I will strive beyond this cursed bloodline!

Chapter 68: The Cathedral of Sin... And Learning a terrible truth

After getting the marriage certificate secured within her reliquary, Elizabeth had done everything she had set up, so all that was left...

"Shadow step," Elizabeth started by invoking her favorite skill.

Just like before in Avalon, Elizabeth felt the rush of someone coming to them, only this one actually managed to get close enough to them. Not enough to stop her, and to be honest, Elizabeth MAY have given a rude gesture to the entity's mana.

It may have been Echidna... To be honest, Elizabeth had no doubts that it was Echidna, she probably got the notification as soon as the data went to the servers, that a S-Tier had married within her domain. And since most of the S-Tier registered were people she knew...

Elizabeth knew for a fact that she would come and check, which was part of the reason why Elizabeth decided to marry here and not in another country. She could have married within Izanami, go and check on the [Elementalist] and ensure his allegiances.

But if she could bother Echidna, Elizabeth would choose to do so.

"Was that necessary?" Rossie asked when they landed after the Shadow Step.

This time Elizabeth hadn't really gone for the dramatic slow shadow hug, and instead flash shadowed them all to take them away, she was not going to risk it within the domain of Echidna.

"Yes," Elizabeth said, nodding and checking their surroundings, there was no evidence of any of Echidna's shadow following them. "Wanted to ensure she wouldn't follow us."

Elizabeth wouldn't mind hitting again, Echidna, of course, but she had more important plans for this day. What plans?

"And where are we?" Rena said walking around the room they had landed, it was a normal room with a sofa and a small table set up. It was a waiting room.

"Ah this... I really wanted to show you this at least once," Elizabeth said walking to one of the windows and opening the curtains so they could see the exterior, "This is what used to be my Soulscape...Welcome..."

Elizabeth said with a dramatic flair as Rossie and Rena walked to the window. As they peered at what was beyond the window, they could see a complex made of skyscrapers surrounding them, and in the middle, a cathedral that seemed to be being enveloped in azure crystal that grew around the walls.

"To the Cathedral that used to be within my Soul." Elizabeth finished saying, she wasn't sure what to call it anymore, but if she was going to use her current moniker...

Then the Cathedral of Sin? The Cathedral of Shadows? The Cathedral of Dragons?

There was a way to name it, but Elizabeth was not going to worry about it for now. Since there were a couple more important things to talk about.

"...This was...your Soulscape?" Rossie asked as her eyes softened and she placed a hand on the window frame, "Wasn't...Isn't...Isn't Terra Nexus your Soulscape?"

"It is, it has been, and it will probably will be, no two ways to change it or evolve into something else at this point, all the changes will be turning it from a dead planet to a live one." Elizabeth said nodding, "But I was not always able to wield these kinds of powers, can you imagine baby Elizabeth wielding the might of a billion souls and a dead planet?"

"You say it as if you had been training this power for ages." Rena said from the side, looking at the Cathedral in the middle, "I assume you used this as a filter? Be it unconsciously or not, as a way to protect yourself."

"Something like that," Elizabeth said nodding at the theory, "To be precise the previous manager of my Soul used it, they turned this into a pseudo mind scape and used it as a base to filter the Soulscape under here and give me an easier way."

"The previous manager? Ah...the man you keep cursing?" Rena said nodding, "Alexanders was it?"

"I am so glad he never met you," Elizabeth said, "The asshole had a way with words, did you know my first meeting with him ended with him using a Railgun on me?"

"He what?!?!?" Rossie said owrriedly while ripping open Elizabeth's blouse, leaving aside the fact that this was almost three years ago. "I'll kill him!"

"Rossie...." Elizabeth said as the pink-haired girl checked her chest, and perhaps pinched a few spots that weren't relevant for the medical check-up, "Not now, this is serious."

"....Not now it is, okay. I can live with that," Rossie said nodding while cleaning some of the drool that had slipped into her otherwise worried face.

"But, even if he met you two..." Elizabeth said remembering one of her interactions with the blonde asshole, "...It would have been fine...? I mean, his type was the Gothic one...He did make a pass at Alice... or well, my Alice form."

"....So he was into you...?" Rena asked confused, "Or well, into a version of you?"

"It was weird, yes," Elizabeth admitted to it, "More so if we took into consideration the fact that he was my previous life... The blonde asshole really is weird, who even would go after an alternate version of themselves, there is a limit to how much of a weirdo one can be."

Elizabeth was obviously ignoring the fact that she herself did feel some attraction to at least one version of herself. Not towards Alice or Elzbeth of course.

