Chapter 507 - Awaited Answer
As the mana-operated elevator slowly ascended to the higher floors, the dazed Keeran suddenly flinched as if just realizing what he agreed to. His head snapped towards me with accusing eyes, "What are you up to? Why do you want to talk inside my room? I'm telling you, I won't give you anything unless you marry me!"
I chuckled at his threat and just looked at him with a knowing smile. His eyes widened and he stuttered, "You- You- I'm ser- serious! Don't you dare- Don't trick me!"
I looked away and murmured but still enough for him to hear it, "I haven't even made my move yet. Why are you so jumpy?"
Keeran suddenly flung my hand and made two steps backwards to put some space between us. He then tried to threaten again but this time with a weaker voice, "l- I'm telling you- What- What move are you talking about?! I will- smi- smite you with a spell if you-"
I sighed dramatically and looked away then said, "Since you hate the idea of being intimate with me or even being alone with me, I guess this isn't going to work. Let's just go to Grandpa Mage's office then so we won't have to waste time."
I added some mana to the elevator which boosted it past the floor where Keeran stayed and straight to the top most floor where Grandpa Mage's office were. I heard Keeran's voice behind me as he was about to complaint but I have already made my move and the elevator has gathered speed upwards.
It only took a few seconds before the elevator reached its destination. Even before we can alight the elevator, Grandpa Mage has already felt our presence and left his office to welcome us in. He immediately held my hand and guided me inside his office, leaving his grandson behind.
Once inside the room, grandpa used magic to bring out snacks, sweets and juice instead of the usual tea. He remembered that I do not like tea that much and liked sweet food instead.
Keeran eventually went in and sat across me in a daze again. He reached for one of the glasses of juice on the table and was about to drink when I started speaking with grandpa.
I told him about the short conversation between Keeran and I while we were on our way to his office. In summary, I told the old man that Keeran does not like to do any intimate activities with or being alone me since he thinks that I will do something to him.
Grandpa Mage laughed heartily and without any regards to his grandson's dignity, he commented though he was talking to me, "What is he being shy about? You have seen everything maybe even touched everything too. You even changed him out of his sweaty clothes, bathed him and dressed him in a new set when he was having a mana outburst before."
Upon hearing such amount of details that were supposed to be between me and Grandpa Mage only, I could only look away guiltily. Keeran on the other hand was staring daggers at me but his face was as red as a tomato. I just don't if it was due to embarrassment or anger. Maybe it was even due to both, who knows.
I ignored the glares that were being sent my way and gave some gifts to Grandpa Mage from my travels. I also shared some stories and eventually the topic went into theain reason for my visit.
The tone of my voice became more serious and it seemed like I am delivering some grave news as I said that since Keeran hated being near me or intinate with me, then we don't have a future. Out of the blue, Keeran's booming voice cut what I was about to say, "Don't you dare cast me aside! After you've had a taste, you even had the nerve to make me wait for almost three months for an answer. Shouldn't you have taken responsibility of me from the start?"
I chuckled at his comment and responded, "I would have not touched you if there was any other choice. I consciously avoided you before so as not to be embroiled in these types of complications. As for "taste", you should ask my husbands what that meant in my vocabulary."
Sensing the growing tension between us, Grandpa Mage coughed and cut the conversation. He supported my claim that it was him who tricked me into assisting Keeran out of his clothes, giving him a bath, clothing him and even giving him a cure. I looked at Keeran with a face that totally says, "I told you so".
The man, hating to lose the argument suddenly said with gritted teeth, "That does not matter. Are you going to marry me or what?!"
I smiled and responded, "Send me your proposal and your conditions for the marriage and I will review it the soonest. Make sure it was better than the last one I received."
I stood up from my seat and thanked Grandpa Mage for the snack and drinks then started walking towards the exit. I heard Keeran's quick and heavy breathes as I walked away. He seemed to be hyperventilating from anger.
I don't see anything wrong for asking for a documentation of expectations out of this possible marriage. I have done this several times with each of my potential and now full fledged husbands whether it was done verbally as a promise or written in official documents.
I left the office in a leisurely manner and this time Keeran did not follow me. I made my way down the mana elevator on my own then to the outside of the magic tower.
It is not like I do not want to accept the guy. We have gone through some complicated things and encountered each other too many times to consider us just acquaintances. Just like Grandpa Mage said, I have seen and touched everything so it does makes things almost as good as an engagement.
It is just that taking Keeran as my husband is not just taking him alone but the whole magic tower and every mage into my fold. He is the heir and Grandpa Mage is the strongest mage in the empire.
Honestly, I am a bit scared of what this relationship will lead to since natural born mages are not the same as regular humans. Of course, having magic is the first difference but their body structures are the more complicated matter.
They have a vessel of mana inside their bodies right below their navels. Being in a physical relationship with a mage is more of an exchange of mana than just fluids alone. It is definitely way more than just planting a seed inside a man to get them pregnant. It will involve the mage's body, soul and even his mana essence in the process so many things can go wrong.
It is kind of hard to explain since this is also my first time interacting with mages. Let's look at it in this angle. If you have experienced reading eastern fantasy themed novels which tackle things like immortality and cultivation or what nots, this situation somewhat touches the realm of that thing they call dual cultivation.
In summary, if we do it, his magic capabilities would increase by several folds given that I have almost limitless mana. I have to be very careful though so I won't overfeed his body with mana unless I like to see him explode or something.
As for me, I am not sure if I will get any benefits in terms of mana, not that I am expecting anything really. Just him willingly being with me and being open to having a child with me is already a very great deal for me. Not only that, him being with me will surely get me a reliable ally and backer as well in the form of the magic tower.
On the otherhand, for someone who wants to stay low key and invisible as much as possible, this is making things worst. It is totally not normal for one woman to have a husband who is a prince, a duke and a high ranking magician at the same time. If you add that general and those priests from the church in the mix, I may never have a single peaceful day in my life from now on.
As I was pondering the pros and cons of this possible engagement, I belatedly noticed that I was already outside the magic tower and I was walking to no particular direction along the streets of the city. I had to refocus my mind to something that I can do to let my mind rest.
My workaholic brain went to work again and of course, the first thing that came to mind is yo do something productive and possibly physically tiring to get my mind off of things. I am already fed up with herbs and there are no stocks yet so the next thing best thing to do was adventurer work.
