Chapter 218: Central Region - Red Stone Town

It had been a day since the Thousand Wealth Chamber arrived at Red Stone Town.

But their ordeal in the Desert of Fallen had left them mentally and physically exhausted, making it impossible for them to explore the town.

They lodged in a big inn, and everyone was allowed to rest.

Now that they did not need to watch over their shoulders, they could finally let down their guards.

Mo Jian took a cold bath, feeling refreshed and a lot better. Coming down from his room, he saw everyone seated, having their breakfast.

When they saw him, everyone rose to their feet and paid their respects. He responded with a slight nod and took his seat.

Across from him were the three elders. Elder Bai's condition had gotten a lot better than yesterday.

"Young Master, try it. Their food is not bad," Elder Bai said, chewing a piece of meat.

Looking at Elder Bai smiling from the delicious meal, Elder Li Huang couldn't help but click her tongue.

"I never knew you were such a food lover."

"I love good food but, more importantly, good wine." He took wine and drank it, gulping it down in relish.

Elder Zhao watched the scene without saying a word. His gaze fell on Mo Jian, who prepared to eat.

Compared to the Southern Region and their Western Region, the Western Region's food was much richer.

Apart from the food, the spiritual energy in the air was far purer than in the Southern Region, and the Western Region could not compare at all.

And this was the Central Region—vastly different from every other region, which was why they were supreme.

Taking his chopsticks, Mo Jian began to eat. He ate slowly without any change in his expression.

He ate the meat and drank their wine before nodding.

"Young Master, what do you think?" Elder Bai asked, grinning.

"Not bad," Mo Jian responded seriously.

Hmm?!

Elder Bai was stunned for a moment before he turned to look at Elder Zhao, waiting to see the shock on his face.

"Why are you not surprised?" he asked, shaking his head. "Young Master, how can you call this not bad?"

Before Mo Jian could respond, Elder Zhao asked, "Have you visited the Cloudsoar Retreat?"

Hearing this, his confusion deepened. He had heard of the Cloudsoar Retreat but was too busy with his research to visit.

Yet, he could not understand why Elder Zhao would bring it up in their current conversation.

"Now I know why you have such an expression," Elder Li responded with a smirk.

Hearing their conversation, all the Cloudsoar Retreat chefs wore prideful smiles. Although the inn's food was delicious, compared to their cooking it paled in comparison.

By mere tasting, they could point out many flaws in the cooking. The Tier 1 chefs turned their heads and looked at the only Tier 2 chef with pride.

No matter how powerful the Central Region was, they had never had a Tier 2 chef—and he was among them.

How could this food compare to theirs?

Elder Bai was lost. He looked at Mo Jian, waiting for him to explain. Feeling his gaze, Mo Jian had a wry smile on his face.

Who would have thought one of his closest elders had never been to the Cloudsoar Retreat?

"Elder Bai, have you eaten Tier 1 Spirit Food?" he asked.

"No," Elder Bai shook his head.

There was no shame in not eating Tier 1 Spirit Food. How many could dare claim they had eaten it?

Even in the superior Central Region, how many had the chance to eat Tier 1 Spirit Food?

He did not even need to think of other regions.

"I see…" A look of realization appeared on Mo Jian's and the elders' faces.

"Don't worry, you will have a chance to eat it very soon. Then you can compare it with this," Mo Jian replied, not wanting to continue the issue.

He turned and looked at Zhao Tian.

Feeling his gaze, Zhao Tian rose from his seat, wiping the meat oil from his mouth.

"How is the plan?" he asked.

"Y-Young Master, there is going to be a problem," Zhao Tian responded.

"Why?" He creased his brow.

Before resting, he had commanded Zhao Tian to send some men to find out about the town and their route to the next destination.

Still maintaining his calm, he enquired, "What happened?"

Quickly, Zhao Tian explained what was happening in Red Stone Town. Compared to every other border, Red Stone Town was different.

For every caravan that entered, the town would charge a tax on each of their carts.

Additionally, the tax varied from merchant to merchant.

For the Thousand Wealth Chamber, which had many carts filled with goods, the tax amount they would have to pay was enormous.

Listening to this, all the elders frowned. This was blatant extortion. How could anyone agree to it?

They had already paid the entrance fees—now they needed to pay tax for their carts.

"This is crazy," Elder Zhao responded, his voice rising a few octaves. "We're not going to pay a dime. Let's see what the stupid town chief will do."

He was a proud Golden Core Expert—how could some puny town chief demand they pay tax?

Mo Jian still wore a calm expression and asked, "How much is the tax?"

Zhao Tian did not respond immediately and sighed. "One thousand middle-grade spirit stones."

Hearing this, the deep frowns on their faces eased slightly, and Elder Bai responded calmly, "Although this is extortion, we can still pay that."

Zhao Tian shook his head. "Elder Bai, you don't understand. One thousand middle-grade spirit stones for each of our carts."

"What!"

Everyone widened their eyes in disbelief. Why didn't they just rob them instead?

Mo Jian's calm expression faltered. He was enraged. He had been trying to stay low-key since this was not his territory, but this was too much for him to take.

Just then, the inn door was kicked open and the town guards marched in arrogantly.

"Who is the leader of this caravan?" One of them demanded in a loud voice.
