Imperial Spirits - Otherworldly Adventures

Chapter 12: A Warmth of Family, A Fatherly Love~

After this small episode, Ding Wei, Li Yanyan, and Jin Tao sat quietly, especially Li Bao, sitting in the last row of chairs, who didn't dare say a word.

He was indeed hit badly, although his EQ might not be enough, but his IQ is not low; otherwise, if not, how could he be chosen for the first batch?

There was a strange silence in the waiting room, not only because of the small episode earlier but also because of the scrutiny led by the remaining yellow-lit trial rooms.

As time passed, the remaining seven yellow-lighted doors turned green, and students left the awakening rooms one by one.

From the time they entered the trial rooms and up until now, only forty minutes passed, and around 1/5 of the students had completed their trials.

Unfortunately, the best score/result still belongs to Li Yanyan, Ding Wei, and Jin Tao.

Out of these seven students, the best result was shown by Zhao Shan, from the Zhao family.

His results were similar to Jie Peng's, and the worst result was for good or bad, not belonging to Li Bao, rather two unlucky students who were not able to awaken at all.

It could be said that, after the trio, Zhao Shan and Jie Peng tied, and Li Bao counted in the third ladder, while other students were worse than Li Bao.

Headmaster Wang also came twice and encouraged students, especially those two unlucky students.

Although the results of seven people were not satisfactory, out of twelve students who completed their trials, five students got the better result, and it was something worth rejoicing.

At least, in Headmaster Wang's eyes, these results almost beat the previous year's awakening trial.

In spite of everything, there was no supernatural spirit warrior, nor an Imperial Spirit Master with a talent index of 'One Star Ninth Index' last year.

Honestly, these students, including Ding Wei and the trio, exceeded Wang Renshu's expectations.

From the start, these few students, in his eyes, are worth giving a chance but definitely not the ones he focused on.

Soon, more students completed their trials; some were elated, while some were sad.

After the passing of an hour, there were only ten students left who were still undergoing an awakening trial.

Out of the forty students, a total of eight students unfortunately were unable to awaken.

The remaining thirty-two students are to be divided into three ladders; Ding Wei, Jin Tao, Li Yanyan, Li Shao, & He Wang are on the top board.

Li Shao and He Wang from classes A3 and A2, respectively, did not get bad results.

Li Shao was the second student to awaken as an Imperial Spirit Master with a talent index of 'One Star Seventh Index.'.

While He Wang successfully awakened as a spirit warrior.

In the second chain, Jie Peng, Zhao Shan, Ding Shiyuan, Hu Lin, Lin San, Li Wei, Jie Yong, and Wang Nan had the best results.

Especially Wang Nan and Lin San, both tied as 'One Star Sixth Index' Spirit Warriors.

Out of eight students in the second chain, there is only one Imperial Spirit Master born, and it was Hu Lin, but her talent index was 'One Star Fifth Index.'.

On the third ladder, Li Bao and the remaining students took the spot individually.

Headmaster Wang and Teacher Wu both grinned from ear to ear. This year's result was far better than the previous three years.

What's more, still, ten brilliant students are undergoing trials.

Everyone's eyes are stuck on the last ten lit rooms, even including those from the monitoring room.

It didn't take long before the doors of awakening trial room No. 5 opened.

Everyone held their breath and looked at the slightly distressed silhouette.

It was a young girl; she had two braids tied on the left and right.

Her face was like a jade doll, with exquisite features. Especially, her shining black pupil, which casts a hint of innocence over her face.

There was a tingle of blood flowing from her lips and her eyes. Despite looking distressed, there was a light smile on her face.

Teacher Wu rushed towards her before anyone could come to their senses.

"Shui'er! Little lass, I told you not to push yourself too much; see how much you are bleeding!" There was a trace of tenderness in his rigid voice.

The young girl named Shui'er looked towards the middle-aged man. She smiled and leaned forward to hug him; there was an innocent smile on her face.

"Father! Shui'er finally didn't bring insult to you. I've promised Mother I'll become strong like her and protect you! See, I'm now an Imperial Spirit Master! Just like Mother was...."

