Journey of the Scholar

Chapter 213: Chapter 212: Celestial Breaker Slash

He looked at the Twin Ogre Blades, his eyes fierce. "Power without purpose is just destruction. It doesn't take strength to destroy. It takes strength to uphold something greater."

Garok let out a bark of laughter, shaking his head. "You talk too much! Let's see if your ideals can protect you from this!" He launched forward again, his massive blade raised high.

Twin Ogre Devastation! Both Garok and Rarok attacked in unison, their blades moving in a synchronized pattern that had crushed countless foes before. Garok's sword came from above, a brutal overhead slash, while Rarok's blade swung low, aiming to sweep Ruchir's legs.

But Ruchir was ready.

With a swift leap, he dodged Rarok's low strike, and as Garok's overhead blow descended, Ruchir parried it with his sword, using his agility to redirect the force. The impact sent a shockwave through the air, but Ruchir stood firm, his feet planted like roots in the earth.

Garok and Rarok recoiled slightly, surprised by his resilience.

Ruchir's eyes gleamed. "You think strength is only in brute force, but true strength lies in control."

With a powerful shift in his stance, Ruchir launched into his next attack, his sword glowing with inner qi.

Heaven's Judgement Stroke—a precise and powerful strike aimed at disarming the Twin Ogre Blades. His sword moved like a whip, the air around it shimmering with energy.

Garok raised his blade to block, but the force behind Ruchir's strike was too much. Garok's blade was knocked aside, leaving him wide open.

Ruchir didn't hesitate. In one fluid motion, he stepped forward and delivered a powerful kick to Garok's chest, sending the massive ogre-like man stumbling back.

Rarok, seeing his brother in trouble, roared in fury and charged at Ruchir with reckless abandon. His blade came down in a wild arc, his anger driving him to abandon all strategy.

But Ruchir was already prepared. With a calm, focused expression, he sidestepped Rarok's attack and then countered with Void Step Slash—a technique so fast that Rarok couldn't even see it.

Ruchir's blade struck Rarok's sword hand, and with a sharp, metallic clang, Rarok's massive sword fell from his grip.

Stunned, Rarok stared at his empty hand in disbelief.

"Impossible…!" Rarok muttered, taking a step back.

Garok, regaining his balance, snarled. "This isn't over, Ruchir! You can't defeat us with your fancy words and tricks!"

But Ruchir stood his ground, his sword gleaming with determination. "This battle isn't about words or tricks."

"It's about the choices we make and the weight we carry for those choices. You fight only for yourselves, for power and greed. That's why you'll lose."

With a roar of defiance, Garok and Rarok launched one final, desperate attack together. Ogre's Final Fury! Their blades moved in a chaotic flurry, their desperation driving them beyond their normal limits.

Ruchir's eyes narrowed. He could feel the raw power behind their attacks, but he remained calm, centered.

He stepped into their flurry of strikes, his movements fluid and precise. With every step, he deflected their blades, his sword dancing between them with perfect control.

And then, in one decisive moment, Ruchir found his opening. With a single, powerful strike—Celestial Breaker Slash—he disarmed both brothers at once. Their swords flew from their hands, clattering to the ground.

Garok and Rarok stood there, stunned, panting from exhaustion. They were defeated.

Ruchir lowered his sword, his breathing steady. "It's over," he said quietly.

Garok and Rarok exchanged a glance, their mocking expressions gone, replaced with shock and disbelief.

They had underestimated him, thinking that their brute force and mind games would break him. But Ruchir had been unwavering, unshaken by their taunts and overwhelming power.

As Garok dropped to one knee, still processing their defeat, Rarok muttered under his breath, "How… how did we lose?"

Ruchir sheathed his sword, looking at them with a calm, almost sympathetic expression. "You lost because you never understood the true strength you were fighting against."

And with that, the battle was left undecided, but Ruchir stood victorious in spirit, while the Twin Ogre Blades were left contemplating their defeat.

Meanwhile.

Huojin stood in the clearing, his breath coming in shallow, tense inhales. Before him, the massive form of the Red Panther prowled menacingly, its eyes glowing with an eerie crimson light.

The beast's fur, matted with dried blood, shimmered unnaturally in the dim light, and its growls reverberated through the air like an ominous drumbeat.

This was no ordinary panther. Huojin had encountered this very beast in one of the earlier trials, but something had changed.

This creature was more bloodthirsty, more ruthless. It moved with an unsettling precision, each step exuding a primal menace.

The air itself seemed to warp around it, charged with a suffocating pressure. Huojin felt a chill run down his spine.

"This isn't right…" Huojin murmured under his breath, gripping the hilt of his sword tightly.

His instincts screamed at him that this panther wasn't the same one they had defeated before. Something dark had awakened within it, something far more sinister.

The Red Panther's growl deepened, and without warning, it lunged at Huojin with terrifying speed, its claws extended like razor-sharp blades.

Huojin barely had time to react, throwing himself to the side as the beast's claws swiped through the air where he had just been standing.

Flame Serpent Slash! Huojin retaliated, his blade igniting with fire as he swung it toward the panther in a sweeping arc. The fiery blade hissed through the air, aimed at the beast's side.

But the Red Panther was quicker than before, more agile. With a graceful twist of its body, it dodged the flaming strike, moving almost as if it anticipated the attack.

Its glowing eyes narrowed, and it pounced again, this time with greater force, aiming to pin Huojin down.

Huojin's mind raced. He wasn't just fighting a panther anymore—this creature had evolved, become more intelligent, more cunning. It wasn't attacking wildly as before.

