Chapter 168: Chapter 168 Small, Unnoticed Decision

When Summer she realized she was no longer in that luxurious guest room.

Her clothes were intact, and her belongings were beside her. She lay on a clean bedspread, sunlight filtering through the curtains, illuminating the floating dust.

Feeling a bit confused, she noticed she was in a regular hotel room. The tumultuous emotions and shifting lights from the previous night seemed like a dream.

'No, it's not a dream.' Summer told herself. She was still wearing the oversized black cotton robe, and her black stockings were still on. The back of her head hurt, a lingering pain from hitting something hard. There was no sign of Hannah, only herself in the room.

'This is all unreasonable.' Summer propped herself up, her long hair cascading down. She recalled seeing the fox mask before she passed out. However, he couldn't tell if it was a hallucination or reality.

In the bright room of the early morning, alone, she watched the dust dance slowly in the beams of light. She remembered her decision last night, a small but significant choice that made her feel at ease, like a stone lifted from her heart.

The sound of a breakfast vendor outside reached her ears. Summer leaned her full weight on the bed, savoring the moment of peace.

At a certain point, a cool breeze blew in through a small gap in the window, making the golden curtain flutter like waves. Summer's eyes lit up, then she jumped out of bed and ran over to the window.

Pulling back the golden curtain with a swish, she saw the morning sky and the small street below.

Summer covered her mouth, tears welling up in her eyes as she saw something lying quietly on the windowsill, a fox mask.

She carefully picked up the mask, hugging it to her chest. Flinging the window open, she leaned out, looking around, hoping to see something.

After a while, she pulled back in, closing the window. Her phone buzzed on the bed. Summer saw messages from Hannah. Her message filled with worry and frustration, asking where she had gone and why the Japanese man was being evasive about her absence.

Summer smiled, feeling calm with her inner dignity intact. Though there were still many questions to resolve, seeing the fox mask dispelled her worries. Right now, she believed everything without the need for extra evidence.

Picking up the room key from the bedside table, she typed a message, "I'm fine now..."

"Good to hear you're safe. But why are you at a hotel? Is it the XXX Hotel? I'll come over right away..."

"...By the way, check to see if the money has arrived."

Summer paused and hugged the mask tightly in her arms.

"Sister Hannah, I went to the hotel midway last night. I don't want the money. Also... I don't want to cosplay anymore."

"Ah, what's the situation? You want to withdraw from the circle?"

"I wanted to do something else."

Summer put down her phone, took three deep breaths, and a youthful smile spreading across her face. She ignored the questioning from Hannah, bouncing off to freshen up and get dressed to start her new day.

"A new day, so tiring!"

The complaint echoed on a street in Los Angeles. The weather was slightly cooler today. Unique shops stood amidst the bustling crowds, a place where people from around the world came and went. Logan walked along such a street, following David and the others, feeling the holiday's crowd.

There was still one day left before the end of the Los Angeles Manga Convention, but having spent two days there, the fan group had done everything they wanted. So, on the third day, they set out to explore the metropolis, planning to head home in the evening.

The temperature wasn't as high as the previous days, but David, carrying a bulging backpack, still broke a sweat after walking a bit. Julia and Sophia were ahead, using their woman's intuition to shop. At times like this, the male companions mainly followed silently, enjoying the scenery.

David looked around at the lively shops, occasionally admiring the well-dressed young women on the street. He inadvertently glanced behind him and slowed his pace.

"Logan, why do you look so tired today? Didn't sleep well?"

David asked with concern. Logan, who was lazily trailing behind, waved his hand dismissively, "It's fine, I'm alright."

But he yawned right after saying that.

"That's strange. You seemed to have plenty of energy the past two days. The effect of exercising is impressive..." David shook his head and wiped the sweat from his forehead, "Hey, wait a minute."

David suddenly gave Logan a suspicious look, sizing him up and down, 'A teenager with a vigorous workout routine, feeling tired in the early morning...'

His mind quickly filled in the blanks, "No way, did you... lose control last night while I was asleep..."

David's expressive face and his gestures made it clear what he was insinuating. Logan's face darkened, and he spat out angrily, "Get lost!"

However, David, who fell into suspicion, wouldn't believe Logan anymore, and touched himself uncomfortably. It was very comfortable to tremble by himself, but having a man trembling next to him was a completely different and terrifying feeling...

David quickly put some distance between himself and Logan, who felt a bit exasperated. He looked up at the long-unseen blue sky, dotted with white clouds, with a gentle breeze replacing the hot wind.

At this moment, Logan's satchel contained some crucial information about the original Manga, including the company addresses, phone numbers, emails, the original Author's address, etc.

'I had obtained this information easily, as expected, but the encounter with that girl last night had indeed taken some effort.'

Initially, Logan had no concern about the impure scene he stumbled upon. However, the situation changed when the girl had second thoughts, and the Japanese man named Shimada turned violent.

Logan didn't know much about the girl's past, but since she regretted her decision and hadn't committed any irreversible actions, after collecting the necessary information, he couldn't just leave the girl alone in that messy room.

After gathering her clothes, phone, ID card, and some other personal items, Logan cleaned up the unexplainable traces in the room and jumped off the 80th floor with the girl on his back.

He was initially worried the strong wind might wake her up, but she remained surprisingly calm, just clinging tightly to him.

Since he had already started helping, he decided to do it thoroughly. Thanks to his prior research, he had some leverage. He took a compromising photo of Shimada and sent it to his phone with a threatening message. This precaution would hopefully prevent any future trouble from Shimada.

Shimada was just a mid-level company employee with no significant background, and being in a foreign country with a typical Japanese work ethic, he likely wouldn't pursue a troublesome matter involving a student who backed out of a shady deal. It was in his best interest to pretend nothing happened.

After delivering the girl to a hotel, Logan hesitated about leaving a note. It wouldn't be a romantic gesture asking her to contact him but rather a reassurance that she needn't worry about Shimada causing trouble.

In the end, Logan only left the fox mask.

The girl recognized the character Hattori, and her eyes before passing out was familiar to him, so Logan believed the other party would understand the gesture.

After a day of stopping and walking on the pedestrian street, which is no more tiring than queuing at the Manga Convention, the Fresno fan club's members bid farewell in the evening sun. They warmly reviewed every detail of the second gathering, and promised each other to reunite for a third. Then, they each headed home.

In the afterglow, the city of Los Angeles entered its repetitive night. Amidst the hundreds of times of being the same, someone will one day change. Although small decisions would go unnoticed in the city, they will eventually bring deep, meaningful change to people.

The changes that were not worth mentioning were integrated into the light of the Los Angeles.

And on the other side of the light, Logan sat on the return bus, resting his head against the window, heading towards his own light.
