I Suddenly Became Rich, But I Have No Idea How to Spend the Money

Chapter 4

As I stepped inside the restaurant, I noticed that there were no other customers. A serene, almost sacred atmosphere filled the space.

“Wait… is this a private reservation?”

“Of course! After all, you saved my life, Kirishima-kun. In a bustling place, we wouldn’t be able to have a proper conversation, would we?”

That made sense. If it was reserved just for us, then it didn’t really matter whether I was in casual clothes or even work attire.

Yet, somehow, Nakamura-san’s thoughtfulness made me feel even more self-conscious.

Shaking off my nerves, I took a seat at the counter. It seemed that, even with a private reservation, Nakamura-san preferred sitting at the counter.

He exchanged a few words with the chef and instructed him to start bringing out the dishes.

Forgetting my earlier anxiety, I felt excitement and anticipation bubbling within me.

Dining at Saeki was, in a word, a dreamlike experience.

The fish melted in my mouth, the rice dissolved perfectly, and the flavors harmonized in pure bliss. The only thing that remained was an overwhelming sense of happiness.

It was a fleeting moment of pure indulgence.

I had been raised in one of Japan’s finest fishing regions, eating fresh, high-quality fish from a young age. But this sushi was on an entirely different level.

I finally understood what it meant for a dish to have “masterful craftsmanship.”

As we left the restaurant and got back into the car, Nakamura-san suddenly spoke.

“Even after treating you to sushi, I don’t consider that a sufficient repayment for saving my life. But from our conversation, I get the feeling that any more grand gestures would just make you uncomfortable.”

He said this with a wry smile.

“Well, you’re exactly right about that. I just happened to be there at the right time—it’s not like I did anything extraordinary! I can’t possibly accept anything more.”

“Even so, to me, your kindness meant everything. I have no wife, no children… If I had collapsed that day, my company and all the work tied to it would have been thrown into chaos.

So, you don’t need to hold back. That’s why I want to give you this.”

During our meal, I had learned that Nakamura-san was completely alone in the world.

He had been so absorbed in his work that marriage never crossed his mind. By the time he finally started considering it, he felt it was already too late.

Apparently, he had a long-time companion, but rather than a wife, she was more like a trusted partner.

That term suited their relationship better, according to him.

Saying this, he handed me a watch.

One look at it, and I was stunned by the brand.

“R-R-R-Ro…Ro…Rolex?!”

“Yes, this is a Rolex that I cherish dearly. I consider it my lucky watch.

When I was young, I saved up every penny I could to buy this.

From the moment I got it, my fortune started turning, and I climbed my way up to where I am today.

That’s why, as a token of gratitude for saving my life, I want you to have this lucky watch.

Oh, and don’t worry—I have plenty of other lucky pieces in my collection, so it’s really no big deal!”

“W-Wait, are you serious?! Are you really giving this to me?! This is way too valuable!”

“It’s fine, really. I have a passion for watches and own quite a few.

Besides, I had a feeling that you and I might share similar tastes. You like this watch, don’t you?

So, please, accept it.”

“…Alright. I’ll accept it.

If this watch brings me the same kind of success you achieved, then one day, I’ll treat you to sushi myself!

Thank you so much!”

Hearing that, Nakamura-san beamed with satisfaction, saying, “That’s exactly the kind of young man I expected you to be.” He then handed me the watch.

Before I knew it, the car had arrived at Ishibashi Station.

After saying my goodbyes to Nakamura-san, I stepped out, still in disbelief over what had just happened.

I had received something truly incredible tonight.

I had always thought stories about people receiving extravagant gifts sounded too good to be true.

But now, I knew firsthand that such things could actually happen.

The Rolex gleamed on my wrist as I made my way home.

Nakamura-san’s massive Rolls-Royce, resembling a train in size, gradually disappeared into the distance.

And from that night forward—

My life of extraordinary fortune had begun.