Each move was calculated, each strike precise.

As the Red Panther barreled toward him again, Huojin summoned his inner fire, channeling it into his next move. Blazing Sun Guard!

Flames erupted from the ground, forming a protective barrier around him.

The panther's claws slammed into the wall of fire, but the beast didn't recoil as Huojin expected.

Instead, it pressed forward, its eyes glowing even brighter.

"What...?" Huojin gasped as the panther tore through his fiery barrier as though it were paper, the flames flickering out of existence. It snarled, baring its fangs, and with a powerful leap, it was upon him.

Huojin raised his sword just in time to block its bite, but the force of the impact sent him skidding backward, his feet digging into the ground. His muscles ached under the pressure, and the panther's oppressive aura made it hard to breathe.

"This thing's strength...it's unreal," Huojin muttered through gritted teeth. His arms shook from the effort of holding the beast back.

The panther's blood-red eyes bore into his, radiating a violent hunger. For the first time in this battle, Huojin felt a creeping sense of doubt. Could he really win against something like this?

The Red Panther roared and leapt back, only to charge again, faster and stronger.

It was relentless, as if it had no intention of giving Huojin a moment to regain his footing.

The ground trembled beneath its weight, and the air seemed to hum with the panther's bloodlust.

Scarlet Flame Slash! Huojin unleashed another fiery strike, his blade erupting with crimson flames. The fire coiled like a serpent, lashing out at the panther in a wide arc.

This time, Huojin infused the attack with more of his qi, hoping to overwhelm the beast.

The flames struck true, engulfing the Red Panther in a fiery blaze. For a moment, Huojin thought he had gained the upper hand.

But as the flames dissipated, the panther emerged, seemingly unharmed. Its fur, still glowing with that sinister red sheen, flickered as though it had absorbed the flames.

"Impossible!" Huojin muttered, his heart pounding. "It… it absorbed the attack?"

The panther's lips curled into a snarl, and without warning, it lunged once more.

This time, Huojin barely managed to evade as the panther's claws grazed his arm, sending a sharp pain shooting up his side.

Blood seeped from the wound, but Huojin didn't have time to focus on it. The Red Panther was already on the move again, its eyes gleaming with a predatory hunger.

"I won't go down like this," Huojin growled to himself, clutching his sword tighter.

He steadied his breathing, forcing himself to remain calm despite the beast's overwhelming presence.

He couldn't let fear control him, not now.

The Red Panther circled him, its growls low and menacing, as if it were savoring the hunt. Huojin's mind raced as he analyzed the situation.

The beast's strength was undeniable, but there had to be a way to overcome it. It couldn't be invincible, not even in its transformed state.

"Think, Huojin... think!" He could feel the weight of expectations pressing down on him—the expectations of his sect, his peers, and even himself.

Everyone looked to him as the prodigy, the Fire King Series disciple destined for greatness. But right now, all that mattered was survival.

The Red Panther charged again, its movements blurring with speed.

Huojin barely managed to block its claws with his sword, the force of the impact sending tremors through his arms.

He gritted his teeth, using the momentum to spin around and strike back with a sweeping slash.

Inferno Burst Slash! His blade ignited with a fierce flame as he swung it toward the panther, hoping to catch it off guard. The flames erupted in a fiery explosion, enveloping the beast in a burst of heat.

But once again, the panther emerged unscathed, its red fur shimmering with a dark, malevolent energy.

It snarled, its eyes glowing brighter, and for the first time, Huojin noticed something strange about the creature's aura.

It wasn't just powerful—it was twisted, corrupted by something darker than the trials themselves.

The realization hit him like a wave of ice.

This wasn't just a stronger version of the Red Panther they had fought earlier.

This creature had been changed, possibly by the very nature of the secret realm itself.

The Red Panther was no longer a mere beast—it was something far more dangerous.

"You're not the same," Huojin muttered, his gaze narrowing as he took a step back, preparing for the next assault. "What happened to you?"

The Red Panther responded with a deafening roar, lunging at him with even more ferocity.

Its claws struck with a force that rattled Huojin's bones, and this time, he wasn't fast enough to dodge.

The panther's claws raked across his chest, tearing through his armor and drawing blood. Huojin grunted in pain, staggering back, his vision blurring for a moment.

The panther wasted no time, pressing its advantage. It pounced again, this time aiming for Huojin's throat.

But Huojin wasn't done yet.

With a roar of his own, Huojin summoned every ounce of his remaining strength and countered with Burning Sky Cleave—a powerful downward strike infused with his inner fire. The blade met the panther's claws in a clash of steel and flesh, sparks flying as Huojin's sword bit deep into the beast's paw.

The panther howled in pain, leaping back, its eyes flashing with fury. Blood dripped from its injured paw, staining the ground beneath it.

Huojin, breathing heavily, wiped the blood from his own wounds. "I don't care how strong you've become," he said, his voice low but filled with determination. "I won't let you win."

The Red Panther growled, circling him again, but there was hesitation in its movements now. It had been hurt, and for the first time, it seemed to recognize that Huojin wasn't as easy a prey as it had thought.

The battle was far from over, but Huojin could feel the tide beginning to turn, if only slightly. The Red Panther still held the upper hand, but Huojin wasn't about to give up—not when he had come this far.

"I'll find a way," Huojin whispered to himself, his eyes burning with resolve. "I always do."

The Red Panther, sensing his renewed determination, snarled one last time before launching itself at him again, but this time, Huojin was ready.

The battle continued, fierce and unrelenting, neither willing to yield. But Huojin knew—he had to find a way to end it before it was too late.
