Chapter 54: Chapter 54: The Swordsmanship at the Peak of Mortals
The Lord of the Coast!
Sig's heart skipped a beat—this was the lifelong nemesis of the Bandit King, Sig!
In the original storyline, the Lord of the Coast not only devoured Shanks' arm but also consumed Sig himself!
However, at this moment, faced with this colossal creature, Sig felt an unexpected calm in his heart.
His gaze fell on the exposed portion of the Lord of the Coast's massive body.
The Lord of the Coast was a large sea beast, estimated to be tens or even hundreds of meters in length. Its head resembled a giant crocodile, while the rest of its body, resembling a serpent, lacked limbs.
A faint smile curved Sig's lips—a calm and confident expression.
Since arriving in this world, Sig had always maintained an outward facade of composure, even though his inner self often panicked and flailed.
But this time, in the face of the Lord of the Coast, a creature capable of easily killing the original Sig, he felt surprisingly steady.
"A limb-less beast is unworthy of being my enemy!"
Li Jing's card, with its abilities as the first swordsman of the Shang Dynasty, could only fully display its power when facing a limbless lord of the coast like this one.
Sig's gaze fell on the sword strapped to the waist of a nearby bandit. In one swift motion, he drew the sword.
The weapon was styled after the traditional swords of ancient China, markedly different from the katana-like swords commonly found in this world.
In the world of One Piece, all kinds of weapons exist, from the peculiar to the fantastical. It wasn't surprising that one of Sig's bandits carried such a sword.
As the sword settled into Sig's hand, a strange glint appeared in his eyes. Giving the blade a light flick, energy coursed through to the tip, causing the triple-edged blade to let out a faint hum.
There's a saying that a weapon is the extension of one's arm.
For Sig at this moment, the sword in his hand felt like a natural extension of his will.
Just as Sig was mulling over this sensation, the massive figure of the Lord of the Coast loomed closer, casting a huge shadow that enveloped nearly half the ship's deck.
The colossal creature lunged suddenly toward Sig standing on the bow of the ship, its enormous maw wide open. Rows of serrated teeth gleamed menacingly, enough to make even the bravest shudder.
One bite from those jaws could easily devour half the bow of the ship.
As the Lord of the Coast closed in, just moments before its jaws could snap shut, Sig took a glance at the sword in his hand, his smile faint yet confident.
With a tap of his toes, Sig leaped into the air.
In that split second, he swung his sword downward, and a flash of light streaked through the air.
When Sig's figure reappeared, he was already atop the Lord of the Coast's massive head. Beneath his feet, a thin red line had appeared, stretching across the sea beast's head. In the next instant, the Lord of the Coast's body split cleanly in two.
A single strike.
The menacing Lord of the Coast, which moments ago had been radiating ferocity, now lay lifeless. Its massive body began to fall, tumbling toward the depths of the sea.
But Sig didn't stop there.
A glint of excitement flickered in his eyes as if he were a child playing with a newly acquired toy. He stood atop the Lord of the Coast's head, and with each swing of his sword, streaks of light appeared again and again.
Every strike met no resistance whatsoever. Wherever the sword passed, flesh and bone split apart effortlessly. It was so smooth, so fluid, it felt surreal.
Just before the Lord of the Coast's lifeless body could sink fully into the sea, Sig leaped again, landing back on the deck of the ship.
In his right hand, he still gripped the gleaming triple-edged sword. In his left, he held the dagger he had previously thrown into the sea, now retrieved from the beast's head.
In the next moment, the colossal remains of the Lord of the Coast crashed into the water—or rather, there weren't any "colossal remains" anymore.
The once-mighty sea beast, tens or even hundreds of meters long, had been diced into dozens of chunks in the span of moments. Its dismembered parts rained into the sea like a grotesque downpour.
The entire scene went silent.
All eyes turned to Sig, standing tall with his sword.
Sig, embodying the mantra of "A true man never looks back after a kill," faced away from the dismembered chunks of the Lord of the Coast, slowly sheathing his sword with deliberate grace—because it looked more stylish that way.
His expression remained calm and emotionless. His half-closed eyes gave him an air of detached tranquility, as if nothing significant had just occurred.
A true actor is always performing, after all.
All the bandits, refugees, and revolutionaries stared at Sig in utter shock and awe.
"We finally got to see Boss Sig in action!"
"So strong…"
Previously, Sig's use of the Inferno Unmatched Exploding Heat Wave Cannon to knock out a Celestial Dragon had felt too distant, too incomprehensible to them.
But now, by defeating a clearly dangerous foe like the Lord of the Coast with his swordsmanship, Sig had finally showcased just a fraction of his abilities to those around him!
And at that moment—
A loud thud echoed behind them on the deck.
Everyone turned to look and saw Navy recruit Morgan, who had just regained consciousness and stumbled out of the cabin. His face bore an expression as if he had seen a ghost.
At Morgan's feet lay his battle axe, which had fallen from his grip.
He had realized he was aboard a pirate ship and had been preparing to ambush Sig. But then—
"You… You said we once had an epic, unforgettable battle, and that I was a rare and formidable opponent!"
Morgan's face flushed red as he pointed a trembling finger at Sig, his voice quivering.
"Captain Carvin was absolutely right! You were mocking the Navy!"
Having just witnessed Sig slice apart the Lord of the Coast, the honest man's psyche had taken a severe blow.
Sig glanced at Morgan, his tone sincere.
"I didn't lie to you."
"To be honest, that wild and crazy battle we had helped me immensely. It's the reason my swordsmanship improved by leaps and bounds, reaching a new level of mastery."
Morgan: "…"
Ivankov and a few revolutionary army fighters who had witnessed the scene wiped the sweat from their brows.
They were recalling that utterly ridiculous showdown between Sig and Morgan back then.
Suddenly! Sig's acting skills far exceeded their imagination! It was now undeniable that he was deliberately humiliating the Navy!
"Sig is undoubtedly a dangerous man. The way he blatantly lies with his eyes wide open—it's truly masterful!"
"We, the Revolutionary Army, absolutely cannot afford to become enemies with someone like him..."
Even Ivankov's massive face was covered in a thin layer of sweat.
Compared to the other revolutionary fighters, he was far more shaken.
Amateurs look at the spectacle; experts look at the skill.
Someone like Ivankov, who had been sailing the Grand Line for years and had seen countless powerful figures, could discern from Sig's sword strikes a glimpse of his true strength.
He stood very close, seeing everything clearly.
Sig's sword sliced through the body of the Lord of the coast almost effortlessly, as if he were a butcher carving up an ox.
For the truly strong in this vast ocean, accomplishing such a feat wasn't difficult—brute force can often achieve miracles.
But what was astonishing was that Sig's sword strikes weren't particularly fast, nor was the power he used very overwhelming—probably around the level of someone with a bounty of just a few million berries.
He had completely relied on his astonishing swordsmanship to use such ordinary strength and speed to kill the Lord of the Coast!
It was pure showmanship, a blatant display of skill!
Sig must have sensed the Lord of the coast lurking beneath the waves and intentionally threw his saber to bait the creature into attacking, just so he could show off his swordsmanship in front of them!
