Chapter 346: The end of the final battle
When Sobek entered the battlefield, it was as if a meteor had just crashed into the ground. His [Devastating roar] was even more powerful than usual, making every single living thing within a radius of kilometers tremble, regardless of whether he was an enemy, an ally or even just neutral.
Sobek had [Ultimate Mutation], so he was a giant among giants. He used his last ounce of rationality to pass the mutation on to other dinosaurs, and then charged like a train into the opposing army. Missiles, bombs and all kinds of devices were fired at him and exploded, damaging his armor in several parts, but this did not even slow him down. As far as the privates' bullets were concerned, they were like grains of sand thrown against a wall.
The gigantic dinosaur advanced at least twenty paces every minute and tore apart anything in its path. Clawed, kicked, tailed, bitten, even headbutted: dozens and dozens of soldiers were torn apart by them every second.
Sobek could have used more efficient methods to fight, but for the first time in his life, he didn't mind looking like a bloodthirsty beast. All the anger he had built up against the human species was released at that precise moment, and anyone who stood in his path could only say their last prayers for him.
Within five minutes, Sobek had entered enemy territory completely, leaving a trail of death and destruction in his wake. By now, the soldiers didn't even try to fight anymore: as soon as they saw him approaching, they abandoned their position and fled. The commanders didn't even try to stop them: they knew it would be useless. By now, the only defense was entrusted to turrets and tanks.
Sobek was starting to feel the shots of the missiles crashing into his skin. His armor was now badly damaged and even though [Reinforced skin] enhanced by [Supreme Mutation] could withstand a pressure of 300 tons, his defense was starting to falter. Even with [Regeneration] boosted ten times it was best not to take any chances.
Sobek opened his jaws and activated [Atomic Mutation].
The blue beam emerged from his throat and struck full blown turrets more than half a kilometer away, reducing them to smoldering molten metal in seconds. He barely had to move his head to wipe out at least a third of the enemy's war arsenal. Even a large part of the imperial army that happened to be near the turrets was reduced to atoms within a thousandth of a second.
But Sobek wasn't done yet. He closed his jaws and then activated [Fire Mutation]. Flames exploded from his body and shot in all directions, burning everything. The tanks nearby were literally melted down. Every living thing within a hundred yards was cooked alive.
This terrifying spectacle obviously had a substantial impact on troop morale. The imperial soldiers, already tried by the clash and discouraged, finally collapsed and lost all will to fight. On the contrary, the dinosaurs were as if galvanized by the behavior of their pack leader and followed him in his attack, however keeping a safe distance to avoid ending up torn to pieces as well.
For the Imperials, that was a nightmare. Sobek looked like a demon from Hell. There was nothing they could do to stop him, just turn and run and hope he didn't notice them. But unfortunately for them, Sobek's senses were too powerful for anything to hide from him, and his speed was too much faster than a human's. Trying to escape him was like trying to escape a wave in the middle of the ocean.
The rage in the spinosaurus' eyes, combined with all the blood that covered it and its gigantic size, were enough to evaporate the courage from even the bravest hearts. Looking at him, the imperials had the impression of looking at Death himself. Some ran away, some screamed, some called their parents, some begged their deity to protect them. He did no good. As soon as Sobek reached them, they vanished from his existence, either crushed under his paws, or torn apart by his claws, or directly swallowed by his mouth.
Sobek had never left survivors in any fight. This time it would be no different. No one would have left the battlefield alive.
Sobek would probably continue with his animal rampage until every single human being was reduced to crumbs, but fortunately what little common sense he had left warned him that it was better to stop. Thirteen minutes had already passed and he was in danger of freaking out by continuing to use [Supreme Mutation]. Reluctantly, he forced himself to turn off the mutation and return to his normal size. The remaining Imperials breathed a sigh of relief, probably thinking that he had decided to stop, but Sobek was not of the same opinion: even if he could no longer use [Supreme Mutation], he was not going to stop fighting. As everyone watched in terror, he activated [Gamma Mutation] and pulled his [Personal weapon] out from his [Inventory].
