Into The World Of Living Dungeon And Beast Taming With Special Skill

Chapter 13: Distraction

John and his team huddled in the shadows, the Dark Shroud concealing them completely as they listened. John's heartbeat quickened and waiting for a piece of information that potentially valuable.
If they played their cards right, they might be able to get their hands on the Emberfruit, a treasure capable of evolving Beasts and boosting his power. That will be great.
Just ahead, Gervas's team was locked in an intense debate. Gervas as their leader appeared to be struggling to hold back his frustration.
"This Emberfruit is guarded by a Rarea-ranked Beast and it is huge," he said with tense voice. "A creature of that caliber is too dangerous for us to handle on our own. We're better off finding something else. I'm sure there will be a lot of treasure in this Dungeon. You heard the information, right?"
Griselda crossed her arms defiantly. "We've come all this way, Gervas. We can't just turn back now and what is more valuable than Emberfruit? If we're careful, we can sneak past it. I say we take the risk."
Gervas's brows furrowed, irritation sparking in his gaze.
"This isn't just a matter of risk. That Rare Beast will kill anyone who doesn't know what they're doing and we don't know its abbility," said Gervas.
But it was clear his caution wasn't shared by everyone. Another teammate, the brawny man who have a bear stepped forward, nodding in agreement with Griselda.
"She's right. Between our Beasts and our own strength, we should be able to handle it. We've fought tougher creatures than this one," the man said.
The wiry figure with snake around his neck chimed in, his eyes shining with barely-contained excitement. "The Emberfruit's effects are too valuable to ignore. Just think what it could do for our Beasts!"
Gervas hesitated, glancing around at his team, who looked at him with anticipation. He seemed torn but their determination and the value of the Emberfruit was hard to ignore. Slowly, he exhaled and gave a reluctant nod.
"Fine," he agreed. "But we'll be doing this my way. If you slip up, we're out of there, understood?"
His teammates nodded, satisfaction and excitement gleaming in their eyes. They leaned closer then starting to discuss the layout of the chamber where the Emberfruit was kept.
John and his team strained to listen, catching each of their word.

"From what we saw earlier, the chamber has layers of defenses," Griselda said. "The fruit is in the center, surrounded by stone pillars. We'll need to avoid the pressure plates because they'll alert the Beast if we're careless."
The others nodded, discussing in hushed voices which paths they could take and how best to maneuver past the traps.
John exchanged glances with Irene, Amel, and Marik, his heart racing with the new information. They now had a clear idea of where the Emberfruit was and how it was guarded.
The risk was high but if they could stay one step behind Gervas's team, they might be able to slip in undetected and claim the Emberfruit for themselves.
Beside, they have Dark Shroud by Inky which will hide their presence.
"Yeah. This could work," John thought.
As Gervas's team began moving toward the chamber, John motioned for his group to huddle. He spoke in a low voice, laying out his idea for the next move.
"Let's wait for Gervas and his team to take care of everything," he suggested. "They maybe will handle the traps and draw the Beast's attention, leaving us a perfect opportunity to slip in under the cover of Dark Shroud and snag the Emberfruit."
Marik is intrigued but he looked at him with a hint of doubt.
"Do you think it'll really be that easy?" he asked, uncertainty flickering in his eyes.
John clenched his jaw, steeling himself cause he also trying to convince himself that this would work.
"Trust me," he replied with determination. After a pause, he added a final tweak to his plan.
When he finished, Amel's eyes gleamed with a mixture of amusement and admiration. She couldn't hold back a smirk as she muttered, "You really are a despicable man, John."
John blinked, surprised. "What? Don't tell me you disagree?"
Amel shook her head, her grin widening. "Oh, I agree completely. A team like Gervas's deserves to have something like this happen to them. Let's give them that."
John's lips curled into a sly smile. "Good. Let's do this."
With the plan solidified, they crept toward the chamber entrance, Inky's Dark Shroud still concealing them from sight.
Fortunately, the room was dimly lit with only a few patches of bioluminescent fungi casting a soft glow across the stone floor. It was just enough to make out the shadowy form of a massive Beast in the center. It was a creature with the body of a gorilla but covered in thick, twisting vines and dense foliage, blending it seamlessly into its surroundings. The Beast still closing his eyes.
Gervas's team, oblivious to John and his group lurking nearby, moved slowly, inching toward the creature. The vine-covered gorilla sat in the middle of the chamber. Gervas's team drew closer and preparing to make their move.
Gabel, their snake-wielder, summoned his Beast. It was a lithe serpent with scales like polished onyx and Gabel ordered it to slither ahead. Its forked tongue flicked out, tasting the air before using its unique ability to reduce the weight of its master and his teammates, allowing them to move with ghost-like silence.
They stepped carefully, each one testing their footfalls, avoiding the pressure stones Griselda had scouted. To minimize their visibility they each dismissed their Beasts back to their dimensions and leaving nothing but their own shadows as they advanced.
Meanwhile, in the dark cover of the chamber, John caught a glimpse of their prize. There, dangling from the lone tree behind the gorilla-like Beast was the Emberfruit. It was a striking crimson fruit about the size of a watermelon. Its surface pulsed faintly as if containing an intense heat just waiting to burst free.
A grin spread across John's face as he formulated his next move. He turned to Marik and whispered, "Throw a stone as strong as you can right at that gorilla."
Marik nodded, picking up a hefty stone beside him. With a precise and powerful throw, he hurled it straight at the gorilla's face.
The stone hit with a loud thud and the beast's eyes snapped open, a vivid green glow illuminating its face.
The creature's gaze swung directly toward Gervas's team and catching them in its intense stare. For a moment, they all froze.
"Damn it!" Gervas hissed, realizing they'd been spotted. He clenched his fists as the gorilla Beast slowly rose, towering over them with a menacing snarl.
While they still cloaked in the shadows. John and his team held their breaths, the beast or Gervas's group can't see them.
"GRRR..."
The gorilla growled with a deep sound, its leafy body shivering as its powerful muscles flexed beneath the dense foliage.
"Let's go. To the fruit!" John said.
And they moved under the tension.
