Chapter 4: Pokémon Research Summit, Officially Starts
"Next, we have a researcher from the Oak Research Institution in the Kanto region, Rope Harlow, presenting his research."
The host of the program chimed in loudly but politely, or rather coldly.
It's no wonder that he was a little listless. The one who was presenting in front of Rope was Professor Oak, who was well-known in the research community. Professor Oak had new results on the relationship and origin of Pokémon and humans. The one who was presenting after Rope was Professor Rowan from Sinnoh, who was even more experienced than Professor Oak in the research community. It was said that Professor Rowan had made a breakthrough in the research on the evolution of Pokémon. So everyone had been looking forward to Professor Rowan's report for a long time. To be honest, if it wasn't really rude, everyone might have asked him to stop for a while and let Professor Rowan report first. After all, no one would necessarily want to hear the results of this unknown little researcher.
But rules are rules.
But some people are different.
Upon hearing Rope's name, a female researcher wearing glasses, a white lab coat, knee-length hair, and a purple flower hairpin subconsciously grabbed Professor Juniper's shirt next to hers.
Professor Juniper sensed her nervousness and asked with a smile, "Doctor Fennel, is this the researcher you mentioned to me as being of great value to be studied?"
Doctor Fennel nodded and said, "This is the guy, I don't know what method he used, through my dream energy, he found the trace of the Nightmare God Darkrai, and... He fought with Darkrai..."
Professor Juniper looked at the young man who walked onto the stage and bowed slightly to everyone, but he really couldn't see how this skinny guy managed to achieve the feat of fighting the Legendary Pokémon that Doctor Fennel said he did. And he was said to have fought one himself... That was an outrageous statement, as far as she knew the only humanoids in the League right now were Psychic Elite Four Caitlin from their region and Saffron City Gym Leader Sabrina from Kanto.
The thing is, they've never actually fought a Legendary Pokémon on their own.
Juniper couldn't believe it.
On the other side of the room, Professor Carolina, seeing her old friend's interest, asked, "Why, Rowan, do you know this little guy?"
The blonde sitting next to Carolina also looked over curiously.
Professor Rowan nodded and said: "That little guy came to my Research Institution under the leadership of Oak to discuss with me some concepts related to the evolution of Pokémon, each creative little guy, many of the hypotheses and ideas in my research were inspired by him.
Professor Carolina heard Professor Rowan praising a junior so much, and finally took interest in the kid on the stage.
"By the way," Professor Rowan seemed to have suddenly remembered something: "I remember he said that he was very interested in the mythology of the Sinnoh region, so it is very likely that he will come here to consult with you two on related research topics after this summit. There's also a possibility that he'll be traveling in Sinnoh for a while."
Professor Carolina frowned slightly. Professor Rowan just said that this little guy named Rope has a lot of experience in Pokémon evolution. And now he said that this little guy is very interested in the myths and legends of Sinnoh. This made her have a slightly worse impression of this young man. You know, people's energy is limited. Most professors will only continue to work hard in their own fields and get fruits. Professor Oak's research topic is already quite grand, but he has not involved too much in other fields. So Carolina was naturally a little unhappy when she heard that Rope was interested in the field of mythology. This is not a prejudice, but a real energy limitation. Generalists are often broad but not specialized. This is the conclusion they have drawn in the field of research for so many years.
Clearly, Rope was not a special case in Carolina's mind.
But for the sake of her old friend, she could only reply, rather coldly, "I'll talk to the little guy." And that was that.
Professor Rowan could see his old friend's displeasure, but instead of explaining for Rope, he just smiled.
The blonde who heard their conversation, Cynthia, the champion of Sinnoh, couldn't help but take an interest in the young man on the stage, who was about the same age as herself. She straightened up, intending to listen carefully to the results of this person, after all, Professor Rowan so recommended, indeed not ordinary people can afford.
Other than that, almost no one was interested in Rope on the stage. After all, Rope has been staying at Research Institution, except for that time when Professor Oak dragged him to Sinnoh, and thus he met Professor Rowan, and Doctor Fennel, who thought of utilizing dream energy to find out the level of strength of the Legendary Pokémon, Rope basically has not had any interactions with other people in the research world.
