Chapter 1286: Dragonite and Hydreigon
Yuga truly hadn't expected that the two people he captured turned out to be members of Team Plasma. He clearly remembered that in the original storyline, it was Team Rocket who targeted Meloetta. Could he have misremembered?
However, as the interrogation continued, he realized he wasn't mistaken. From the two captives, he learned that Team Plasma hadn't placed surveillance equipment near the mansion. This revealed that Team Plasma wasn't the only organization eyeing Meloetta.
After concluding the interrogation, Yuga fell into deep thought. Things were getting complicated! It seemed his "butterfly wings" had stirred up events again.
Once it became clear that nothing more could be gleaned from the captives, Yuga handed them over to Jamiel, instructing him to transfer them to the League's authorities.
These two people were low-ranking members of Team Plasma, with limited access to sensitive information, so extracting meaningful intelligence from them proved difficult.
Yuga didn't hide the fact that both Team Plasma and Team Rocket were targeting Meloetta. Instead, he openly shared this with Ash and the others, knowing that he alone couldn't guard against the threats.
Upon learning of this, Ridley immediately suggested taking Meloetta away. However, Yuga refused.
While Ridley's strength was decent, it was unlikely he could effectively protect Meloetta. If he could, Meloetta wouldn't have been captured under his watch in the first place.
Ridley then proposed taking Meloetta back to hide. Their current forest home was no longer a secret, but before he left, his people had already been discussing relocating.
His tribe had long grown accustomed to frequently moving to ensure Meloetta's safety.
Yet Yuga still disagreed. No matter where they moved, there would always be a risk of being discovered. After all, Ridley's tribe no longer had any powerful Trainers to serve as a reliable safeguard.
With no other options, Ridley ultimately had to comply with Yuga's request and temporarily moved into the mansion with Meloetta.
Over the next two days, Ash and his companions continued their rigorous training as usual, though everyone was noticeably more vigilant. Taking advantage of the situation, Yuga sent out his Pokémon to conduct a thorough search of the mansion's surroundings once more.
The results were shocking. Not only did they uncover another dozen or so surveillance devices, but they also captured four or five additional Team Plasma grunts.
Yuga handed the surveillance devices over to Jamiel, instructing him to find someone to investigate and analyze the data recorded within. As for the Team Plasma grunts, after interrogating them, Yuga turned them over to the League as well.
The information gained from interrogating these grunts was largely the same as what he had learned from the earlier two captives. However, one of the higher-ranking grunts revealed why Team Plasma was pursuing Meloetta.
It all traced back to Team Radiance's machinations.
Team Radiance's intelligence network was exceptionally strong. Somehow, they had caught wind of Team Rocket's plans to capture Meloetta. Wanting a piece of the action, Team Radiance secretly followed them to the Unova region.
However, being a newly emerging power, Team Radiance lacked the strength to directly compete with Team Rocket. Thus, they sought an alliance with a local Unova force—Team Plasma.
Team Aqua and Team Magma in Hoenn had fallen apart, Sinnoh's Team Galactic had disbanded, and Kalos' Team Flare had been wiped out early on by Yuga and the League. Now, the only remaining active groups were Team Rocket, ruling over the Kanto and Johto regions, and Team Plasma, hidden in the shadows of the Unova region.
The two organizations joined forces, creating the situation Yuga and his companions were now facing.
However, Team Radiance was particularly cunning. They rarely acted directly, leaving the bulk of monitoring Meloetta to Team Plasma's forces.
At night, Team Plasma even sent agents to sneak into the estate, attempting to steal Meloetta, but Yuga managed to catch them every time.
What puzzled Yuga was that if Team Rocket was also targeting Meloetta, why had they only deployed a large number of surveillance devices without taking any other actions? Even Team Plasma had already begun to stir things up! Could it be that they were aware of his presence and were afraid? Yuga couldn't help indulging in a bit of self-flattery.
One afternoon, while Yuga was helping with housework using a vacuum cleaner and Jamiel was cooking, their appliances suddenly stopped working. After checking, they discovered there was a power outage.
Shortly afterward, Officer Jenny from Undella Town arrived and explained the cause of the outage.
It turned out that a powerful Dragonite had recently appeared in Undella Town. This Dragonite went around challenging other Pokémon, displaying a highly volatile temperament. Its rampages had caused damage to various facilities in town, leaving the townspeople and police at their wits' end. This Dragonite had even earned the nickname "The Troublemaker."
