Chapter 78: Chapter 78 - All Things Return to Ash!
Chapter 78 - All Things Return to Ash!
Captain-Commander Yamamoto's Office.
The office was spacious, but only three people were inside: Captain-Commander Yamamoto, Byakuya, and Ginrei.
Ginrei, as the former captain of the Sixth Division, wasn't typically supposed to be here. However, due to the potential involvement of Muramasa, and its connection to the Kuchiki family's shame and disgrace, he was present.
Captain-Commander Yamamoto had no objections to Ginrei's presence. Given Ginrei's status and past contributions to the Gotei 13, Yamamoto was willing to show him respect.
Chōjirō Sasakibe entered the office first, bowing respectfully to Yamamoto. "Captain-Commander, I've brought Gilgamesh."
Yamamoto nodded. "Good, step aside."
As Yamamoto shifted his gaze to Gilgamesh, so did Byakuya and Ginrei. For Ginrei, this was the first time seeing Gilgamesh, and he couldn't help but be impressed. The boy's regal demeanor and natural nobility were striking.
In the Soul Society, the Kuchiki family was often seen as the epitome of nobility, especially with Byakuya's impeccable aristocratic manner. Ginrei had always believed that Byakuya was the pinnacle of noble elegance. However, seeing Gilgamesh, he realized what true "innate nobility" looked like, something only mentioned in legends about the first head of the Kuchiki family.
Gilgamesh's wine-red eyes calmly surveyed the room, finally resting on Yamamoto. Through his omniscient star, Gilgamesh discerned everyone's thoughts. He knew Yamamoto intended to intimidate him with a gaze, a method Yamamoto had perfected.
In the original series, Yamamoto's gaze alone was enough to paralyze Nanao Ise with fear and incapacitate her. Even captain-level Shinigami felt their hearts tremble under his stare.
Curious about the extent of Yamamoto's gaze, Gilgamesh welcomed the challenge. In his world, he had faced gods and even felt the oppressive presence of Tiamat, the mother of creation.
Under the watchful eyes of Byakuya, Ginrei, and Sasakibe, Yamamoto and Gilgamesh's gazes locked, creating an invisible clash that made the atmosphere heavy and oppressive. This oppressive feeling intensified over time, affecting even Byakuya, Ginrei, and Sasakibe.
Yamamoto's usually squinted eyes were fully open, revealing sharp, clear eyes that reflected Gilgamesh's image.
Time seemed to slow down. After what felt like an eternity, Yamamoto's eyes narrowed again as he spoke in a deep voice, "Gilgamesh, please show me your Zanpakutō."
His words left no room for refusal. It was clear that Yamamoto had significant concerns about the past involving Kōga Kuchiki and Muramasa.
Gilgamesh's expression remained unchanged, his eyes calm and unaffected by Yamamoto's intimidating gaze. Internally, Gilgamesh admired Yamamoto's strength, equating his stare to that of a high-tier god, though still far from a chief deity or a creator god.
From the void behind him, a golden ripple emerged, and King of Swords, Kennō, materialized. Yamamoto, Ginrei, and Sasakibe were astonished by this spectacle, though they attributed it to the Zanpakutō's abilities. They scrutinized Kennō closely, noting its unique presence even when sheathed.
Unlike typical Zanpakutō that appeared as ordinary swords before release, Kennō exuded an undeniable aura of grandeur and authority.
They were convinced Kennō was not Muramasa. Despite the similarity in abilities, Kennō's presence was entirely different from Muramasa's sinister and eerie nature. Nevertheless, they couldn't deny the similarity in their powers.
Yamamoto, who had heard about Kennō's abilities from Byakuya, needed to see it for himself. He spoke again, "Please demonstrate your Zanpakutō's abilities."
Anticipating this, Gilgamesh's face showed a playful smile. Without responding verbally, he slowly drew Kennō and looked at Byakuya.
Byakuya's composed expression changed instantly, adopting a defensive stance as Senbonzakura trembled in his grip.
Everyone else narrowed their eyes, waiting in anticipation.
Finally, Gilgamesh spoke, but not the words they expected. Instead, he intoned:
"All things return to ash, Ryūjin Jakka!"