He has not published many of his research results. Daisy helped him publish a few insignificant research papers. Otherwise, he would not have this little reputation. He is not bragging when he says he is a little famous. But that is relative to the overall research community. Compared with the big guys at the summit, not many people know him. It is not an exaggeration to say that he is unknown.
As a result, everyone under the stage basically changed into a relaxed posture, after all, listening to the report is not listening to stories, listening carefully or very tired. There are also a lot of female researchers look at Rope's handsome face lamented so handsome still as a researcher, Pokémon Hollywood as an actor does not smell good?
Rope stood on the stage, looking at the crowd below with a normal expression. Then two photos were shown on the screen, one was a photo of Mew and World Tree, and the other was a photo of Mew pulling Rope's hair with the Three Legendary Giants in the background. In the photo, Rope looked helplessly at the naughty Mew, but his handsome face remained unchanged. Then he said loudly: "My presentation is about 'The significance of Legendary Pokémon represented by World Tree and Mew in maintaining world order and the development and utilization of Aura'."
The atmosphere under the stage, which was still quite loose, instantly stagnated, and everyone froze for a moment as they looked at the two pictures on the screen that didn't seem to be faked at all.
Most of the researchers and professors had never seen a Legendary Pokémon before, let alone studied one. So the title and the subject matter would shock them for a whole year.
But Rope wasn't done counting, he scrolled down again, saying something like "The World Tree is not only an extraordinary individual, but it also balances the energies of the entire Kanto region, and Mew's symbiotic relationship with the World Tree has helped to maintain its fragile equilibrium. And Legendary Giant Regigigas, Creator of the Three Legendary Giants, is also involved in World Tree's stabilization..."
Rope turned over a picture of Darkrai, who was looking tired. Rope said, "Regarding Darkrai, the God of Nightmares, its nature is the same as Cresselia, the God of Dreams, who maintains the cycle of Dreams and Nightmare, which is also a necessity and must for human life..."
Rope turned to the next page, which was the documentation of Aura Hero Aaron and the Lucario scepter.
"The understanding of Aura is this..."
Rope was talking on the stage, and the audience was shocked for a whole year.
Legendary Pokémons are called Legendary Pokémons because they are mysterious and unknown. Power brings the unknown, and the unknown brings fear.
And this time, Rope showed them the tip of the iceberg about the power and significance of the Legendary Pokémons.
And that's enough to shock people. After all, not everyone has the courage to face the gods.
Of course, Rope also didn't say anything. For example, the reason why Mew pulled his hair was because Rope had just roasted Mew's tail with fire, and the reason why Darkrai was tired was because he had a fight with Rope. As for Aura and Lucario, Rope didn't expect that the ability of Flame-Flame Fruit could replace Aura, so Lucario was fooled by him.
Most of the time, this guy's work is far from human.
"So, we know that the existence of the Legendary Pokémon has a significance that we don't know about, but it's extremely important that we do our research on the Legendary Pokémon without jeopardizing the Legendary Pokémon themselves as much as possible."
No, you've got it wrong. It's not a question of whether or not we're going to jeopardize the Legendary Pokémon...
It's not about ambition, it's about ability.
"This concludes my presentation. Thank you for listening."
Rope bowed to the audience.
There was an awkward silence. Everyone was still in shock. We're all senior researchers or even professors, we've seen it all before.
But the Legendary Pokémon's behavior was unlike anything we've ever seen...
Professor Oak looked at Rope, who was slightly embarrassed on the stage, and then looked at the people who were shocked by the silence, smiled and started to applaud.
Professor Rowan followed suit. Then came Professor Carolina, Professor Juniper, Cynthia, Doctor Fennel, Professor Elm, Professor Ivy, Professor Birch...
There's a big round of applause.
Rope smiled and walked off the stage. The applause continued.
Doctor Fennel whispered in Professor Juniper's ear, "The reason that Darkrai looks so tired is because they just had a fight, and Amanita took that picture of him."
Juniper didn't know what to say for a moment, whether to praise Rope or offer a moment of silence for Darkrai.
Professor Carolina applauded while leaning towards Professor Rowan, and then whispered, "Rowan, remember to introduce me to this little guy, ah, no, introduce this new 'Professor'."
Professor Rowan smiled and nodded.
Cynthia looked at the young man sitting beside Professor Oak, who was a bit glowing at the moment, with a smile on the corner of her mouth, she exuded a curious look.