"Brothers!" he roared, making himself heard within several kilometers with [Devastating roar]. "It's time to end it! Follow me, and destroy this enemy with me! No more delays, no more waiting! Fight, and let no one stop as long as a single enemy is still alive, even if you have to track them down one at a time!"
The dinosaurs roared in response and charged into the ranks of the enemy like a river. The ground shook under their footsteps as if an earthquake were taking place. With their turrets and tanks destroyed and the few remaining focused on Sobek, the dinosaurs had nothing left to fear and charged the soldiers like a rampage.
Blood, limbs, heads and bones flew everywhere as the dinosaurs destroyed and killed everything and everyone. The Imperials could do nothing to stop their charge. Many of the larger dinosaurs had even given up using weapons and were using only their mouths and claws, perhaps driven by their primitive instincts. Any kind of strategy had been forgotten: now only brute force mattered.
Sobek advanced at the head of the dinosaur army, harvesting anything like his [Personal weapon]. By now he was completely covered in blood and several human limbs were emerging from his mouth as they had stuck to his teeth. Sobek didn't even seem to notice.
His eyes focused on the last remaining turrets. Although by now the defeat of the imperial army was certain, it seemed that the enemy commanders wanted to fight to the end. Evidently, they understood that the dinosaurs weren't going to let them live anyway. The turrets were continuing to fire, but they weren't going to do much longer.
His [Personal anti-aircraft] appeared on his back. "GONE!" he roared, and dozens of missiles were fired in all directions. Within moments, the last of the Empire's artillery pieces were reduced to a pile of rubble.
But Sobek was still not satisfied. He activated [Metal Mutation] and lifted up the remains of the turrets, then slammed them into the ground with force and crushed hundreds of human beings every second. Not satisfied, he then broke them into pieces and threw them in all directions as if they were projectiles. Thousands of soldiers were mowed down in an instant.
Sobek unleashed all his powers. Some humans were crushed by his paws, some were mowed down by his claws, some ended up in his stomach; some were blown away by his roar, some were slaughtered by his [Personal weapon], some were reduced to a heap of blood and flesh by the missiles of his [Personal anti-aircraft]; some were blasted from within causing the water in their bodies to expand by [Water Mutation], others were frozen alive by [Ice Mutation], others were charred by [Heat Mutation], and so on.
At that moment the Imperials were facing not one, but two armies. One was the dinosaur army; the other was Sobek himself, who alone was worth a whole army. The mightiest human military might was nothing against the might of the mightiest creature ever born on Eden.
*********
Thanks to the drones and their men on the ground, the leaders of the Eden Union were following the clash in real time. After all, they had to be sure they could react in case of dire need. However, there didn't seem to be any need: victory was now virtually certain.
Unfortunately, however, they could not yet issue the state of all-clear. Although most of the nuclear bombs had already been eliminated, there were still many left, and based on the [Supreme instinct] of the dinosaurs, they had not yet been neutralized. Until the atomic bombs were all destroyed, that crisis would not end.
For the moment, though, there was little they could do. The Empire knew how to hide its secrets well. They had given the dinosaurs all possible assistance and information; now, they could only wait. And watch.
"Jesus…" Queen Mackenzie murmured as she watched Sobek's fury. "Good thing he is on our side"
"For now" Jocelyne whispered. "Let's make sure he stays that way"
Pauline nodded. She fully agreed with the president of Beleriard. Whatever happened in the future, Sobek should never become their enemy. He doubted that if that happened, they would ever be able to stop him.
"You needn't worry" Al said, who was in the room with them. As negotiator it was his job to stay put, even if he would have preferred to take the field with the others. "The pack leader has no warlike intentions towards you. And after everything that's happened in the last twenty-four hours, I seriously doubt he'll ever want anything other than peace"
"Then we will make that peace last forever" Jocelyne said. Pauline nodded at that statement. After all, all of them now wanted nothing more than peace, a lasting peace.
Suddenly Jocelyne's cell phone started vibrating. The president of the Beleriard left the room and entered a secluded room. "Hello?"
"President, I'm Nero" answered the mechanical voice on the other side. "We tracked down Wafner"