But she did think that Chloe was cute, and that technically was a version of herself.

"...I still don't think you could ever be anything but you Eli-Eli," Rossie said, shaking her head, "I know the whole thing with [Heroes] is that we transmigrated... But we all retained most of our identity to some degree right?"

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

"To some degree, but while you all retained most of what made you all you. I threw that away." Elizabeth said shaking her head, "My talent, my power, my soul was cleansed and only the base remained."

That had been the fundamental difference, Elizabeth knew that for sure, because that was among her first memories, meeting the entity that reincarnated her. Meeting...

She wasn't sure who she met, it should have been the purple woman who reigns over Zaanam. But for some reason she had the impression that it wasn't her who she met.

"I know for a fact that my soul was cleansed, and so I turned like this. When all the filth, talent, genius, and raw power were cleansed, all that remained was this cute girl you see here." Elizabeth wasn't sure if she would think of Alexanders as someone cute or handsome, but she was sure as hell she was smoking hot. And that was not pride speaking.

"And for that we are thankful," Rena said nodding, "I mean, being saved by you wouldn't have been the same if you had been a man."

"I guess... I would love you? I am not sure to be honest, part of the allure that called me to you wasn't only the body. But the instinctual feeling of your soul. But well...Maybe it would have been easier to entice you?" Rossie said mumbling to herself some very dangerous things.

Rossie? This was PG-13...mostly...kind of...It was right? They hadn't done anything wrong (Yet)!

"It doesn't matter, that blonde asshole isn't me. And I am not him, nor could I ever be him..." Elizabeth said shaking her head, "This Cathedral is the last thing...or the first thing he ever left me, the Cathedral serves both as a tomb, a reliquary and a reminder of what he failed to achieve."

"It does...?" Rossie said, giving a second look through the window at the massive building that stood in the middle.

"The Cathedral where the Dragon of Calamity slumbered after his utter failure." Elizabeth said sighing, "I am unsure if he meant it to be like that, or if he even really wanted to resurrect himself, he could have overtaken me at any point, now that I have grown the seed that sprout from the ashes of what he was I know it for sure."

Elizabeth said closing her fist, her power... her Inheritance told her as much, Alexanders always went about how he feared her parents...

And she had accepted that at face value, everyone knew how much of a monster they were, and that was without taking into account the rumors about them killing gods, not that Elizabeth doubted those rumors, her sports drink was a proof of such a thing.

Papa and Mother were able to kill Worlds, so killing gods never felt too out of the range of things they could do. But Alexanders? The blonde asshole? He was on another level. What had she gleaned from his remains?

It made her pale.

Even when she lost all her control and reason, even when she fully embraced the Inheritance, even when she became The Dragon Empress of Debauchery... She still wasn't sure she would ever be able to fight Alexanders as The Dragon of Calamity.

Their names had meaning, Elizabeth was someone who had been tainted and in turn embraced Sin. She was shaped by it and all her powers had some resonance towards it.

And so, she was The Debauchery Dragon. But then what about Alexanders?

"Well, I still will be thankful to him," Rossie said, hugging Elizabeth, "Because it was thanks to his decisions that you are here today. Even if he could have taken over at any moment he never did right?"

"Even if your claim that he was more powerful, he still decided to let you live. For whatever reason it was." Rena said nodding from the side, "That is something I can be thankful to him."

Elizabeth knew why of course, she had seen glimpses about why Alexanders did what he did, guilt, shame, grief...

He was someone who had been twisted and corrupted by a Calamity, was he the source of it? Or was he someone who was affected by it? Elizabeth knew not.

Those memories were never given or shown to her. What was it that made Alexanders into The Calamity Dragon? Now, at this point, when she was about to finish the Seven Series Dragon Heart. The last creation of Alexanders. The one that he never managed to finish...

She still did not know the answer. Did he fail to make it because his talent failed?

Ridiculous, Elizabeth was a genius, but she wasn't sure if she could ever amount to what Alexanders had managed, their specialities differed too much. While Elizabeth brute-forced most things, Alexanders seemed to specialize in fine-tuning.

So that meant that whatever was needed for the Seven Series Dragon heart, it was not a technique.

Was it mana that failed? Alexanders had a whole world at his disposal, and from the attitude of the Shadow Dragons that had arrived within Terra Nexus, he also had the full cooperation of his planet and its inhabitants.

So what had failed?

Elizabeth would find out soon enough, as soon as she finished the Dragon Heart, but she only hoped it wouldn't derail her plans. Worst case scenario she would need to dispose of the thing entirely.

