Chapter 349: Bragging A Little?
"Well, we will actually be making a detour to one of the towns up ahead." Viesta stated, glancing out the window and looking over the grass plains.
Lillian's ear twitched at this. Her memories of this scene flashed through her mind. If she recalled, they were going to just stock up on supplies for the trip overseas.
Lillian nodded and didn't ask any further, which at first caught Viesta's attention, but was soon lost as both of them admired the outside scenery.
After a while, Lillian tore her gaze from the window and glanced around their room.
It was a spacious quarter for travellers who were planning to go long distances. The walls were decorated with posh patterns and caused the atmosphere to feel 'old-timey'.
Either way, the qualities of the furniture were satisfactory nonetheless for a premium room.
'It's going to take an hours or so to reach the town.' She sighed.
Even with a bullet train, it was going to take a while. But, there wasn't much point in whining about it.
Viesta, seeing as Lillian was about to pull out her phone, decided to make some small talk.
"So, may I ask why your partner is currently unavailable for council work?"
"Huh? Oh, uh..." Lillian scratched the side of her head, "She's got some stuff and needs to go back to her estate. She should be back in a couple months, though, which is a bit saddening."
Viesta nodded, then sighed:
"Same with mine... Apparently, he had some family issues back in his own estate. I'm really am glad you decided to join me, it would've been especially boring on my own."
Lillian smiled and waved her hand dismissively:
"Yeah, no problem. I got the role, so I might as well do some help. This also would help towards my merits, right?"
"Oh, absolutely! Wait, how did you know about the merit?" Viesta raised an eyebrow, scrutinising Lillian's face. "A common lass like you shouldn't be able to know about that unless part of something."
Lillian smirked at the woman's suspicion, "One of the academy's staff slipped up, that's all."
"Is that right? How clumsy!" Viesta let out an exasperated sigh, kicking her legs onto the table, surprising Lillian for a split second.
However, a moment later, the sounds of knocks echoed from the door.
Knock. Knock.
The two glanced at each other before Lillian decided to get up and open it.
And what she found on the other side was just one of the staff on the train serving out drinks.
Once thanking the waitress, she returned to her seat, setting down the tray of complimentary beverages on the table.
Viesta, who had removed her legs from the table, gave Lillian a curious look as a thought flashed through her mind.
She watched as Lillian poured herself a cup of water before asking:
"Your partner is Marionette Von Roselle, right? I heard rumours that you're dating that woman."
"*Cough! Cough!*"
Lillian choked on her water once she heard that and quickly placed the cup down. Once regaining her composure, she asked with a flustered voice:
"H-huh!? F-from who?"
Lillian was aware that she had stated that she was dating Marionette a few times. But she hadn't been blatantly saying it out loud, was she? Or were their actions together already a dead giveaway?
Viesta put on her cowboy hat and pinched the edge of it with a mischievous grin, "Someone as esteemed as myself, I shall not give away my informants. So, is it true or not?"
Lillian, figuring it might've been Beatrice who told the woman, sighed before grinning broadly as well. Placing her leg over the other, she stated with a proud voice:
"You bet I am. And she's the perfect girlfriend, too. Who doesn't love a woman that is both strong and respectful of your choices?" She chuckled proudly.
Lillian then went on to brag to her girlfriend about Viesta, who keenly listened in on what the Rabbit had to say.
She had even begun polishing a silver revolver due to how long Lillian was going on for.
"Oh! And don't get me started on how cute she is! One time, I tried to leave, but she immediately clung onto me."
After a few more recollections, Lillian finally finished.
She let out a meaningful sigh as she noticed the train had entered a brightly lit cave.
Looking out the window, she stared at the metal-covered walls that supported the caves. Currently, they were going through a humongous mountain that acted as a border.
At this realisation, she couldn't help but widen her eyes as an event in the game popped into her mind.
She distinctly recalled the train coming to a stop later on due to an obstruction in the way—in most cases, being a collapsed ceiling.
Of course, due to the help of enchantments and advanced mechanical engineering, the train was capable of coming to a halt extremely fast, while keeping its passengers safe.
However, in some cases, this scenario never happened. This was because this event was completely chance-based.
"Is it just me or did you feel as though this train had come to a stop?" Viesta, looking over the metal sheen on her gun, instantly noticed the lack of movement from the train.
It was later confirmed by the speakers stuck to the upper corners of the room.
[Apologies to everyone on this particular express. But we are facing some rather unfortunate obstructions in our way. We are now contacting support, and the estimated time for them to get here would be in a few hours.]
Viesta fidgeted with the rim of her leather hat, slightly concerned.
"Oh boy... This sure do sound like trouble. We may be a little off schedule, Lillian."
Looking up, she found Lillian looking under her shirt.
The white-haired girl glared at a particular neck accessory hanging around her neck. Due to its enchantment of causing her to have the same amount of luck as a main character, she was now stuck in this mess.
She sighed.
Viesta, who was about to contact the Student Council President, watched as Lillian began to suddenly equip items out of nowhere.
She tilted her head in confusion. But then, she heard something echo inside her ears. Looking to her side and out of the window...
She found the window to be slathered in a strange liquid as a dark red tongue ran over it.
