Inheriting a Lost Bloodline, My First Task is to have heirs?!

Chapter 508 - The Life of an Industrious Adventurer (Part 1)

The next few days that I still have for the vacation was then spent doing some adventurer work that I have missed doing since I was too busy with getting married, the honeymoon, immersion and other tasks. I am already at Rank 3 but I still want to continue to work on getting the highest rank after more than a year of hard work.

It is not so hard to increase one's adventurer rank but that is the case for people that are willing to take riskier mission, the high risk, high reward types of adventurers. For someone like me who can be considered too chill to be an adventurer, getting this high of a rank in just a little over a year is already a feat on its own.

The only tasks I have ever taken are small hunt missions, material gathering missions, mapping forest areas and submitting detailed records of flora and fauna. The points are measly for each mission but just to prove that consistency is the key, here I am at rank 3.

As I reached the reception area of the adventurer's hall, several receptionists that were not assisting other adventurers waved at me in greeting and smiled like I am some kind of a big shot. The people around started to look my way so I simply waved back and smiled then quickly approached the missions board on the left wall of the adventurer's hall, avoiding the gazes of others.

Since I have always veered away from long duration and complicated missions, I still take my mission papers from the left wall even after more than a year of being an adventurer. The right wall in the lobby of the adventurer's hall has the missions for ranks 1 to 5 while the left wall has the missions for ranks 6 to 10. My target for today are the simple gathering and hunting missions again which I intend to use as diversion from my real goal which was to clean up the nearby forests and prairies for useful alchemy materials that I can sell or process into more profitable items.

Due to my rank, I was given special treatment which allows me to take several tasks at once. As an adventurer increases their rank, the amount of tasks they can take at one time also increases due to the person's credibility increasing along with one's rank.

The points of one task from rank 6 to 10 is a measly 2 to 5 points while tasks from rank 1 to 5 missions are at a minimum of 10 points. Based on this, since I have ranked up 7 times then multiply it by 10, I can take missions that amount to 70 points worth at one time.

I took several gathering and hunting tasks on all forest directions around Hoffen City. I don't mind camping outside too if needed just to finish all of them before the academe classes start. It is honestly just an excuse because I want to be alone for now, I guess.

After getting all my mission paper details which totaled to an all time high of 22 missions using up the full 70 point allotment that I have, I decided to drop by the villa again so I can at least dress up more appropriately for someone who would go to the forest and also to let the academe know that I won't be coming back in the coming days. I have to make sure that everyone sees me going out to do adventure work. I am planning to camp out until I finish all 22 missions. I promised the academe that I will be back before the opening ceremony for the semester arrives.

As I entered the villa, I was surprised to see someone sitting on the sofa as if waiting for me to arrive. I greeted Arthur in a jolly manner, walked across the living room then I entered my room. I took a quick shower and then changed clothes to make me seem like a normal adventurer on a mission.

When I walked out of my room, I saw Arthur sitting right where I left him earlier and he was just staring at my door. When he saw me coming out, he just stared at me as if he wants to say something. I stared back at him and raised one of my eyebrows as if quietly "What's up?".

When he saw my facial reaction, he hurriedly stood up and walked towards me. He only stopped once he is only a few steps in front of me to still respect my space.

He cautiously asked, "When I passed by the attendants' hall earlier to report the completion of my tasks, Mr. Greg said that you came by looking for a new attendant. Did I do something wrong? I can change whatever it is that you don't like about me. I can learn whatever you need me to. I can take more classes. Please give me another chance, master."

The more sentences he uttered, the more frantic he sounded. I stared at him in confusion at first but then I realized what he was talking about. I think Mr. Greg messed up with his mind on purpose like a prank or something.

I shook my head, chuckled a bit and replied, "I need an additional one, not a replacement for you. I want you to focus on earning those academe points since it is only less than a year now before I graduate. While you are busy, I still need somebody to keep everything in this home in order. Unless, you are fine with continuing to work in the academe and being left behind when I graduate."

His eyes widened and the tears that was starting to form earlier seemed to have gone back to where they came from or maybe it just froze. He took one big step towards me and the next thing I felt was his chest hitting mine and his arms wrapping around me in a tight embrace. His approach was so fast that I unconsciously made one step backwards to keep my balance.

I eventually hugged him back and tapped his back a bit to soothe that seems to have been scared out of his wits. He must have really thought that I am getting a replacement for him, returning him to the attendant's hall once the semester starts.

I whispered to him, "I checked on the latest amount of points you have at the student affairs office earlier. My watch just shows the total for all our points, mine, Ioannis' and yours so I had to do it the long way. You need to push a little more so don't worry about it and take as many tasks as you need."

I also gave him the list of classes offered for the current semester so he can pick classes he wanted to attend. I reminded him that he can take as many classes as he wants since he would be off of the household chores.

I felt him nod his head on my shoulder but it seems that he does not have any intention of releasing me from his tight embrace anytime soon. I stayed patient and simply let him vent his fears at that moment. We stayed in that position for several minutes before his arms finally loosened around me.

He hurriedly took a step back and wiped his eyes using the back of his hands. He then gave me a silly smile and nodded his head cutely. I then started narrating a detailed list of tasks to him, verbally so that his attendant bracelet can record them as tasks assigned to him from his master and he can earn more academe points once he completed them. The tasks were mostly things to maintain the house, reading books at the library as well as reiterating that he writes his chosen classes on a piece of paper so we can discuss about it once I return.

He nodded his head obediently, a smile on his face. I then changed the topic by telling him that I would need to stay out of the academe for the next couple of days since I took out 22 missions from the adventurers' hall. His eyes widened at the fact that I won't be coming home for the next days. I smiled helplessly then told him to just focus on the tasks I gave him and also take more tasks from the academe so he can earn more academe points for the remaining class break days.

Knowing that my departure was inevitable, he then hurriedly went to kitchen then started to cook up a storm. He prepared some sandwiches, bottled juice, water, dried fruit and an assortment of snacks in a drawstring sack. He then told me to bring all of it in the forest so I have something to eat whenever I feel like munching on something while walking.

He always knew that I was a certified foodie even though I really did not need to eat human food to stay alive and functioning. I thankfully took the sack of goodies and went on my way for the northern forest for my first set of missions.