And that would put her at greater risk of derrailing her plans, she was sure that at this point she could manage the seven cardinal Sin's mana. But the dragon heart made it easier to manage.

Also her identity was that of a Dragon, so living without a Dragon Heart would be dangerous. Not that she had no plans, she had a few plans about what to do and what could help her deal with that.

But that was besides the point, she had more important things to worry right now!

"Well, don't like him too much, since he isn't coming back." Elizabeth said, shaking her head, that the fact that both her girlfriends once more reassured her was nice, even if unnecessary. How many reassurances could a girl need anyway ?"I made sure of it..."

And that was the important bit, Elizabeth had combed her own Soul a few times, her mana channels, her Sin Mana and even the Seven Series Dragon Heart.

There was absolutely no evidence of Alexanders, The Dragon of Calamity or anything. As if they had truly moved on... Or left.

She worried for Alexa, of course, the little girl had disappeared into nothing around Advent, and nothing her Shadow Dragons did came out with any result.

Even asking Aura and Mira had resulted in nothing, they couldn't find her, or any proof of the girl even being around, but the same could be said about Alexanders...

Something about not being able to peek at whatever the blonde asshole had done within the Cathedral/Library. The man was powerful even when only being a mind construct that could manipulate some mana.

"Okay... So, did you bring us here only for that?" Rossie asked after the small hug they shared.

"One reason was so you could see the place we will marry from the outside, so you know about it beforehand and nothing surprises you two." Elizabeth said snapping her fingers and materializing blue holographic screens, each one a different camera that projected the Cathedral of Sin from multiple views.

The exterior, the interior, the multiple sites around, a few cafeterias and restaurants set up, hotels, pubs, cantinas, and bars were even set up. Izanami-style inns, hot springs (Elizabeth had asked for a private one to be set up in her accommodations...not that they would get to use it while in Zaanam).

"That is...quite fancy for a place that we will use for an afternoon..." Rossie said as she took in the views, "These hotels Eli-Eli... they put to shame most of the five stars one I have seen..."

"Yeah, Mordred went a couple measures further than I had guessed she would." Elizabeth said nodding, "But we need to send the correct message, and that is what we are doing."

Elizabeth said, and one of the blue screens shifted forward, showing a couple of men walking around. Behind them stood a group of men wearing robes and weird pointy hats, also a couple of soldiers wearing power armor similar to the one Papa had used as his Hero suit.

"They are the envoys from Avalon, here are from Camelot, Izanami..." Elizabeth said as multiple views started showing, people walking around and brandishing scanners, devices, sensors, the Izanami folks even summoned their minions to try and investigate the place.

Not that the minions could go far away from them.

"We must remind you that we will not be responsible for whatever happens to your Shikigami if they leave the hallways." The voice of Mordred came from one of the screens.

She was leading the Izanami delegation.

"So they are already here?" Rossie said looking at the screens, "What are they doing?"

"Making sure this isn't a trap, as soon as our re-evaluation hit the mainstream servers from the UN they went and accepted the wedding invitations." Elizabeth said smirking, "It does help that the second wave included my new moniker."

"So the wedding will..." Rena said turning to Elizabeth, "... really happen with all of them looking?"

"We are already married," Elizabeth said pulling Rena towards her, "This is more of a show of force so they understand what will happen if they mess with us. We will deal with the Italians, the other [Nine Stars]... And of course it will only happen if you are okay with it."

"Of course," Rossie said, nodding, "As much as I would love to see the annoyed face of the Italian bitch and the stuck-up Council of Magical Girls... You are also important Ren-Ren."

"I'll be fine," Rena said shaking her head, "But if we are married...then do we need to wait?"

"Huh?" Elizabeth asked as the question came out of Rena's mouth.

"Huh?" Rossie also seemed surprised by it.

"I mean... we are already married aren't we?" Rena continued speaking in that innocent tone, as if she wasn't even aware of what she was saying, "So why are we waiting?"

Why indeed?

Why was Elizabeth waiting?

What was she waiting for?

She was a married girl now.

It was legal... She had the document to prove it. It was even blessed with Prana and would survive the end of the world, in the face of men she was legally married.

In the face of [gods] she was married.

Well, not in their face, she wanted nothing to do with random gods (More so since the closer ones were her parents...and at least one of them had admitted to wanting to watch Elizabeth screwing her girlfriends).

So...

"I...guess we....can.... do it....?" Elizabeth said as she felt a shiver run all the way from the top of her head to her feet. Why did she feel that?

Because Rossie's eyes turned like those of a predator who had locked in her next prey.

Did...Did Elizabeth require an adult? She was an adult...technically...legally....

Help?
