Chapter 355: Bitterness Against Alcohol?
Marionette then turned to Millis, who nodded at what she had just said. She, too, remembered Lillian getting drunk easily... Although she was also ridiculously drunk at the time.
Marionette, staring at the Heroine, said:
"You are also lightweight, Vellen, from what I recall."
"H-hey! What's with the stray!?"
"Stray?"
Marionette slowly tilted her head to the side, subtly adjusting her hold on Lillian, who continued to murmur groggily.
Millis, seeing that the Assassin was confused by what she meant, sighed before waving her hand dismissively.
She then muttered:
"Never mind..."
"I see..."
Marionette then pulled out her phone and called her driver, intending for him to come pick her up by the side of the street.
Millis, hearing as she gave the address, tucked her hands in her pocket as she looked up towards the sky, ignoring the stars and gazing at the beautiful crescent moon in the sky.
And if she had to be honest, she felt that it did a much better job at illuminating the street than the street lights, ironically.
The Heroine then abruptly asked:
"So, how was it? Your birthday, I mean."
Marionette, who was looking for any signs of her driver, glanced at Millis. She was silent for a few moments before letting out a small hum of acknowledgement.
"It was unlike any other... I'm even upset to know that it's only a few mere hours away from the next day." She then turned to Millis with a warm smile, "And it was partially because of your help. Thank you, Millis."
Millis, staring at the woman's face, slowly widened her eyes.
She then gave a soft snort as she wrapped her arms behind her head before turning away with an almost shy look on her face, "No prob... It's what friends do for each other, right?"
"Mhm..."
The two then became awkwardly silent.
Eventually, Millis broke it by asking with her usual teasing grin, "So! Did ya guys do it? Or are ya planning to do it as soon as you guys get home?"
Marionette raised an eyebrow, but then slowly widened her eyes in realisation. She then sighed in disappointment as she glanced at Lillian's drunken expression.
"I was actually meaning to progress to that point today as soon as we got back to her apartment. However... It seems like I won't be able to with how she is currently, right now."
"Yikes... Cockblocked by alcohol... That's really funny if ya think about it. Hahahaha~"
Marionette rolled her eyes, but she couldn't help but find it humorous as well, if she ignored the burning bitterness she had for it at this very moment.
Soon enough, her driver arrived. After gently placing Lillian inside, she looked towards Millis and asked:
"Would you like to be droven anywhere?"
"Hm? Ah, no. I live quite close around here. But thanks for the offer!"
Marionette nodded and moved towards the inside of the limousine. However, right as she was about to shut the door, she heard Millis say:
"Happy birthday, Marionette." The Heroine raised a hand and waved at the Assassin, wearing an unfamiliar smile, "I hope you have a good rest of your night."
Marionette, hearing this, smirked and got inside the car. And once Millis saw the woman, she closed the door on her, and she couldn't help but give a wry smile at this.
The Heroine sighed, shaking her head at this and shrugging her shoulders. It wasn't that big of a deal.
She then placed her hands inside her pockets and turned away, intending to walk away until she noticed the car window slide down.
She blinked as a sudden object was thrown towards her. She stumbled back, shooting her hands out of her pocket as she juggled what she could describe as... A "wad" of cash...?
She looked back at the car, finding Marionette smiling at her. She then heard the woman say:
"Thank you, Millis. I hope you have a good night, yourself."
Once the window was rolled up, the limousine drove off. However, that wasn't Millis's main focus. Instead, there was a stack of cash lying in her hands.
There were one hundred bills stacked on each other, with each worth 100 Semis. She had just been given 10,000 Semis!
"Holy sugar mommy! I'm fucking rich!" Jumping on the spot, she immediately dashed towards the nearest bank machine to deposit into her account before speeding back home.
She was going to spend it in one seating.
***
"That much!? And what exactly did you spend it on?"
Having just left the diner, the two went off to find a nearby hotel for Lillian and Viesta.
Lillian had her eyes narrowed on Millis, who noticed that she now had the girl's full keen attention.
The Heroine grinned broadly before pulling out her phone and entering an app. She then held her screen to Lillian's face, who squinted for a brief moment and found a rather charming woman holding a lecherous pose.
Lillian's face immediately darkened as she realised what Millis had done.
"YOU SPENT IT ALL ON A GACHA GAME!?"
Lillian stared at the Heroine in bafflement before quickly closing her mouth, noticing she had attracted a lot of attention to them.
Millis, who was covering her ears, let out a sigh before waving her hand, "Look. If ya were given the chance to get the character ya have been wanting for since the launch of a game, of course ya would go all in. Gotta max 'em out, ya know?"
Lillian's eyes widened in shock; she couldn't believe what she was hearing. There was no possible way that Millis had actually spent ten thousand Semis on a game, right?
That was like... 15,000 dollars in her old world!
'Wait, is that even the right conversion?' Lillian thought for a moment.
She could barely remember the correct conversion, but that shouldn't matter, for all she needed to know was that Millis had spent a "butt-load" of money on a video game.
Millis, noticing the look she was getting, slowly backed away, "H-hey, bro... It's my money... But don't worry, I didn't actually spend all of it, alright? I still got..."
