Chapter 375: A Mage Party?
Zeke raised an eyebrow at Lillian's explanation, his eyes flashing with an intimidating light as the scars on his face wrinkled. But then his lips curled upwards into a soft and relieved smile.
Zeke then whispered, "Is that so...? I'm relieved then."
Zeke then paused for a moment, watching as Lillian and Millis stared at him intently. He then coughed into his hand as he added, "I-I mean, that's a shame. We had almost reached a new record of money gathered."
Lillian watched as Zeke walked back to his station and welcomed another group of mages into the mine. She couldn't help but smile slightly at how he reacted.
Under Zeke's intimidating scars and stoic face, he was rather gentle. Almost like a certain Assassin she knew.
Lillian froze and held her chin and thought for a split moment before mentally concluding, 'Nah. Marionette's much cuter.'
Lillian then watched as Zeke led the group at the very front into the mine before coming back shortly after.
Zeke held up his clipboard and looked towards the group in front of Lillian. It was made up of 3 individuals, two of whom were women, and the last was a tall man in thick armour—taller than even Zeke.
"Alright, may I know your group's name? And if you aren't a group I suggest making one before attempting—" Looking up from his clipboard, Zeke's face paled and hardened as he recognised the man's face.
The man, who was staring down Zeke, scrutinised the captain's face. He had wondered why Zeke had suddenly become pale all of a sudden. But then, he felt a sense of familiarity inside his chest and mind.
And after taking in Zeke's head shape and his body mannerisms, the man couldn't help but beam with a mocking grin, "Well, well, well! If it isn't the whimpy dog that we left here, how's it been?"
Lillian, who watched as Zeke came face-to-face with the man, recalled that the 3 in front of her used to be the captain's old mage party before being kicked out.
A mage party that was rather known for its "effictiveness"—it was known as Brexistence.
The man in armour was named Brexten, and the two ladies in the back were named Gloria and Historia—twins. But they were incredibly irrelevant, so much so that Lillian was surprised she even remembered their name.
Lillian let out a small internal squeal of excitement as she watched this unfold.
Zeke coughed into his fist and scribbled down a name onto his clipboard before holding out his hand, "To think we would have a group like yourself here... Since I assume you'll be entering to face the monster, please hand out the fee needed to enter."
"Hm?" Brexten hummed lowly at Zeke's words before laughing, "Oh, come on! We're old party members! Surely, you can do me a solid and let us three through?"
Brexten then glanced back, looking down at Lillian and Millis with a smug grin, "And from what I see, besides those two pipsqueaks, my girls, and you, no one can see if you let us in for free. So, how about it?"
Lillian's face twitched at his words.
Pipsqueak? Why was she suddenly being targeted with stray words all of a sudden? She knew this guy was bad, but she didn't know he was this bad.
Lillian turned to the side and found Millis's eyes and nose flaring with an insulted and offended look. Lillian watched as the Heroine pumped up her arms and began marching forward, almost with the intention of picking a fight with the man.
"WHO ARE YA CALLIN' PIPSQUEAK, YA DOOFU— MMH!?"
Lillian slapped a hand around Millis's mouth, giggling quietly as Brexten glanced back. She waved him off, "Don't mind my friend here... She had Tourette's and was just going through one of her moments, hope you can understand."
"Oh? Well, I definitely understand!" Brexten shook his head, "Trust me, it's best to not be paired up with someone with that disability, it's a nightmare to deal with."
After saying that, Brexten turned around and pushed Zeke into the mine, forcing the captain to show him the way as he was followed by the two ladies behind him.
Millis, once freed, growled at the man's back before spitting on the ground, "Curse that rat bastard. I'm bulked and swolled as shit! Just because his ass is taller doesn't mean we're pipsqueak!"
Millis then rolled up her sleeve and flexed her bicep at Lillian, pointing at the bump and tapping it furiously, "Ya see this here? That's some muscle—!"
Lillian sighed and interrupted the Heroine.
"I get it..."
Lillian knew that Millis was annoyed, and so was she. If she had to be honest, she would rather people know that she's strong rather than she's weak, it makes he feel a lot better about herself.
'What if I cause some sort of accident?' Lillian's intrusive thoughts bled through as a dark glint flashed through her eyes.
This thought immediately disappeared as she caught sight of Millis again. Lillian sighed and believed it would be best to keep those thoughts to herself and not act on them.
'Spending time around Marionette can both be a bad and good influence...'

As Brexten and his group wandered down into the mine, Zeke couldn't help but curse fate for this abrupt meet-up with his past party mates.
He then stiffened at the sound of his ex-leader's voice:
"So, Zeke... This is what you've been doing for the past...?"
Zeke gripped the brim of his military cap and pulled it down over his face. He continued to walk forward and intended not to answer Brexten's question.
But that was only until he was bombarded with a multitude of comments and questions that he finally caved in.
Standing before the elevator, Zeke spun on his heel and straightened his back, glaring at the man before him as the twins giggled at his gaze.
Zeke's face twitched with irritation as he stared at Brexten's face.
"Yes. After you three stranded me here on my own without any money, I've managed to find myself a job working for the Blackridge family. Have I satisfied your curiousity?"
Brexten clicked his tongue, huffing.
"Tch. You speak as though I didn't do you a massive favour, whimpy. Don't forget all those times you ran away and hid under that element of yours while I did all the work."
Brexten then flicked the cap off Zeke's head and caused it to fall and dirty itself on the ground.
Brexten laughed, followed by the twins behind him, who glanced at each other first before giggling along.
Brexten then gestured towards the keypad, "Now open the doors to the elevator, and we'll put down this monster for this little-ass town."
Zeke picked up his cap and brushed off the dust. And after putting it on, he said...