Although many trainers in town had tried to capture the Dragonite, they were all defeated due to its overwhelming strength. One after another, they returned, dejected and beaten, eventually giving up on the idea.
That day, the Dragonite somehow ended up at the town's power station, damaging the energy-storing power towers and causing a town-wide blackout.
"I heard that Miss Cynthia is here, so I wanted to see if we could ask for her help to deal with the Dragonite. If Cynthia steps in, the problem should be resolved quickly," Officer Jenny earnestly pleaded.
Jamiel helplessly replied, "Unfortunately, our lady isn't home. She went to Lacunosa Town."
"I see. Then we'll have to handle this ourselves," Officer Jenny said with disappointment.
After hearing the explanation, Yuga speculated: Could this Dragonite be the same one Iris ends up capturing?
While Yuga could have stepped in for Cynthia, he decided to stay quiet. Since this might be Iris' opportunity, it was better to let her handle it.
Sure enough, upon learning about the Dragonite, Ash and Iris excitedly declared their intention to check it out.
However, Yuga insisted that Meloetta stay behind. Considering the ongoing threats, it was too risky for Meloetta to leave the estate.
Once Ash and the others left, only Yuga, Ridley, and Jamiel remained at the estate.
By evening, Ash, Iris, Dawn, and Cilan returned, brimming with excitement. The town's electricity had also been restored.
As soon as they came back, Iris eagerly announced that she had captured a Dragonite.
For Iris, who aspired to be a Dragon Master, having only an Axew as her sole Dragon-type Pokémon was a bit embarrassing. Now, she finally had her second Dragon-type Pokémon.
However, the Dragonite had a fiery and proud personality. When Iris released it, it shot a fierce glare at Yuga, baring its teeth in defiance and showing its unruly nature.
Unable to resist, Yuga activated his Insight skill.
...

...
Well, no wonder it was so arrogant—it was an Elite-level Pokémon.
After hearing the explanation from Ash and the others, Yuga finally understood that Dragonite had willingly followed Iris and was not captured through battle.
Iris, hailing from the Village of Dragons and having been mentored by the master-class Trainer Elder, possesses the mysterious Dragon Force. It wasn't surprising to Yuga that Dragonite would choose to follow her.
However, this Dragonite had such a foul temper that Yuga couldn't help but feel annoyed with it. Smiling, he said to Iris, "Iris, how about a little sparring? You can use your Dragonite, and I'll use mine."
Iris was thrilled at the suggestion. "Sure, sure!" She had long wanted to test her Dragonite against Yuga's.
Seeing Iris agree so readily, Yuga smirked slyly and led her and Dragonite to the battle arena.
When Yuga's Dragonite appeared on the field, it stood calmly across from Iris's Dragonite, exuding an air of complete disdain as it stared at the other Dragonite (naturally, as per Yuga's instructions).
Iris's Dragonite, of course, was instantly provoked. It raised its Ice Punch and charged at Yuga's Dragonite. However, its attack was abruptly stopped as Yuga's Dragonite caught its fist effortlessly.
Yuga could clearly see the look of shock on Iris's Dragonite's face.
Boom!
Iris's Dragonite was lifted and slammed hard onto the ground by Yuga's Dragonite, leaving it dazed and disoriented. On the sidelines, Iris watched, her eyes wide with disbelief. Her Dragonite was supposed to be strong—how had it ended up in such a pitiful state so quickly?
Despite the rough treatment, Iris's Dragonite didn't seem to learn its lesson. Instead, it became even more enraged, clambering to its feet and charging once again, its Ice Punch aimed at Yuga's Dragonite.
Iris tried to command it to stop, but her Dragonite completely ignored her.
Though the Dragonite had chosen to follow Iris, her inexperience as a Trainer meant it didn't fully acknowledge her authority.
As Iris's Dragonite rushed forward, Yuga's Dragonite remained unfazed, calmly responding with its own Thunder Punch.
Crash!
The two punches collided, but the force of Yuga's Dragonite's attack sent Iris's Dragonite flying. It crashed into a nearby tree, breaking the trunk cleanly in half.
Fortunately, Yuga had instructed his Dragonite to control its power. Otherwise, Iris's Dragonite would likely have been knocked unconscious.