Lin Wu, who was hugged by his daughter, when he heard her words, even his tiger body trembled, and his eye sockets turned red.

"Silly you, little lass..."A trace of pain and love flashed through his eyes as he patted her thin back and said, "Shui'er, don't be so reckless. Father only has you now; if you are hurt the slightest, how will I explain to your mother after I die?

Lin Shui'er shook her head and said in a choking voice, "Don't, don't... say that, Dad; I'll protect you! Just like Mother protected me..."

As their father and daughter were lost in a happy reunion, the students in the waiting room also watched the whole scene.

For many students, it was a heartwarming scene; a few of those who didn't understand their father-daughter relationship felt confused, but they kept quiet.

Ding Wei looked at the hugging father and daughter; a trace of curiosity flashed through his eyes as he couldn't help but say, "I nearly forgot, Lin Shui'er is the vice-headmaster's only daughter..."

"Most of the time, Lin Shui'er stays quiet and keeps to herself only to study. It's my first time seeing them together..."

Li Yanyan and Jin Tao were also looking at the warm scene in front of them, as Li Yanyan added in a low voice so only the three of them could hear.

"I know Sister Lin Shui'er from when I was ten years old. We were in the same class in elementary school. Because we were quite close to each other, I've heard from her that her mother died when she was seven years old."

"Her mother was an Imperial Spirit Master, and she also belonged to a special military branch of the royal family."

"I've heard from sister Shui'er that she died while protecting her. I don't know the inside story, but from the action of Vice-headmaster Wu, it's evident how much he loves and cares for her."

The other two took a deep breath and looked as Teacher Wu carefully wiped blood from her face.

"Okay, Xiao Wu! Don't lose your composure in front of young brats; see... your family's little pearl is more stable than you!" Headmaster Wang didn't know when he appeared in front of the father and daughter and slightly patted Lin Wu's shoulder.

"I understand, headmaster..." Lin Wu glanced at her daughter with concerned looks as he responded to Wang Renshu.

"Hmmm, don't worry; she is your and her daughter... How could she be an ordinary person!" Wang Renshu said as a light smile hung on his face.

He then patted Lin Shui'er's head and further said, "Old Kaio said that her talent is not bad. She is the second one whose talent is the 'One Star Ninth Index.' Congratulations, Xiao Wu! Her talent is much better than yours and not worse than your wife's back then. Her future is promising..."

Lin Wu shook his head and said as he creased Lin Shui's cheeks, "I don't care if her talent is good or bad; for me she's always the best. I just want my daughter to have a happy life, not like mine and hers. Sometimes having good talent doesn't mean happiness."

"It's good that she has awakened as an Imperial Spirit Master, but it doesn't mean I'll let her take any kind of risk. At least until I die, I won't let anyone hurt my daughter!"

"Father... I'm not weak, and don't bully your daughter! I'll protect you from now on!" Lin Shui'er pouted her lips and said as she pushed Lin Wu's hand back and rushed towards the glass door as she saw other students were sitting there now.

Vice-headmaster Lin Wu saw her run towards her classmates and awkwardly took his hand back as he gave a forced smile to Wang Renshu.

"Humph! What's with this face? As a man, you indeed need to protect your daughter until you die, but don't obstruct her path to growth." Wang Renshu saw Lin Wu's reluctant gaze and scolded him in a low voice as he further continued to say.

"Listen, Xiao Wu... this world respects the strong; if you are weak, no matter how good your character is or what your gender is, others can trample on it without mercy!"

"Do you want to let your daughter be at the mercy of others after you die or what!?" After saying this, headmaster Wang went towards the monitoring room without looking back.

Lin Wu, who stood in silence for a moment, took a look at her daughter, who was already in the glass room and talking to her classmates (the Ding Wei trio).

Seeing her happy and smiling from afar, Lin Wu took a deep breath and followed Wang Renshu to the monitoring room.

On the other hand, Lin Shui'er saw her father from the sidelines as she talked with Li Yanyan and others; an innocent smile hung on her face as her father's back was embedded in her crystal-clear black pupils.
