Chapter 1005: Group study session
[Eon's POV: ]
"Spit it out."
As soon as we stepped outside of the dormitory building and took a few steps, a voice attracted our attention.
"Tell me, what do you two know about the runes?"
It was a familiar voice. Well, it was a voice that had become quite familiar to us over the last few months.
"Are you still researching the runes, Quinny?"
She looked terrible right now, it seemed like she hadn't slept the whole night.
"You look terrible, girl."
Rein couldn't help but look at her pitifully.
Even though she was standing before them, it almost felt like she was going to fall down from exhaustion anytime now.
She was holding her thick books heavier than her own weight with magic, but even her magic was fluctuating, indicating her unstable Mana flow.
"Just… tell me what you know… about the runes."
She wasn't yawning, but we can tell she was extremely exhausted. Perhaps she had not slept for a few nights now.
Which was nothing healthy.
"We'd tell you about the runes but before that, what the hell were you doing with these books?"
Her magic spell was so fragile right now that it broke down with a simple touch of my Aura.
The books were also so heavy that they almost fell to the ground and made a loud noise, or, they would have made the loud noise if Rein hadn't caught it.
"These books are useless if you want to learn runes. What will the history of magic and advancement of theoretical magical knowledge help?"
Quin had been obsessed with runes for a while now.
Ever since she found out that the runes that are present in each of the classrooms are Original runes that one would only discover after understanding it at its core, she has been searching all she can about all kinds of runes.
'Not only the ancient magic spells, she searched all kinds of books in the great library of time in order to find clues on the original runes.'
And now she was even searching in these unrelated books for any kind of clue that she could connect with those things.
"Why are you so obsessed with all that in the first place?"
Rein called out Clover and helped her with Closer's rejuvenating power.
She needed sleep, thankfully, it's the weekend so she has all day to rest after we finish our group meeting and discuss what we were going to do for the exams.
'I'm pretty sure they will suggest something like a group study session or something like an idea sharing session on how the exams might be conducted.'
But even if we do organise something like that, I don't think it will be any helpful to us.
'The exams were conducted in a random way in a random place in a random order and with a random number of holidays between the papers.'
Not even I know what we will have for the exams, or how it will be conducted.
Speculating about it is going to be useless as well since even if we predict it for one or two peppers and they are right, just our group's members have over two dozen different subjects aside from the common ones.
Some of them are doing something that no one else in the group is doing, like Tia's fairy power utilisation class or Socio-cultural Heritage studies that Chry is taking.
'We cannot predict what the teachers might ask for all these classes and even if we somehow come up with some answers, that would be a coincidence.'
Wasting time and energy on some random guessing game wasn't something I wanted so, a simple group study session would be much better.
'But I'm against it as well.'
It would be better to just study on our own, but then again, it's not up to me to decide.
"We will tell you about the runes, but know that you will forget most of the things that we tell you anyway.
You have to learn those things on your own… even I don't know as much as he does when it comes to runes, especially the original runes."
Rein didn't know much, but her knowledge was still many times greater than many other people.
As someone possessing the truth seeing eyes, even if she might not have the innate permission for it, she definitely could perceive those runes naturally.
Which, in fact, was cheating the entire established truth.
'Her special power was crazy, but the crazier thing here was Quin's obsession over something that she couldn't even understand completely.'
She was trying to find more and more about the runes for a while, and she had found a good lot of things.
The books that she read and the time she spent after these things was certainly not for naught, she had progressed a good amount… just that reached the stage that we have will take her a little longer.
"Quinny, understand one thing, friend." She looked terrible, so I handed her a small potion bottle.
She didn't know what it was, but she still unquestionably took the potion and handed me the expensive looking bot back.
"I started learning about runes when I was around seven. It took me around seven to eight years to achieve the level that I am at right now, and that was after having access to resources and a teacher that I know for a fact that I will never have in my life."
She was doing her best and we wanted to help her as well, but there was little that we could do to help her regarding this particular topic.
'Runes weren't something you could just teach to anyone.'
If you know the runes, unless you know about them as much as we do, you wouldn't even be able to explain anything to another person about those runes.
Dividing the runes by category… or simply by the characters that they were made of, just a one word rune is something that takes months for one to learn.
"You have progressed, and you will know what those special runes in our classes are as well. However, obsessing over it and endangering your own health is not something I want you to do."
There was no need to chase something that will come to her naturally as she grows up.
Her Magic tome, her unique spirits, even her background… just these characteristics indicated how she was connected to the actual world and nature.
"I'll help you as much as I can, as much as I've helped Alf. But start sleeping instead of giving your time to those things.
Spending a few hours everyday doing it in the right direction will be much better than spending an entire day behind that one thing with an unspecified path."
Exploration of all kinds of knowledge in order to find one certain answer that they might or might not obtain through those texts was the most primitive way to get to an answer.
But, these texts, the Runes, be it of a specific forgotten period, or of the Origin, did not need something like exploratory research.
There was a good path that one can follow in order to understand those things. That's how I was taught and that's how I was teaching Alf and Miss Moon.
Even Rein had learned in that manner, starting from understanding how to 'see' to going to how to 'control' then perceive, and then change.
"Lucifer…"

She seemed a little better thanks to the potion.
"Thanks-."
"Don't thank him, Quinny! You don't know how this bastard is when teaching that particular thing!"
She was being emotional since I had told her how this was something she needed to do on her own. But, as Rein said, if she was going to learn Runes from me… well, there were a good lot of new things that she was going to experience.
"That's rare. How are you three late?"
We reached the meeting location, which wasn't the academy garden this time.
It was still early in the morning so, we were going to have breakfast while we decide what we were going to do about the preparations.
"There's still three minutes left for the meeting time so we aren't technically late."
"Quin was being slow so we couldn't walk faster."
"Hey, don't blame her. She didn't do anything."
"Yeah, right? What did I do!? We were talking and taking different paths instead of the straight one!
I didn't do anything!"
Rein was teasing her, but yeah, everyone was here already.
Zoe and the rest of my brothers and sisters, the captains, and the representatives from each of the classes who had also started hanging out with us for a few weeks now.
Even Cradle and the president were here to play around with a simple policy of not helping them with the exams since they themselves did not know much about it.
"Anyway… you all should sit down."
They were all already sitting in their places, and aside from a glass of water, their tables were empty, just like the rest of this cafe.
"Lucifer will be making the breakfast, right?"
"What? Why would he?!"
Well, yes we practically own this place. A few of them had already guessed that after how we came here a few times only to find it completely empty.
It was a good place since it was almost on the outskirts, but it was still a cafe with good cooks and skilled individuals working in it.
"Well, I can make something if some of you helps-."
"Ohh! Ohh! Me! I'll help!"
I hadn't even said the full thing and Tia was already jumping up with excitement.
"I have something to talk about as well! Please, let's go~!"
She was almost ready to drag me into the kitchen, but she thankfully did not.
"Who else is coming~?"
She asked the others who wanted to help, and only after a few of them got ready to help… was when she dragged me inside by the collar, a joyous smile still present on her little face.
