Chapter 204: Departure

Under the veil of darkness, a long caravan departed from the Southern Region capital.

The young man who shook the capital inside out was leaving, planning to expand his influence to other regions.

And this time, his target was the famous Central Region.

Leaving the Southern Region capital, the caravan picked up speed, darting through the night.

The Moon Orb was hung on each carriage as they passed through the night.

The bright illumination from the Moon Orb made it quite easy for the coachmen to control the horses with ease.

Quickly, they left the capital far behind, heading toward the Southern Region border.

They traveled for five hours straight without stopping, covering over 50 miles.

Yet, the border was not yet clear.

By the evening of the following day, a long caravan appeared in the distance, racing toward the border.

In a couple of seconds, the caravan arrived at the Southern Region border and shot past it without stopping.

Along the way, they passed many merchant caravans but did not stop. At first, many caravans wanted to travel with them but could not keep up with their speed, left in the dust.

The Southern Region border was a grass plain that spread for hundreds of miles.

Inside the carriage, Mo Jian opened the window and looked at the beautiful grass plain.

Compared to the border between the Western Region and the Southern Region, this was a lot better and pleasing to the eyes.

A few minutes later, he closed the window and returned to the map. On the table was a clear, detailed map showing all the routes to the Central Region.

Additionally, it also showed all the major danger areas.

And now, they were getting close to their first dangerous area on the route.

Under the dead of the night, the caravan left the grass plain, and the scenery outside began to change.

The long expanse of grass began to disappear, replaced with tall trees and shrubs.

After a couple of minutes, the grass plain had vanished, replaced with trees on both sides.

Everywhere was quiet, leaving only the howling of the night wind and the chirping of insects in the distance.

All the guards were vigilant, their eyes darting left and right for dangers.

This route was a den of powerful bandits. If the bandits detected any weakness, they would hunt them like prey.

But after traveling for three hours, they did not discover any danger and the bandits were nowhere to be found.

Everyone was confused.

This was unusual. With the long line of carriages, how could the greedy bandits not attack them?

Even though they were confused, they breathed a sigh of relief.

The bandits posed no threat to them, but it would be quite troublesome for them to be dealing with bandits every few miles.

Suddenly, they saw a bright light in the distance.

Instantly, the old withered man raised his hand and the caravan slowed down.

All the guards unsheathed their weapons and were ready for battle.

Knock!

A light knock jolted Mo Jian from his cultivation and he came out of his carriage.

"Young Master, there is a situation." The old withered man quickly explained what was going on.

From the other carriages, Zhao Tian and Elder Li Huang came out. They approached Mo Jian to learn what was going on.

"Send some men to check it out," Mo Jian commanded.

The old withered man nodded and left to complete the order.

"Young Master, that should be the Ravenhill Village, right?" Zhao Tian asked. "We've been traveling non-stop. I think we should go to the village and rest for a few hours before continuing our journey."

Elder Li Huang stared at the bright light in the distance and said, "Indeed, it is strange for a village to light up a lantern in the middle of the night."

Mo Jian nodded. There was nothing wrong with going inside the Ravenhill Village to relax.

But he found it odd that they lit up a lantern beside the road.

Zhao Tian also realized something was different and wore a serious expression.

A few minutes later, the old withered man returned.

"Young Master, everything seems to be okay. This is a new custom of the Ravenhill Village, telling travelers to come to their village to rest."

Mo Jian nodded and asked, "Do you find other travelers in the village?"

"Yes, Young Master. There are other travelers resting in the village."

"Alright. Let's go to the village and rest. By dawn, we will leave."

With that, everyone returned to their carriages and posts as they departed toward the Ravenhill Village.

Inside the Ravenhill Village, everywhere was quiet, leaving only a few guards on patrol.

On the street, there were many carriages parked, with their owners resting inside the various inns.

The Thousand Wealth Chamber caravan entered the village as quietly as possible.