This time, Iris's Dragonite finally realized the vast difference in their strengths. Watching as Yuga's Dragonite approached step by step, it began to tremble with fear.
In the end, Yuga's Dragonite gave Iris's Dragonite a thorough beating.
That's what you get for being so arrogant and annoying me!
After being disciplined by Yuga's Dragonite, Iris's Dragonite became much more subdued. Although it still didn't fully obey Iris's commands, it no longer dared to act so recklessly.
Through a conversation with Iris's Dragonite, Yuga learned the reason it had entered the Undella Town power station—it had been injured in a battle against a Hydreigon.
During the battle, Dragonite had protected a flock of Pidove that were nearly caught in the crossfire between it and Hydreigon, inadvertently getting injured in the process.
There's a wild Hydreigon in the area? Yuga immediately caught on to the key detail in Dragonite's story.
"You said you got injured fighting a Hydreigon?"
Dragonite nodded fearfully.
Ash, Iris, and the others were already surprised to see Yuga conversing with Dragonite, but they were even more shocked when he managed to uncover the existence of a Hydreigon.
Iris, too, had only learned of the Hydreigon through fragments of Dragonite's memories using her Dragon Force.
"In that case, let's head out tomorrow to find this Hydreigon!" Yuga proposed.
"Yay!"
Yuga's proposal was met with everyone's agreement.
The next day, Cynthia continued to help Caitlin in the neighboring Lacunosa Town, while Yuga set out with a few companions to search for the Hydreigon.
According to Dragonite, the Hydreigon had recently arrived in Undella Town, and they had encountered each other by a small river outside the town.
To the east of Undella Town lay the boundless sea, while to the west stretched an endless forest. A river flowing from the forest crossed through Undella Town and emptied into the sea.
The section of the river where Dragonite and Hydreigon had their battle was located right where the river entered Undella Town.
Led by Dragonite, the group arrived at the location Dragonite had described, which indeed bore signs of devastation caused by a battle.
However, it was evident that Hydreigon was no longer there.
Yuga instructed Dragonite, "Go find a Pidove and ask for information."
Since Dragonite had saved the Pidove in the area, it wasn't long before it returned with a Pidove. Yuga asked it if it knew which direction the Hydreigon had gone.
To their surprise, the Pidove did know.
It turned out that while Hydreigon had injured Dragonite during their battle, it hadn't emerged unscathed. Looking for a place to recover, it had settled nearby, and the Pidove had happened to witness where it went.
As for whether Hydreigon was still there, the Pidove wasn't certain because it was terrified of Hydreigon and didn't dare venture too close.
The Pidove was loyal and determined. Learning that its savior intended to find Hydreigon, it immediately offered to lead them there.
"Yuga's abilities are truly convenient!"
Watching how effortlessly Yuga managed to gather clues about Hydreigon, Ash and the others couldn't help but feel envious.
According to the Pidove, there was a small hill nearby with a large tree growing on it, and Hydreigon had taken up residence there.
As soon as Yuga's group arrived, they heard a series of roars from a distance, unmistakably coming from Hydreigon.
They spotted three people dressed in black uniforms surrounding Hydreigon. The uniforms were identical to those worn by the Plasma Grunts Yuga had captured earlier.
Clearly, these three people were also members of Team Plasma.
It turned out that over the past couple of days, Yuga had captured so many members of Team Plasma that they no longer dared approach the villa. Instead, they kept their distance and ended up discovering Hydreigon's whereabouts by chance.
Since they couldn't capture Meloetta for the time being, they decided to target Hydreigon instead.
However, they had underestimated Hydreigon's strength. The three of them were no match for it and were swiftly defeated.
Yuga and his group observed from afar. Since Hydreigon had helped them deal with the Team Plasma members, all they had to do was wait for the outcome.
After the three were dealt with, Yuga turned to Ash and the others, asking, "Who wants to capture Hydreigon?"
The group all shook their heads in unison. While they were eager to, they knew they weren't strong enough to take on Hydreigon.
If Iris's Dragonite were willing to assist, Iris might stand a chance, but her Dragonite wasn't very cooperative.
If Dragonite were to fight Hydreigon on its own for revenge, it likely still wouldn't be able to win.
Seeing this, Yuga smiled and said, "Since none of you are stepping up, I'll make my move then!"
