the Uchihas were ostracized, creating an unbridgeable chasm between the village and the clan members.
He was trying to find a solution, but with little success…
...
After arriving home, Haruno Sakura eagerly shared her experiences from the ninja academy with Haruno Cho.
"Not bad, my good daughter. It's good to make more friends at school," Haruno Cho said upon hearing the names of Yamanaka Ino, Akimichi Choji, and Shikamaru Nara, his eyes brimming with mirth.
Although he didn't involve himself in the village's administration, these three were all from prominent clans. With Sakura befriending them, perhaps she could count on a little help from them in her missions before she retired to become a housewife, greatly enhancing her safety.
Even after retiring as a ninja, she could still keep regular contact with these three influential families to build closer relationships.
But, as he heard his daughter mention Naruto Uzumaki, the smile on Haruno Cho's face slowly faded as he said, "Sakura, about Naruto..."
"Dad, do you also think Naruto is the demon fox?" Sakura interrupted Haruno Cho, looking straight into her father's eyes, "The other kids may think so, but why do you?"
Haruno Cho's mouth twitched slightly. Was his daughter too mature?
However, he let out a sigh.
"Of course, Dad wouldn't consider Naruto to be the demon fox." Haruno Cho was aware of Naruto's status as a jinchuriki. After all, Konoha had participated in three great ninja wars, and he might not have seen a tail beast, but he had heard of jinchuriki. Plus, six years prior, the rampaging Nine-Tails had been sealed by the Fourth Hokage.
The young boy, Naruto, was the vessel for the Nine-Tails.
Although Haruno Cho knew that Naruto was just an ordinary child and not at fault, the devastation caused by the Nine-Tails in the past was too deep; regardless of who the true villain behind the Nine-Tails' release was, the direct cause of Konoha's fear was the immensely powerful demon fox!