With their arrival, a pot-bellied middle-aged man came out to welcome them.

"Welcome travelers, please come in."

Mo Jian came out of the carriage and looked at the ever-smiling inn owner but did not utter any word.

In a couple of minutes, their rooms were arranged with fresh water for a quick bath.

Outside, the guards were protecting the carriages in shifts.

With everything in place, everyone went to sleep.

An hour later, a large, quick movement came from the entrance of the village. All the oil lanterns were killed, and Ravenhill Village was thrown into total darkness.

"My Lord, the last caravan seems to be too powerful. Should we change the plan?" whispered a thin old man.

Standing beside the thin old man was a scholarly man with a light fan in his hand.

"It is already too late. We've already activated the ancient formation," he responded and shook his head.

"Ah!" The thin old man shook his head. "I discovered three Peak Core Refining Warriors among them. As long as we can take them, everything will go according to plan."

"You don't have to worry. I'll handle them," the scholarly man said confidently.

This was not the first time they'd done this, and they knew how to handle some of the hard nuts to crack.

Whoosh!

In the darkness, various men covered in black robes attacked all the guards guarding the caravans.

Their attacks were swift and deadly.

Hmm?

The old withered man creased his brow and sprang to action, unsheathing his weapon.

"Enemy attack. Defend the carriages!" he shouted.

From the darkness, hundreds of men rushed toward them, swinging their weapons, their faces etched with evil grins.

Bang! Bang!

Instantly, the quiet night was filled with various sounds of battle. The cool breeze was filled with a thick stench of blood.

While a deadly battle was going on outside, inside the various inns another battle had also started.

The previously amiable pot-bellied inn owner walked from one room to the other with a scythe.

On his face was a cruel, sardonic smile.

"P-Please… don't kill me…."

Slash!

Blood splattered to the ground.

He licked the blood on his lips and moved to the second floor. However, just as he arrived at the second floor—

A shadow flashed past him, and he halted in his tracks. He dropped his weapon and managed to turn his head.

Behind him was a middle-aged woman with two short daggers. She was Elder Xu Bin.

She did not spare him a glance as she retreated to the second floor. The man fell to his knees and held his neck.

Blood splashed from between his fingers, and his body hit the ground—dead.

He thought another prey had fallen into their plot, but he was wrong. These people were not prey, but hunters.

Outside, the battle was coming close to an end.

The enemies had killed all the guards from other caravans and travelers resting in the village, leaving only the Thousand Wealth Chamber.

Although the enemies had numbers on their side, they could not defeat the Thousand Wealth Chamber guards.

The old withered man was fighting two Peak Core Refining Warriors at the same time, and he was not losing. He even had the upper hand.

A couple of meters from him were two other Peak Core Refining Warriors battling the enemies.

Ahhh!

A miserable scream echoed in the sky as one of the enemy's Peak Core Refining Warriors was cleaved apart.

Seeing this, the scholarly man who had not joined the battle folded his fan and disappeared from his spot.

Lonely Spear was ready to support the others when the scholarly man appeared before him.

Whoosh!

"Nine Shadow Claw!"

The middle-aged man called Lonely Spear reacted swiftly and stabbed his spear into the incoming claw attack.

Bang!

When their attacks collided, they both retreated. The scholarly man was stunned.

He did not expect the man to take his attack head-on without sustaining any injury.

As for Lonely Spear, he knitted his brow, his fighting spirit surging. He was known for battle addiction before he was recruited by the Thousand Wealth Chamber.

Just as he prepared to engage in a serious battle with him, Mo Jian's voice cut through the night.

"That's enough playing. Kill them and bring the scholar to me."

Hmm?

The old scholar and his men were stunned. Playing?

Who was playing?

Suddenly, tens of Peak Core Refining Warrior auras erupted on the battlefield.

Feeling the aura, the scholar felt his legs turn to jelly, and his face shifted between black and blue.
