Chapter 373: The Solution is a...?
Zeke, who watched Wilfred take up a wine glass, concluded what the man might be currently thinking about.
Zeke then opened his mouth and said:
"One last thing, Lord Blackridge, but I'm sure it would be best to let you know that Barrel Moles are known to feed off of minerals as well."
Wilfred's expression then cracked, "Are you telling me these rodents are eating into my cavern's values?" He slowly placed the wine glass back down before shooting up onto his feet.
"Then we can't possibly wait for a couple of days! If there's truly a lot of these monsters, then my mountain will be bled dry of all of its ores! We can't possibly let that happen!"
Wilfred's mind raced. And only after a moment of thought, an idea lit up like an ingenious lightbulb.
"I got it! We shall hold a contest on who can bring down this beast. I'm sure there are plenty of mages inside this town and large parties of them! How about we let them handle it?!"
Catolia, the Manager of the Merchants' guild, nodded energetically to the idea. Catolia even saw a way that their town could profit from this idea.
"Yes, yes, Lord Blackridge! We could even charge them a small price for them to attempt it for a large prize! I'm sure everyone would come flocking to it!"
"Excellent idea...! Wait, prize?" Wilfred slowly lowered himself back into his seat, worried that the cost was going to be large. "Is this coming out of my pocket?"
"W-well, Lord Blackridge, this is merely a small price to pay for a long term of profit. Like you said, we can't possibly allow those filthy rodents to eat up your mountain's precious minerals~..."
Wilfred nodded slowly and then looked towards everyone else. He then asked:
"Well, then. Since we got A plan, does anyone want to add more onto this or does anyone have any suggestions?"
While some did go on to speak up, it was mainly to add more to the idea. No one raised their voice, which satisfied Wilfred, but that was until...
Zeke objected.
"But won't those people risk losing their lives, Lord Blackridge? Surely, if those people enter and lose their lives or suffer fatal injuries, it might impact our town's reputation—!"
Wilfred waved his hand dismissively, "We can think things further tomorrow. For now..." Wilfred clapped his hands and caused a flood of servants to fill the room with drinks and meals. "Let us dine and congratulate ourselves on our brilliant ideas!"
Zeke sat back down and threw a glance towards his colleague, Bob, finding him stuffing his face. Zeke couldn't help but feel something in his stomach churn, and his brows furrowed.
"Tch..."
Seeing that he couldn't do anything, Zeke just went along with those around him and tried his best to enjoy the meal given.

As the sun rose over the town, mages began to find signs and posters about a mysterious monster that lived inside the mines. It spoke that if a group of mages were able to exterminate it, they would be given a hefty prize plus the corpse.
And because of that, the morning was suddenly met with a humongous line of mages that stretched from the start of the mine and all the way to the train station.
Mages armed with swords, armour, staves, and even firearms lined up to face the monster for this hefty prize. Lillian and Millis watched as this line went by from inside a cafe.
Drinking out of a milkshake, Millis stared at the line of mages outside and spoke in an incredulous manner:
"Yikes... These guys sure are patient to be waiting in line for this long... It's almost as big as that line ya and Red-eyes waited for that ferris wheel!"
Millis turned her eyes to Lillian, who was holding the handle of a coffee mug in her right hand and a pamphlet in her left.
Lillian's face twitched and her lips twisted upwards into a wry smile, "Did you really stalk us on our date...? And it wasn't even that big of a line, anyway..."
"All lines are big if ya think about it!" Millis folded her arms with a huff, "Any kind of waiting sucks, especially for a ferris wheel or rollercoaster."
Lillian stared at the Heroine's face with a soft gaze. They weren't wrong in a way; waiting does suck.
"Anyway! What's the prize again for this whole thing goin' on? Must be pretty important."
"Apparently, it's 75% of all income made from the competition. Since you need to pay to actually attempt, I assume they mean the money made from that."
"... And how much do ya need to enter?"
Lillian thought for a moment, "I think I recall... someone saying it's like 100 semis. Expensive, but I think it's to deter mages that aren't strong enough to make that much."
"D-damn..." Millis then tilted her head, "But what kind of mage can't even make 100 semis? That's like... An E-rank monster, I think."
Lillian almost coughed on her drink at what the Heroine said, mainly because she was one of those mages that didn't have much hope of making that much money...
"W-well... You're just an exception, Millis. Like you said, you are very strong~..."
"Ah, ha! I'm glad ya can finally see my brilliance!" Millis turned her nose up, the feeling of pride swelling inside her chest at Lillian's compliment. The Heroine then downed the entire milkshake before crying about the brainfreeze.
Millis then watched as Lillian got up. She raised an eyebrow and asked:
"Ya off somewhere?"
"Not for long, just gotta give Marionette a call."
Millis's eyebrow then slowly raised in a teasing manner as the corners of her lips curled up, "Ah~... Don't take too long! And make sure ya find somewhere private just in case ya wanted to do something spicy~."
Lillian's face contorted and her brows furrowed as she slowly backed away from the table and towards the exit. She slowly shook her head side-to-side, disagreeing with Millis, who nodded up and down with a broad grin.
