In the outer city area, in an alley not far from the main road.
Mike had entered the alley alone. As a shadow flickered on the wall, he saw Spider-Woman hanging upside down by her white spider silk, her body suspended just two meters from the ground.
"You're planning to go back into the city to fight, aren't you?" Mike asked, looking up at her.
Gwen nodded softly, "There are still too many people who haven't had time to evacuate."
"I figured." Mike said, unsurprised.
Not only was Gwen as determined as her father, George, but her sense of justice and hatred for evil always pushed her to act. Even when faced with danger, she chose to fight as Spider-Woman.
Now was no exception.
"Then do what you need to do." Mike said after a moment, offering a rare smile of encouragement.
"But..." For the first time, Gwen hesitated, her confidence wavering.
"You're worried about me." Mike said with a helpless sigh.
If she had been her usual self, Gwen would have brushed it off with her trademark defiance. But now, as Spider-Woman, she couldn't deny it.
"Yes." She admitted plainly.
"Then I'll let you in on a little secret." Mike said with a mischievous smile. He reached forward, gently tugged on her mask, and pulled it up to reveal the delicate curve of her nose and mouth.
Before Gwen could react, Mike leaned in and kissed the corner of her lips.
It wasn't enough.
Something was missing—a medium.
Mike paused, hesitating for a brief moment, but Gwen's lips parted slightly, inviting him closer.
There was no room for hesitation now.
Mike shifted his position and pressed his lips fully against hers. The soft, sweet sensation was overwhelming, and with it, the changes began.
His pupils contracted.
The hairs on his body stood on end.
Muscles rippled and tightened, as though his entire physique had undergone a rapid transformation.
"Huh?!" Gwen's eyes widened in shock as she stared at Mike. Her enhanced senses could feel every change in his body.
Her spider sense flared. The person in front of her... felt like one of her own.
"There's nothing to worry about anymore." Mike said as he pulled back, his voice calm but brimming with new power.
"Wait, wait, wait... were you bitten by a spider too?"
Spider-Woman, still hanging upside down, was utterly confused. For a moment, she didn't even process the kiss.
Mike spread his hands, "Nope. This is my hidden ability. Through contact with you, I temporarily gained your powers."
He grinned and added, "Remember the guy you ran into on the rooftop last week? That was me."
"You're that pervert?!" Gwen exclaimed, then quickly covered her mouth as her face turned crimson, "So... if you kiss someone, you can steal their power?"
"Uh, kind of." Mike admitted awkwardly. He couldn't bring himself to explain the truth—that any exchange of fluids would suffice. Kissing was just the most... effective method.
Gwen frowned, clearly suspicious, "Whose ability did you steal last time?"
Mike blinked, realizing they were focusing on entirely different things. He was about to answer when the ground began to quake, and the sky lit up with flashes of light and thunderous roars.
The two looked up to see a blue beam of light piercing the sky. The abyss above the city had grown three times larger, and massive alien warships were now emerging from it. The ominous hum of their engines echoed for miles, sending chills down everyone's spine.
"I have to go." Gwen said, her voice steady despite the chaos.
"Be careful." Mike said firmly, "And if it's too much, get out. Don't push yourself like last time."
"I'll be fine." She promised.
With one last glance at him, Gwen pulled her mask back down, shot a web at the nearest building, and swung back toward the heart of the battlefield.
Watching her disappear into the distance, Mike sighed, "You're going back in. How can I just leave, Gwen?"
She was so much like his aunt—always stepping up in times of disaster. A true hero.
Mike, on the other hand, was no hero. He didn't fight for strangers or glory. But he would fight for the people he cared about.
"If you want to protect the world, then I'll protect you." He muttered, determination shining in his eyes.
Mike placed his palm on the wall beside him, testing his newfound abilities. Tiny, invisible barbs on his fingertips allowed him to stick effortlessly.
Tentatively, he pressed his foot against the wall. Step by step, he climbed, like a newborn spider learning its instincts.
Reaching the top of a ten-story building, Mike paused to take in the city below.
The area around Stark Industries was now an alien warzone. The streets burned with flames, skyscrapers crumbled into rubble, and alien warships loomed ominously in the sky. The air was thick with smoke and despair as countless people fled in terror.
Mike's fists clenched.
He turned his attention skyward just as several alien spacecraft descended on the outskirts. They were moving fast, targeting buildings at random.
"Perfect. Let's see what I can do." He muttered.
He sprinted across the rooftop, leaping a ten-meter gap with ease. His body, now enhanced with spider-like agility, felt light and powerful.
Spotting a small alien ship within range, Mike instinctively flipped his wrist—but no web shot out.
"Come on!" He growled, trying again. Still nothing.
The alien ship was getting away. Desperate, Mike leaped forward, grabbing onto its landing gear with one hand. He yanked an alien robot out of its seat, hurling it into a nearby building with enough force to shatter its metallic body.
Another robot aimed its energy weapon at him, but Mike's enhanced senses kicked in. Time seemed to slow as he dodged the incoming blasts with inhuman precision.
Grabbing onto the ship's edge, he swung his body upward, kicking the second robot out of the cockpit. The ship spiraled out of control, crashing into a nearby building in a fiery explosion.
Mike, now airborne, instinctively shot a web toward a nearby wall—and this time, it worked.
The webbing stuck, and he swung to safety as the ship exploded behind him.
The alien invasion showed no signs of slowing. Even areas ten kilometers from the city center were now under attack.
Mike, now wearing a cap and jacket to hide his identity, swung down from a web and landed hard on the street. He delivered a punch to an alien robot, shattering its chest and leaving cracks in the pavement.
He exhaled sharply, his gaze fixed on the central battlefield. The beam of blue light still blazed, and alien forces continued to pour through the abyss.
Even if they stopped the beam now, the damage might already be irreversible.
New York was falling.
