Chapter 171: Chapter 171 - Kids who had Vulnerable Teeth and Nathan's Ring for Someone
Third person POV
(Flashback ended, back to the present…)
All of these flashbacks had been narrated by Jan to Russell and his friends. Russell and his group were shocked and felt sorry for him. But Jan said that it was fine, saying, "I had moved on in this life, and I am now living this life to the fullest."
His friends were happy to hear that.
Not long after because of their help for Jan and though it wasn't an official quest, the guild receptionists gave Russell and his friends some gold coins and gave Jan a slightly bigger reward for defeating a Valley Worm. Russell and his friends tried to refuse, but the three receptionists insisted out of gratitude. So, the May party and group accepted it in the end.
After that, Jan led his friends to the guild's mess hall to eat a quick and tasty lunch. There all of them got some food, paid for it, and sat down at a long, wooden table with benches to eat up. All of them were having a good time while eating, drinking, and chatting with each other.
Later, at 12:57 p.m., all of them left the guild with their belongings and along the way, Jan decided to stop over at his cottage home in the outskirts of town. Russell and the others agreed. So, all of them went there. There Jan saw some kids waiting outside of the house. Those kids are Jan's regular customers of his ice cream products.
"Hey, Mr. Jan!" one of the kids shouted to catch Jan's attention upon seeing him with his friends.
The other kids saw Jan as well and were happy to see him.
"Hey, Mr. Ice Cream Man!"
"Welcome back!"
"Hi there, kids," Jan said to them brightly. "I'm home!"
These kids are from different families living in town.
"Woah, who are those kids?" Nathan asked Jan.
"These kids are my regular customers for my ice cream," responded Jan back, "these little ones come to me for ice cream almost every day, mostly in the afternoon after school."
"Oh…" Rai and Ria responded at the same time.
One of the kids approached Jan with some silver and copper coins. "Hey, one chocolate ice cream, please."
His fellow kids then added their own requests for ice cream in different flavors, pulling out their own pocket money to pay for them.
"Okay!" Jan smiled, before putting his Styrofoam box down to get some ice cream using his Primary Novel ability.
After some time, with his said ability, the reincarnated ice cream vendor did so, placed them into wafer cones, and gave them to the kids. "Here you go, that'll be 3 silver coins or 4 copper coins, please." The kids enthusiastically received their orders and paid for them with one of the payment options. Receiving his payments, Jan responded positively, "Thanks. Also, how's your teeth?"
While some of his friends are now licking their sweet treats, one boy responds, "Um…it's a bit yellow."
"Wow, that's not good, you should take care of it more," Jan responded without judgment. "In my world, we had something to keep our teeth clean, but in this world, we don't have such technology, so be careful with your teeth, okay?"
The boy nodded, and so was the other kids.
Russell and the others were stunned with amazement because of Jan's good friendship with the kids at the moment. "So Jan was friendly to the kids…" Azalea commented. Russell and Kelly then nodded in agreement.
After that, the kids left the scene with their ice creams while saying thank you and goodbye to Jan. "Bye!" Jan said to them while waving at them. The young man then looked at Russell and the others. "So, guys, how's that?"
"That was so cool!" Russell responded with enthusiasm.
"You are very friendly and sociable to those children," Cassius added positively.
Alder then nodded in agreement.
"Thanks!" Jan happily responded back.
And then, Jan opened the door with a key and said to his friends. "Come in, guys." Russell and the others did so, Jan went in and closed the door. Inside the humble house, Jan opened the curtains and windows to let in sunlight, having closed the windows, curtains, and doors before leaving the house this morning. The Renad ice cream vendor then prepared some refreshments for his friends in Filipino-style hospitality. "Here, have some water." Some of Russell's friends accepted it and took a sip of that fresh, well water. Jan then sat down on a wooden chair.
"Thanks for that, Jan-san," Adrian said to him meekly.
"Yes, you're welcome," Jan replied positively, before looking around his home. "So…this is my home. Nothing special, but it's good for me."
"Yeah, your home is nice," Azalea responded while she, Russell, and some of their friend looked around their surroundings.
Jan's home was simple, and it had 1 floor, was made of bricks and wood with a tiled roofing, and had a good, decent interior in the form of wooden furniture, some soft household things like pillows, and some household items like pans, utensils, and personal items.
"Yes, thank you, guys," Jan replied happily. I managed to earn enough money to rent this place. I'll have this house once I have paid my mortgages. It's still six months away, though…"
"Woah…" Russell was amazed.
"So in this world, there is such thing called mortgages…" his mind said.
"How much per month?" Adrian asked.
"It's 10 gold coins, 13 silver coins, or 18 copper coins per month," replied Jan while putting his magical staff beside him against his wooden chair, "I mostly paid in silver coins while saving my gold coins for anything else."
"Woah…okay…" Alder replied back.
"So, let's rest here," Jan responded. "You guys need to go home now, right?"
"No, we were taking a break from our duties in the Southern Plains," replied Cassius back meekly and positively.
"We'll go home later this afternoon," Alder added.
"Ah, okay then."
And so, everyone in the house took short, afternoon nap in Jan's home. After that, at 3:02 p.m., all of them went out to explore the town with Jan's guidance. The town at this hour was vibrant, with street markets showing their merchandise and services for everyone. Everyone in town, regardless of race, gender, and socioeconomic class, gathered there to do business and do business transactions of buying and selling. Russell and his group were delighted to see all this. Russell decided to buy some snacks and a few articles in metal and wood for himself and his friends. But Nathan, meanwhile, buys a sapphire ring for someone else. But who was it?
