Chapter 196: INIIDF-Chapter 193 Kuma
I have translated a new novel (Multiverse Conquest Starting from Dragon Ball). Read it and support me.
"It seems that you can really steal other people's Devil Fruit abilities, just like the papers say..." Kuma said with a slight smile, soft and warm.
Liam laughed dismissively, "Looks like the whole world knows about my ability now! Am I really that amazing?"
In a calm tone, Kuma replied, "But if you're interested in my fruit ability, it won't be as easy as it was with Caesar Clown."
Liam laughed, "Caesar Clown was a joke! But wait, I meant borrow - just temporarily, Kuma-Nii-San, to play around with your ability, not steal it!"
"You know who I am?" Kuma sounded a bit surprised.
"Of course I do! I've heard a lot about you," Liam replied with a grin. "The 'Tyrant' scary stuff, right?"
Kuma fell silent. If this boy had heard of his title 'Tyrant', why did he act so familiar...?
"I'm a Paw-Paw Fruit user," Kuma said simply, deciding not to think too much about Liam's personality. At least he didn't seem to be hostile. "Even if it's temporary, show me what you're made of."
He pulled off a pair of black leather gloves, revealing the soft, pink paw pads on his palms.
Watching from the side, Robin couldn't help but imagine a few cats and dogs with the same fluffy pads. She never expected such a big, imposing man to have something so... cute on his hands.
"Fine with me!" Liam waved his hand with a slight smile. "I've been meaning to see who's stronger between you and the Snake Princess."
Robin glanced sideways, wondering if he was going to use her as a tool to measure their strength. She quietly stepped back, giving the two of them plenty of room to spar.
Sensing the tension, the sea monkeys let out a chorus of chirps, then suddenly leapt into the ocean, seizing their chance to swim away.
Kuma carefully placed his "Bible" on a nearby rock and walked to the side, glancing at B.I.B., then finally standing in front of Liam.
Liam remarked, "You really like that book, huh?"
Kuma stood tall and replied in a deep voice, "Carrying a book does not necessarily mean devotion.
Got it, thought Liam— it might just be a list of top enemies to remember.
Liam assumed a Hasshō-ken stance, known as the Eight Impacts Fist. Not that it was particularly meaningful or useful; he could have just as easily called it something else.
A light breeze stirred… though technically, there was no wind on the Calm Belt.
And they began! Robin's heart skipped. As expected, Kuma stood rock-solid, and Liam charged forward to launch the first attack.
With a "whoosh," Liam flashed right in front of Kuma, striking with a punch— only to hit empty air. Kuma had simply vanished.
'Was that Soru from Rokushiki Techniques?' Robin wondered in surprise; she hadn't seen how Kuma had moved.
In the next instant, her pupils contracted! Just as silently as he had disappeared, Kuma appeared behind Liam, towering above him as he pressed his paw down.
'It really is like teleportation,' Liam thought as he glanced back, seeing Kuma's massive paw, its pink pad looking like a mountain, descending on him.
'BOOM!'
Kuma's palm left a deep bear paw print in the ground.
Liam dodged to the side using Soru, and as Kuma turned, Liam had already launched another punch!
Kuma raised his left paw.
Liam's fist struck the soft paw pad, but it was as if he'd hit nothing; there was no force behind it at all.
Instead, Liam felt his punch twisted in another direction, pulling him along with it. With the same momentum, he slammed his redirected punch into the ground, cracking it open.
Robin was stunned. 'What happened? Why did it look like Liam's punch had no power at all?'
Kuma spoke gently, "These punches are useless against me. Whether it's a punch, kick, slash, or even a cannonball, the Paw-Paw Fruit can repel them all…"
'So that teleportation move earlier…' Robin quickly realized. 'Could it be a special movement achieved by repelling the air itself?'
With a crunch, Liam pulled his hand out of the cracked ground.
"Is that so? How about this, then?"
With a slight grin, Liam clenched his fists, and in an instant… a deep black Haki entwined around them.
Kuma looked a little surprised.
Running into the boy Dragon mentioned here on Kuja Island was surprising enough. To think he'd also learned Haki here!
"Take this!"
Seizing the moment while Kuma was slightly distracted, Liam infused his fists with Busoshoku Haki (Armament Haki) and charged toward him.
'Bang!'
Liam threw himself forward, his fists colliding again with Kuma's paw pads.
Kuma: "…"
His blackened fist sank slightly into the soft pink of the paw pads. 'The repelling effect has weakened!' Liam noted to himself. But in the next second, he saw a layer of black Haki cover the pink pads he was pressing against.
'Bang!'
Kuma swung his hand, pushing Liam's fist aside and sending him flying back.
Whirling through the air, Liam caught himself just before crashing into a tree by stepping on the air mid-spin. He turned sharply, bouncing off the trunk, and landed on a branch.
"While the effect of your Fruit's ability is less on me, your own power is still impressive!" Liam remarked, "You really live up to the name Kuma!"
'Whoosh!'
In response, an invisible shockwave hurtled toward him. With barely enough time to react, Liam sensed it with his Kenbunshoku Haki (Observation Haki) and saw that it was the outline of a bear's paw, propelled through the air from Kuma's palm.
A "pressure cannon" of compressed air!
'Boom!'
An explosion sounded against Liam's body.
Robin looked up, concerned, but then relaxed as she saw him still standing unscathed on the branch. His Tekkai had managed to block the strange attack— or so she thought.
"Urgh…"
A trickle of blood appeared at the corner of Liam's mouth. He wiped it away, surprised.
"Not bad—it's like a Gentle Fist technique with Eight Trigrams! It pierced right through to attack the insides!"
Kuma raised his hand silently, somewhat puzzled. 'Gentle Fist? Eight Trigrams?'
"Let's go again!"
With a grin, Liam jumped to the ground, took a deep breath, and locked his gaze on Kuma. "How about another round?"
Without a word, Kuma gauged his strength and launched another compressed air cannon by repelling the air with his paw pads. The invisible blast sped toward Liam.
Liam planted his feet firmly and clenched his fists.
'Bang!'
The air behind him tore, leaving a bear paw-shaped hole in his clothes as the wind surged through.
A glimmer of surprise appeared in Kuma's pale eyes. In front of him, Liam exhaled a long breath of heat, this time completely unharmed.
"Tekkai, huh?" Kuma said calmly, "Reinforcing even your internal organs. Your mastery of Rokushiki is better than some CP agents…"
"You're too kind!"
Liam smirked proudly. But then, countless invisible bear paw shockwaves began raining down on him like a storm.
Kuma unleashed a flurry of compressed air cannons by continuously pushing his hands forward, forming one cannon after another.
"Relentless Pressure Cannon!"
Not willing to face that head-on, Liam smiled faintly, his body moving like a sheet of paper, slipping through the gaps in this "rain of cannon blasts."
…
Meanwhile, on the other side of the forest in Kuja island, a group of young warriors were engaged in hunting training.
The two younger Boa sisters quickly drew their snake bows, arrows poised as they aimed at the stranger before them.
Hancock narrowed her eyes, arms crossed, as she looked warily at the white-bearded old man. "Who are you?"
